Scott Romney 'interested' in 2014 run for Senate

Washington (CNN) – Scott Romney, the elder brother of former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, is considering running for the Senate seat that will be vacated by retiring Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan next year.

"He's interested and seriously looking at it," a friend of the Romney family told CNN Political Director Mark Preston on Friday. The Romneys' father, the late George Romney, was governor of the state in the 1960s.

Levin, a Democrat, announced Thursday he will not seek re-election to a seventh term, clearing the way for an open Senate contest in the Wolverine State.

Romney has not held political office. He announced the Michigan delegation at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, where his brother was nominated for president.

A partner at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, Romney has also served as a trustee at Michigan State University and Michigan State University College of Law.

Romney, however, may have competition with another high-profile Republican in the state: Saul Anuzis, a former Republican National Committeeman and former chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.

"I've been encouraged by a lot of friend to seriously consider the race," Anuzis told CNN National Political Correspondent Jim Acosta.

The Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call first reported the story.

Another Romney who has done nothing for the people of Michigan. The whole family tries to ride on the late governor's coat tails. Run, Scott, Run and the people of Michigan will reject you the same as they did MItt. Of course, Saul Anuzis is no better. Has not changed much since he was in college.

Was George Romney the real "daddy" of Willard and Scott? They certainly don't look alike. Scott Romney might as well forget any political ambitions he has, as the Romney name carries a stink just as the Bush name does. Willard will forever be remembered as a lying unAmerican tax cheat and thus goes ANY chance his half-brother might have.

First Jeb Bush is considering running for president in 2016, now Scott Romney wants to run for the senate in 2014. Neither of them has a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected, due to the fact that both the Bush and Romney names are equally tainted.

"I've been encouraged by a lot of friend to seriously consider the race,"
Was it one friend who "mostly" thought it was a good idea? Or was it several friends?

Political aspirations are the provenance of the wealthy families in America. Both Democratic Party socialists, and Republicans.

We have a long list of those families, in our history.

  16. Really.

Why not. The Kenedy and Bush dynasties had their time in D.C.
