Skeptical congresswoman challenges Obama to skeet shooting match

(CNN) - It's about time for some bipartisan...skeet shooting?

Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, joined a chorus of skeptics who questioned President Barack Obama's recent comments about his hobby of skeet shooting, a sport where participants fire shotguns to break airborne clay disks.

"If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? Why hasn't he referenced this at any point in time?" Blackburn said Monday on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront."

"I tell you what I do think," she later added. "I think he should invite me to Camp David, and I'll go skeet shooting with him and I bet I'll beat him."

Obama said in an interview published Sunday by The New Republic that he won't ignore the concerns of hunters and sportsmen as his administration pushes for tighter gun laws. To illustrate his point, he added an anecdote about his previously unknown penchant for shooting.

"Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," he said, responding to a question about whether he had ever fired a gun. He also added he has included guests on his skeet shooting outings.

Some found the comments puzzling and wondered why he hadn't mentioned his gun experience in the high-profile firearm debate over the past six weeks. The remarks especially fired up some conservative blogs and news outlets.

"We had this debate that is ongoing," Blackburn said. "You would have thought it would have been a point of reference."

When asked by Jessica Yellin, CNN's chief White House correspondent, how often the president goes skeet shooting, White House press secretary Jay Carney said earlier Monday that he doesn't know.

"He does go to Camp David with some regularity, but I'm not sure how often he's done that," Carney said during the daily press briefing.

Pressed further if there was a photograph of the president taking part in the sport, Carney said "There may be, but I haven't seen it."

"Why haven't we heard about it before?" Yellin continued.

"Because when he goes to Camp David, he goes to spend time with his family and friends and relax, not to produce photographs," Carney said.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for gun control, but somehow this image of Obama skeet-shooting makes me think of Dukakis on a tank.

Good God this is a prime example why you fool Republicans lost the election. You are petty, obnoxious, and spend more time with stupid stuff than running our country. Perhaps you should wonder a bit more about why you lost and lost every key state and by over 200 electoral votes and 2 plus million votes. DUH... It short we the Majority are sick and tired of you and the GOP...Don't count on getting many votes next time, except of course from you dumb Tea Party.

This is a favorite ploy of radical dem gun control fanatics. I remember countless dems posing at duck blinds with rifle and hunting cap, claiming how much they love hunters, as they propose yet another anti gun law. Fortunately most of the rubes are wise to this cheap ploy by now.

Now if they pose with an AR-15, at a gun range, with some NRA people, that might be beleivable. Although even in that case you can't depend on them. Remember Joe Manchin, you know the guy that won because he shot a rifle through the cap and trade bill in a campaign commercial, has even been getting squishy on gun control lately. I dont trust any of those dem snakes.

The President should know that if he talks about skeet shooting (or hunting), that's not really the main issue in the gun debate. The vast majority of people want the freedom to own guns for defense of self, home, and family. My guess is only a small percentage of U.S. gun owners hunt game or trap or skeet shoot on a regular basis.

O can't throw a baseball 60 feet. Doubt he could hit a clay sitting on the ground, much less a moving target.

Really??? I mean seriously? My guess is, Ms. Blackburn will expect to be compensated for this contest and will require a complete, physical examination at the cost of the tax payers.

Why would he talk about his leisure time activities? Besides, the conversation is about assault weapons, not skeet shooting rifles. Good grief, doesn't this crazy woman have anything better to worry about?

All you people stating that our President lies all the time had better put some proof out. To those who say that it makes you 'feel' like you're being lied to – you need to check the truthiness of your sources. You'd likely be surprised at how gullible you are when the only evidence you need that someone is a a patriotic, xtian American who never lies, is a gun in one hand and bible in the other. Those aren't facts, they're props.

What Gauge, make and model of shotgun do you use Mr. President? What choke do you use to shoot your skeet? What size of shot do you find works best? What is your best total out of 25? What is the length of pull on your shotgun. If you can not answer these questions with out hesitation, you might be a liar.

When she's ( Blackburn) was on Morning Joe the other day she answered Gov Rendall that her state of Tennessee would not be taking the " free" Medicaid $$ that would help better the healthcare of the people in her state.

In the next breath she spoke about women need to lean forward and get involved in more decision making. I guess she did not mean poor women. If poor women could have access to better healthcare maybe it would help them lean forward.

Obama a liar? Thats funny. Maybe you should watch some Bush re-runs. Remember the "patriot Act" and when we invaded a country unrelated to 911 so we could get our foot into the middle east? Republicans are delusional... and I am not a democrat.

    @Independent
    Hit home did I?
Let's be clear: pointing out blatant stupidity is NOT name calling. Calling you a worthless bottom feeding, low-information, hate-filled troglodyte devoid of the intellect of an amoeba, that'd be name calling.
Embrace your stupidity and your lack of purpose Independent, not everyone can be a positive contributing member of society.
Think: the only thing you're Independent of is being an integral part of a thriving country that clamors forward movement. And have no doubt forward we will move with or without you.
