Panetta: Not enough time to respond to Benghazi attack

(CNN) - Defense Secretary Leon Panetta testified Thursday that the Defense Department didn't have enough time to get armed military assets to Benghazi to fend off a deadly attack on a U.S. consulate in September.

The attack left four Americans dead, including Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

    Let's see how accurate is Mr. Panetta. Well when I was in the Air Force stationed in Europe all air wings had aircrews on immediate standby to launch. This was in Iceland, England, and Germany, in fact at Ramstein AB you would see the fast reaction as fighters were launched within minutes. I know the bases in Italy has similar alert forces as well. Not to count out the 6th U.S. Naval Fleet whose headquarters are in Naples, Italy. Navy who has a Mediterranean fleet which the have hot air crews for emergency reponse. In addition you have the 24th Marine Expeditionary Force in the Med and you have the Green Beret SOG unit in Bad Tolsz, Germany.

    I thnk Mr. Panetta is blowing smoke and is covering up.

    By the way thank you Mr. Panetta who wants to give our military service members a 1% pay raise. Thank you for taking care of our soldiers, sailors, and airmen. What was your raise Mr. Panetta?

    Getting a ground force on the ground would be more difficult but don't we have fl

    Shame. Shame. Shame. Time for Republicans to stop playing politics over the Benghazi killings. Hypocrtical House Republicans cut funding for State Department embassy security. They should look in the mirror for culpability.

    LOL. Wanna explain to the class what, precisely, would have been accomplished by scrambling to launch an F-14 to the Benghazi embassy? A nice fly-by during which they could do nothing for fear that any shots fired or ordinance dropped would massacre as many Americans as attackers? Yeah, that's brilliant. "Hey, let's make them all look at the sky for 3 seconds as the supersonic jet flies by and makes alot of noise...that'll stop the attack and save everyone." Oly one blowing smoke is you. If Panetta says there wasn't time to get troops into that area to respond to the attack, then he's basing it on far far more information than you're privy to, which is to say, he has access to all the information and you have zero information.

    Incompetent. For 7 hours that poor man was missing and being tortured and murdered and this group didn't have time? It was 9/11 for God's sake – why were they not on high alert? With all the technology we have? Where were the drones then? This all points back to the White House. Nixon was impeached for less.

    Riiight. Just what exactly were these "fast reaction" fighters supposed to do? Bomb the compound? You talk nonsense.

    @Fair –

    I'm going to have to go with the Joi Gibson rule of thought on this. Those who are American born and have forsaken America by plotting terrorism against America must surely forfeit their legal due process rights. Treason against American is after all nothing less than treason against America - including treason against the expectation of due process.

  9. Question?

    If a suspected terrorist is set on fire as the result of a drone attack, is it immoral to water board him to put the fire out?

    I follow some left leaning reporters on Twitter and they are raising some disturbing questions about Benghazi. Perhaps former Secretary of State Clinton might need to come back before Congress and answer a few more questions.

    If we knew the timeline better, then that would make more sense. This also requires to let the people know where the forces that could help were and how quickly they could have arrived at Benghazi once they knew that there was a problem. Maybe if there was a way to have all ambassadors wear a device to request military support and have their location known.
