Obama pushes Congress to avoid forced spending cuts

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama warned Tuesday of diminished emergency services, longer airport security lines and other problems if Congress fails to reach agreement on avoiding the harshest impacts of automatic, across-the-board spending cuts set to begin March 1.

With firefighters, police officers and other emergency responders standing behind him, Obama said that "people will lose their jobs" if the forced cuts are allowed to take effect.

Republicans have been working very hard on a "sequestration was Obama's idea" narrative. They want the public to completely ignore the fact that all revenue related bills MUST originate in the House. They ignore the fact that Pres. Obama and Spkr Boehner had worked out a deal, which the Tea Party unilaterally rejected. Boehner never even bought it to the floor for a vote. They also want you to ignore the fact that in the end the House Republicans voted FOR sequestration. The Senate dared not to not pass the the sequestration bill because time had run out and the country was on the verge of default..

It will be the same thing as always, Bush did it, Republicans are horrible, the rich should be killed after he takes their money and no one, absolutely no one, has a right to have any different belief than the most incompetent, inept, corrupt, lying, union toady president in history. And then it will be off to another taxpayer funded vacation.

The house has sent bills to the senate rudy, reid has not acted on them. Sign it, give it a vote or make ammendments, doing NOTHING was not an option. The dems want no part in gaining efficiencies and effectiveness in government that would result in reduced spending. They want a fat wallet with no responsibilities so oblabla can build his "legacy".......too bad you fell for it – twice!

How many passed bills from the House does it take for the Democratic Senate to finally act on them? 5, 10 or 100. The was a bill passed in the House to cover the Defense Dept. budget, no with no addition in revenue, so that went no where. The Republicans gave the President and Democrats increase revenue on the wealthy, with PROMISE ( which is a lie) to cut spending. Well, the SEQUESTER will definitely cut spending!!! Sorry Obama plan in 2011 with sequester is a kick in the pants to the Democrats.

Nothing EVER comes from the Tea Party House that isn't filled with riders of political theater – like "personhood" bills or efforts to dismantle programs like Planned Parenthood. They voted 35 times to repeal Obamacare but never offered a single jobs bill to the Senate. The Tea Party House isn't a serious organization.

As opposed to that conservative icon Ted Nugent – the man who admits to purposefully crapping his pants for days to help him avoid the military draft. Now he's a "tactical" chicken-hawk and N.R.A. spokesperson. Typical right-winger.

I see that you need a Civics lesson, too. Never mind the fact that the most all of the bills coming out of the Tea Party House have tactical votes on bills crafted to ideologically unpalatable just so that the right wing can stand back and say, "See/" Let's overlook the fact their "budgets" included amendments ro repeal everyhting from the health care and financial reform to not using energy efficient light bulbls. Let's ignore all of that. Let me point out that Democrats can silently veto bills, too. It's not always Harry Reid.

It cannot be avoided, because Obama simply wants to keep printing money, and increasing our debt, which we cannot afford to do.

If oblabla wanted jobs he would approve keystone, if he wanted savings he would condemn amnesty and illegal immigration, if he wanted reduced crime he would direct sweeping law enforcement ops vice attacking the 2nd amendment. Reality, you should get some.

It insults the intelligence of the informed American for politicians or the media to suggest that the $$ figure associated with these cuts is crippling to the economy, military readiness, etc. Let the cuts go through and DO NOT let the GOP`ers talk tough on March 1 but weasel out of these cuts on March 14th when the continuing resolution to fund the government is resolved.

"Obama has his grubby mitts all over it too. I say GOOD... let sequestration kick in, and let the ALL fry for the consequences."

Yeah, well. House Leader John Boehner DID mug in front of the cameras all giddy because he got (and I quote) 98% of what he wanted when he signed off on the sequester.

But, hey. I have no dog in this show. Then again, neither would I cheer at the prospect of folks losing their jobs over political bickering.

CIVICS 101: The POTUS only signs the bills. All revenue related bills originate in the House. The POTUS does not have the power to determine what gets passed in either chamber. The POTUS can only veto bills, which the Congress can override. In other words, the POTUS can only sign into law the bills that come from the Congress. The POTUS does not write the bills, but he can suggest content. It is up to the repsective chambers to work out the details.

You need to quit while you're only 20 points down. The Senate cannot modify a revenue a bill that originated in the House and then send to the POTUS for signing. The only revenue bills that reach the POTUS must originate in the House, be passed by the Senate *without* any changes whatsoever, and then and only then can the revenue bill go to the POTUS for signing. That's how it works.

Republicans created the Sequester (despite their recent lies to the opposite), and it will be the swan song for their party. It will naturally hurt the recovery, and the poor and middle classes- but that is what the GOP wants. One last hurrah for the rich, and another chance to stick it to the working man. It's the GOP way. They are underestimating the anger that will naturally come their way- deservedly so. No matter, they are now little men about to commit political suicide. Go for it gentlemen. Putting up with your anti-Americanism has been very tiring.

Wow. Lots of hyperbolic blathering from the GOP apologists this morning. Don't fret guys, the end will be short and painless for the Republican Party. Sure, you guys will go down in history as traitors, fools and cowards who couldn't even come up with coherent policies in the end. You crashed the ambulance and couldn't figure a way back, so instead you became the economic Luddites of our time. Think "Know-Nothing" Party for the 21st Century. You all won't be missed.

sequestration ah yes that thing that Obama wanted to have happen. The Idea he came up with. The thing he has made to happen. What the hell could anyone care about what lies he now wants to tell. Or who he wants to blame for what he did?

rs and Rudy....Sequester DID come out of the White House and was an effort to entrap the Republicans into a bad decision. Both parties voted for it in a "kick the can" effort. Obama at first was happy with the decision as a political ploy until it became apparent that it might actually go into effect. Now he's panicky about his legacy.

They have such a mess in their own party right now they don't care about the public. Well come mid term we won't care about you either. Disgusting bunch of trolls.
