First on CNN: RNC wants Democrats to 'admit' spending problem

(CNN) - As the GOP controlled House gets ready to vote on a measure that will continue funding the government, the Republican National Committee is releasing a new web video that claims Democrats are blind to the country's "spending problem."

The 50-second web video highlights footage of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa and Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana all making a point that flies in the face of a Republican rallying-cry.

URGENT – DC Weather Closures

– (CNN) - Federal offices in WashingtonD.C. will be closed Wednesday due to weather, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management said.

NATIONAL STORIES:

CNN: Snow storm that plastered Chicago reaches DC

A storm that set snowfall records in Chicago arrived in Washington, D.C. early Wednesday. It has triggered over 1,000 flight cancellations to and from airports in its path. Just west of the nation's capital, it could dump up to 20 inches of snow but may turn into a mix of rain and snow as it nears the Atlantic Ocean, the National Weather Service said. The federal government has closed offices for Wednesday. Emergency personnel will be expected to work as well as those equipped to work from home. D.C. schools will also be closed.

CNN picks up Cronkite award for Tom Foreman's 'Reality Checks'

(CNN) – CNN's Tom Foreman and his team kept politicians honest last year with "Reality Checks," a new 3-D, visual way of getting to the root of some of the complex, carefully-crafted statements made on the campaign trail.

Because of Foreman's innovative use of graphics and technology to put the news into context, CNN was awarded the Cronkite/Jackson Prize for Fact Checking Political Messages, the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism announced Wednesday.
