Palin urges Obama to express condolences for slain ex-Navy SEAL

(CNN) – Sarah Palin said she hopes President Barack Obama "pays his respects" to the slain former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was killed at a shooting range by a fellow veteran on February 2.

In Dallas for the funeral, the former Alaska governor said she and her husband "find it sad to see that flags aren't flying at half staff for this American hero."

"We're surrounded today by American patriots here in Texas – by Chris' fellow veterans and active duty warriors," she wrote on Facebook Monday morning. "In honor of them, I hope our commander in chief pays his respects in some gesture of condolence for their comrade in arms who sacrificed so much to keep him and all of us safe."

Kyle, who was 38, served four combat tours in Iraq and received two Silver Stars, among other commendations. He left the Navy in 2009. He was most known for declaring himself the "most lethal sniper in U.S. history" with more than 150 sniper killings in Iraq, which he described as a record for any American.

"We may never know to what extent Chris kept us free or how many lives he saved by his brave actions in the line of fire. But his fellow warriors know how important he was," Palin wrote.

Shortly after his death, Palin wrote on Facebook that she had lost a friend. She explained that she and her husband, Todd, first met Kyle in Pella, Iowa, when he helped out with security for the premiere of "The Undefeated," a documentary about Palin that debuted in June 2011.

"Later we became friends with Chris when he was on 'Stars Earn Stripes' with Todd," she said, referring to the NBC reality show in which competitors took on missions based on military exercises.

"Chris was a wonderful man, a good friend, and a true American hero who loved our country and served honorably," she continued. "He was loved and admired by so many, and he will never be forgotten."

Sarah, hiding behind a rock over a mile away and pulling a trigger does not make one a hero.
Someone who crawls out into the open to rescue a fallen comrade is a hero.
Someone who jumps into a river to hep save a drowning person is a hero.
Someone who stuffs a dirty sock in your gob is a hero.

Yes, let's just grind the entire country to a halt because a former soldier was shot. I'm sorry that the man lost his life and of course, I'm grateful for his service, but really? The president of the United States has to stop what he's doing and express his condolences? Let it be a family matter, for the love of soup. Enough of Palin already.

What Palin is truly mourning is the death of her celebrity status. Obama and the rest of this country do not give any weight to her opinion. And that hurts her deeply...

Every three months she pops her head out of the snow to yell to everyone who will listen "Look at me, Look at me, I am still relevant".

Good ole Palin, never misses a chance to capitalize on a double homicide of our nation's veterans for a political gain.

If Sarah knows this guy, I guess that's enough for her to dictate flag protocol , take a "shot " at the President, and dream of relevancy.

One sure way to dishonor this soldier is to use the occasion of his funeral to make a petty dig on the president.

I thought Palin had since faded off into obscurity in the past few months after Fox News got rid of her. How is she even relevant anymore? (not that she was relevant back when she was on McCain's 2008 ticket for the presidency).

  18. The Real Tom Paine

A member of Congress gets shot, Palin is the victim. A retired SEAL dies at the hands of a man he tried to help, and Obama must issue a statement that meets with Palin's approval. The world will not rise and set on this feckless, sociopathic egotistical idiot unless we allow her to. What good does she do in the world beyond her shirinking circle of supporters? For anyone who thinks she is wonderful, what does she actually do? Cure cancer? Encourage people to read to their kids instead of using the TV and computers to babysit them? Nope, nothing, nada, zilch.

Poor Pitiful Sarah. We appreciate our veterans but this was not a line of duty death. We have veterans dying everyday and we do not lower our flag to half staff. Sarah needs attention because FOx dumped her and probably needs a high paying job. Palin is old news and needs to move on and seek mental health treatment.

Another comment from the wise one. can someone (@ BellaFDask or anyone who defends her) ask her what makes this guy any more heroic than any of the other vets who died after their service is done ? why is she not asking for the flag to be lowered for them? just because he wrote a book, was on a TV show and killed more people does not make the risk he took more important than that of all the other vets. she just wanted to stay relevant and make the evening news

to think she was that close to being a VP or even Pres is a scary thought. ps I would have voted John McCain if he did not pick her, when he picked her it showed a lack of judgment on his part and more interest in getting more woman votes just by having a woman as a VP

Youtube many years ago at the start of the IRAQi war. A number of American soldiers were hunkered down atop a building aiming their guns out ahead of them. A sniper was going off with shot after shot with his sniper rifle. The voices in the back were watching him with expressions like "Its A Turkey Shoot".

Good people die due to gun violence every day. Should we lower the flags to half-mast permanently?
