Washington (CNN) - Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, says he is satisfied with answers the White House provided to his and other senators' questions about Benghazi and that he is now in negotiations to get answers about defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel's finances that other GOP senators are seeking.
"I think it was an adequate response, yes," McCain said about the Benghazi matter. "We are working on and having negotiations now trying to smooth this thing out and get it done."
Asked if the satisfactory response on Benghazi was enough for him to vote to break the filibuster McCain indicated not yet.
"We are working on trying to get a path forward to try to have the questions answered and the vote and Hagel getting his vote," McCain said, referring to questions from Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas and GOP senators about the sources of Hagel's income in the years after he left the Senate.
McCain said if the answers are provided there won't be a need for a vote to break the filibuster and he hopes the Senate can move directly to a confirmation vote on Hagel – a vote that only needs 51 votes to succeed.
"I have said all along that we have to have the concerns of senators addressed. That I'm hopeful we can get those concerned addressed and still move forward with a 51-vote vote because we have never required 60 votes of a defense secretary," McCain said.
"It looks like people like McCain tend to grab the power more than the President has."
The only power McCain has is he's a media darling. To the rest of America ... not so much.
McCain needs to retire. US Political BS is keeping the entire world from recovering on a faster track. The solution here is to ban political parties and have people run as individuals. So sad.
McCain are you republican? This stinks you know it stinks America needs to know what happen Obama should be called in to testify under oath. All documents should be released. Block this confirmation.
Lord help us. I pray none of our enemies decide now is the time. We are so busy squabbling amongst one another that we would be the perfect target. But what am I saying? I'm willing to bet my left arm that that's exactly what the GOP wants. Then they can yell, how incompetent Obama really is. I can't believe what our once great country has turned into and simply because after 100's of years we finally have a POTUS that doesn't look like the rest...... Pathetic.
this is sooooooo disgusting! McCain has lost any respect he had by the way he's conducted himself since losing in 2008......Stick a fork in him....he's done! Let's hope and pray that Hagel gets confirmed and McCain finds a rest home soo. The people of AZ deserve better!
