Lack of access to Hagel archives another flashpoint

Washington (CNN) - Official documents, correspondence and other papers from the period of time Chuck Hagel held his U.S. Senate seat are closed to public viewing by the archives entrusted to hold them.

The lack of access has created yet another controversy around the embattled nominee to become the next defense secretary, raising questions among some about whether he might be hiding something in those files.

Do we have McCain record from Vietnam? No it is sealed to date but he was running for president. Hagel is an American Hero he doesn't have to prove his loyalty for this country he already done that.

Take a good look at the faces of those who oppose Mr. Hagel. No women in that group. We do see Sen. Cruz who has made unproven accusations about Senator Hagel in an action reminiscent of Sen. McCarthy. How man of his colleagues have called him on that. Most of these men consider Mr. Hagel too liberal to hold this office. They do not want to vote because that action will be part of a record that an opposing candidate might use in the next election.

Not one of these people really knows what Senator Hagel would do in the job. They do not seem to realize that he will be working with the highest ranking officers of the American military. He does not make policy he carries it out. He has the best military minds at his beck and call yet they are allowing their prejudices to rule the day. How many of these men served in the military (the exception being Sen. McCain). Are the only people capable of being Secretary of Defense those who are the most conservative? The end result could be some very angry Americans who do not appreciate the way this group has acted throughout this process.

Why does this matter? Are they asking what he would do as Secretary of Defense? There has been so little focus on that in the hearings (or what has been reported about the hearings).

Any reason is a good reason for Republicans to hold America hostage. They want America to fail.

I would expect better from the "most transparent president in US history". More like most untransparent liar in US history.
