Marco Rubio's dry mouth moment

(CNN) - Sen. Marco Rubio stopped for a drink during the GOP response to the State of the Union - and the moment immediately went viral.

Even Rubio himself acknowledged the awkward break in his speech on Twitter.

Others on Twitter ribbed the Florida senator for stopping his speech to reach for the water bottle.

"In the short time I've been in Washington, nothing makes me thirstier than the president's false promises. That's why I drink Poland Spring water. It's refreshing and has natural mellowing agents..."

Seriously, this cherub is near the top of the list for a run in 2016? Was our country not embarrassed enough by Bush Jr.?

What would have been more awkward is if the water had (1) spilled down his chin or (2) went down the wrong pipe.

Look Rubio, play it cool next time like Brother Obama. Just pause and SLOWLY reach down for the water and take a sip. I'm rooting for ya.

Looked like an unconscious bodily response to delivering a speech he knows is based on a false dogma. Similar to those involuntary reactions that betray a liar taking a lie detector test. He is being used by the right in attempt to portray them as tolerant of diversity and knows it, and it revealed itself tonight.

Um, why has this become a thing? The stupidest things have a habit of trending on the internet.

Hillary 2016. Rubio was already a never was before tonight. Now...

Great speech once again by the President. Lets get immigration reform, gun reform, tax reform, etc. passed and set the table for a 2014 House and statehouse sweep. The GOP that is still gumming up the works has got to go.

The GOP offers a counter argument to the President's SOTUA and CNN decides to focus on this ??? The United States is not a single party state; we are a republic with many voices. Ridiculing one group, as in the group you oppose, is not called journalism integrity, it is called political propaganda.

Rubio's lame, but why is everyone making such a fuss about him reaching over to grab his water? Is it because it wasn't right in front of him, within easy reach? Is THAT all it takes to start an internet yapfest of this magnitude?

After watching the State of the Union, a serious and well-delivered speech, I was very pleased to see the comedy sketch afterwards offered up by the republican party. Thank you Marco.

I could care less about the water, that issue is just plain silly. What I have issue with is that there was nothing new in his speech, it could have and should have been given before the election which they LOST big time. It is the same old same old from the party that has no answers to our pressing problems. The GOP complains that Dems blame President Bush for everything, well Rubio blamed President Obama. I also wondered whether Rubio even read the president's speech as his speech had little to do with what the president said, it was just a rehash of all the usual GOP talking points. If this man has a future in politics outside, or even inside Florida, he really needs to step up his game. Someone earlier said "peak too early"? Well, certainly could be.
