Hagel aligns himself with Obama policies

Washington (CNN) - Former Sen. Chuck Hagel addressed concerns of his critics on Thursday in the opening statement of his confirmation hearing to become President Barack Obama's next defense secretary.

The Vietnam veteran's statement to the Senate Armed Services Committee said he fully supported Obama administration policies on ending combat operations in Afghanistan next year, preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and ending the ban on gays openly serving in the military.

Oh Senator Hagel you are definitely working on getting kicked out of the Good ole Boys club. Didn't you get the memo??? Never, ever agree with the Kenyan born, Marxist, socialist, communist, even if it were your idea in the first place. Ie, Mittens and Obama/Romney care and Mitch McConnell filibustering his own bill.

Congratulations on your new appt. Mr. Secretary!

I love it. The far right is gonna love this. Remember how they fried Santorum for saying that some of his votes were cast certain ways because he was going along with the party line, his bosses.

Old Man McCain is showing his ignorant butt again. Being in the Navy (his dad got him in) and finishing 3rd from the bottom in is Naval Class, Crashing MANY airplanes, and never accomplishing anything in life other than what Cindy's money could buy him, he is now just a bitter old loser at all he has attempted on his own. His jealousies are sophomoric and he just can't keep his mouth shut about anything - criticizing all who have achieved more on their own.

Senator John McCain is hammering former Senator Chuck Hagel about jumping into Syria because 60,000 have died....But Mr. McCain 55,000 have died across our southern border in Mexico...Just across the Arizona line...and You have not problem with that.....You keep the gun stores of Arizona running full blast supplying the illegal sun smugglers with guns to keep the Mexican Drug Cartels well armed......

Reagan's Foreign Policy of arming anyone that will fight our enemies gave use Reagan's arming of Saddam with military grade Anthrax, sarin gas, tuban gas, mustard gas, botulism, diluted Agent Orange in the form of Roundup...Yellow Cake...that now is in Iran.....Reagan supplied thousands of stinger missiles to the rebels in Afghanistan and then we spend years trying to get them all back after the war...over paying several times for most.,...and Reagan helped to make Bin Laden a hero of the Afghan war against the Soviet Union....and look where that led...the loss of 3,000 American lives on 9/11/2001...

Senator McCain wants to jump in a B2 and attack Syria...go ahead and try that...Syria has a very strong air defense system....

republicans once again show their stupid. McCain is a looney ol fart who would send us into war with everyone. Thank goodness he did not become president. The fact that Mr. Hagel does not agree with everything the republicans want is making them crazy. This is not a hearing but a hanging. They are a disgrace to the country.

We Democrats had a great deal of respect for McCain. He has slowly erroded our support. He has just be become a crusty, bitter and angry man. His questioning of Hagel this morning was disgusting. Hagel isn't being accused of a crime. These hearings are to find out where he stans on issues. Hagel went against McCain on several issues, so now he wants to destroy him. McCain, this isn't a place to settle YOUR personal scores. Time to hang it up.

Sen. McCain's problem is that he's been in the Senate so long that he has become irrelevant. Senate rules limit how long a person may serve in various committees. McCain's "eligibility" has expired and he can neither chair nor be the lead member for the minority party on any of the existing committees. He can only be a minor member.

He could if a new committee were to be created, but Sen. Harry Reid is not about to do that. McCain has no more power in Senate committees than a freshman junior senator. He knew this day was coming, which is a large part of the reason why he ran for POTUS. So they only way that McCain can remain politically relevant is through specail committees and special hearings before the Senate. He should retire. His time is literally up.
