Hiring picks up, unemployment falls

New York (CNNMoney) – U.S. employers ramped up their hiring in February, helping to lower the unemployment rate slightly.

The U.S. economy added 236,000 jobs in February, according to a Labor Department report released Friday. That's much stronger growth than in January, when employers hired a revised 119,000 workers.

Great, This is a step in the right direction, now if we can just get over-spending under control and start reducing our debt.

Good news and very encouraging. Pres. Obama deserves a big credit. With all the obstructions still he continues to work hard. Just imagine if he could had another supporting hand (from the opposition side), things could be flourishing by now.

  5. Republican who supports President Obama

@ST – you are 100% correct. The right-wingers have tried all they can to stop progress for the sake of their own agenda. They can only cover up so much. Very happy to see this indicator that things are getting better.

I wonder what things would look like if everyone came together to work on fixing issues in good faith and forgo obstructionism.

Keep up the great work every who is willing to help move this country forward.

0.2%! Spike the ball! These numbers are for February, before the Great Barack Obama Sequester of 2013. Can't wait to see the March numbers. I'm sure those 150 million jobs lost will put a damper on the liberals little party.

Oh course the situation is better. THE ELECTION IS OVER. All that was going on was that a lot of employers were holding off hiring because THEY ARE REPUBLICANS. They wanted Obama to fail. Thank heaven he won and now maybe our country can recoop. If only the Republicans would cooperate with our president we could do much better.

Hey Republicans, employment is breaking out. Hurry, shut down the government. Force a default. Do SOMETHING to destroy the economy. Economic growth in unacceptable in obstructionist America.

After over 4 years we are still close to 8% unemployment, and that rate is low because so many have dropped out of the labor force because they cannot find a job. Millions fewer people are now working in America with the lowest labor participation rate in decades. It is pathetic people get on this board and pretend the country is recovering and Obama is doing a great job. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just ask all the college graduates that can't find jobs.

I have learned not to get excited one way or the other about the current monthly figures because they are almost always revised down in the following months, when people aren't paying attention to them anymore. You need to look at the long term and the trends. The truth is we are stalled at a high unemployment rate, just like a lot of European socialist countries. This is no coincidence.

  15. Only little girls like Tea Parties

The orange Weeper of the House and Sen. Minority "Leader" Yertle the Turtle should be in front of all the cameras today joining in on this bit of good news.... or will they be off reminding everyone that they got 98% of what they wanted for the sequester or even better: self-filibustering.
Great job by the POTUS in spite of GOTP obstruction.

If you want to blame congress when things are bad, you also have to blame THEM when things are good. If the president isnt responsible when the unemployment rises or when anything bad happens that libs blame on obstructionist rebuplicans then he isnt responsible for these good numbers and if you think he is let me here the bill that he proposed and got bipartisan support over it and is now implemented to make this drop in unemployment his doing. This could just be the way the economy works even if we had a monkey in the office it would probably still do what its doing. With all the gridlock in washington neither dems nor repubs should be given credit for anything good happening because they in fact arent doing anything but blaming the other side when something bad happens and asking for praise when something small happens like a 2 percent drop in unemployment. Be interesting to see what happens after sequestration.

The numbers would be better if had elected Romney for president. Obama and party are the only problem is country has. Face the facts Obama has a failed presidency because he put into bankruptcy.

Now we need to dismantle Social Security and Medicare the real cause of our national debt.

  23. Wake up People!

This is great news but like so many of you have already stated, just think how far we could be if the GOP and their wealthy friends had not blocked everything the POTUS tried to do for 4 years.

Now I'm simply waiting for the RWNJ's to chime in with their usual BS. How anyone that isn't extremely wealthy can support these traitors is completely beyond my comprehension.

Wake up People- If the GOP had not reined in a lot of Obama's spending we would now owe $20 trillion...giveaways to his unions and special interests.
