Tiger Woods on golf with Obama: 'We won'

(CNN) - It's an invitation one doesn't turn down, as Tiger Woods said: the offer to hit the links with the president.

The golf star said Tuesday that when he and President Barack Obama played on Sunday, they were on the same team.

"He was my partner," Woods told reporters, adding, "we won."

Obama spent the weekend at The Floridian, a coastal resort owned by Democratic donor Jim Crane who also played with the president. Rounding out the foursome on Sunday was U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.

"He calls up and says, hey Tiger, you wanna play?" Woods recounted, laughing. "No, it's a obviously - there is a process that's involved and I was invited to play. And it was an invitation that certainly you don't turn down and especially being - he's an avid golfer, and so am I so we went out there."

When Obama returned to the White House from his weekend on Monday, he smiled and declined to answer reporters' question about the game. The White House blocked reporters from viewing the president's golf party for the most part, but CNN was able to view Obama playing a portion of two holes on Monday.

On Saturday, Obama may have picked up a few tips for his own game. He played with Wood's former coach, Butch Harmon.

Obama and Woods previously met in 2009 at the White House when the golf star was in town for a charity event.

In response to Padraig. You might want to keep in mind that this was a Saturday and Sunday. Do you take 54 "vacations" a year? Or do you just consider them weekends like everyone else? Monday was a holiday, and if the acting president can't take PRESIDENT'S day off, I don't know who can. The man was back to work today (plus I'm sure he did a few work-related things on Saturday-Monday anyway). Meanwhile, Congress has taken the entire freaking week off. Now THAT'S a vacation. I would argue it's congress, not the president, that deserves some criticism for vacation time. President Obama is about the hardest worker in Washington I think.

First: at least the President is not ......"at an undisclosed location"

Second: All of Legislative and the Executive branch should be in Washington DC 'getting things done', period.

Slow news time. Obama and Tiger. Big deal. They are basking in each others star light for a while. Give it a rest.

Just shy of a million dollars for this little get away. While we as a nation are 16 trillion in the hole. I can't imagine going on a trip to Hawaii while my credit ratting was falling, I was going further into debt and no sign of things improving. I'd have no problem with him taking all kinds of vacations if the nation was running a surplus. These people are so far out of touch with reality. Where is the shame? He doesn't represent the common person nor does he care about ANY of the people in this nation. Sacrifice is a symptom of caring. What are any of our elected officials sacrificing?

Where is the outcry from liberal feminist. Tiger woods is a womanizer adulterer with a history of sleezing around with women from the porn industry. An industry that objectifies and abuses women. The president sees nothing wrong with palling around with someone so disgusting? Why aren't women outraged by this? Are liberal women only offended by conservative men? Liberal men get a pass for bad behavior?

Most Americans can't afford a single vacation much less separate luxury vacations.

So, according to some posters, the country suffered and Mr. Obama was being negligent by playing a round of golf? Get serious. The man works 100+ hours per week and makes decisions that affect countless lives, not just in the US, but around the world. Give the him a break!
However, I'm just dying to know what he shot- there's probably a bit of an intimidation factor playing with Tiger Woods.

I am disappointed in Obama for spending any time at all with Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods isn't fit to wipe the President's boots.

Some dodo at Fox termed President Obama a duffer for playing golf with Tiger Woods. What should anyone call "W", head of the "know Nothings", wood chopper, last place prez, or some as dumb as what dodo term our president. The right is losing ground fast and they don't care. Every empire tried to survive on greed and all of them failed. Is our country going the same way? As a "nobody" I dare bark at all the sheep!

It is true that no President is ever truly on vacation, but this guy takes the cake. I hope that our next President has a bit more respect for the Office of President and can somehow unite our country. I know times have changed, but there was a time when someone that wanted to be respected would shy away from a known philanderer and employer of prostitutes rather than invite them to hang out and play golf. Who you choose to pal around with states quite a bit about your own character.

Golf is a dead beat game. Perfect for old, overweight and lame people. The growth of golf in the 80's 90's and up to 2000 coincided with the explosion of overweight people in the US and the demise in the number of participant true sports- racquet sports and running. Ok, so golf is good socialization for senior citizens, but all you car dealer, overweight bizz people, get a life!

That's right! The President should not be allowed to have free time on the weekends! Does he think this is Europe? If I was President, my extra hours would mean the country was far better managed, because everyone would get along and agree on what was right for the country. It's pretty easy at my work. I just keep people in the office late until they all see my view and agree with me. Then we can all go home.

Stick to the article. I bet it was kind of a weird vibe with Butch there. Last time I checked, Woods wasn't very friendly with him. Still, great article. Wish there was video of the whole round.

You seem to be forgetting Padraig about how he cut his holiday vacation short in order to complete the fiscal cliff negotiations and get a deal done before New Years.

    And that's what happened.

Just another quality individual that our president associates with. Here we have a guy who cheated on his wife and family with 12 known women but probably more like 50, Our president finds time for a cheating husbnd but not to help the little guy he frequently uses to get re-elected etc.

Obama's vacations every other month are understandable. Non-stop campaigning takes a heavy toll on a person. Besides, it's been a while since his last contact with celebrites. He must be going through withdrawal after the election ended. But what is even more gauling is that Michelle and the kids went on vacation to a different location, doubling the cost to the taxpayers. THAT vacation should come out of Obama's paycheck.

Tiger and Obama both win but the taxpayers lose again, stuck with the tab for another extravagant vacation.
