Michelle Obama's second 'Vogue' cover

(CNN) – Michelle Obama appears on the cover of April's edition of Vogue, the second time the first lady's photo has graced the front of the fashion bible.

Vogue has, for the past decade, run its "Shape issue" in April, focusing on what they describe as "the beauty and well-being of women's bodies." Past covers have featured Brooke Shields, Scarlett Johansson and Gisele Bundchen.

Michelle Obama last appeared on Vogue's cover in March 2009, wearing a pink dress designed by Jason Wu, who had two months earlier dressed the first lady for that year's inauguration balls. She also wore a Jason Wu gown to this year's inaugural balls. The photograph was by famed portraitist Annie Leibovitz.

She first made an appearance in the magazine in 2005, when her husband was a U.S. senator from Illinois. A profile of her appeared in the September 2006 issue with an accompanying portrait by Leibovitz.

The past two first ladies have both appeared in the magazine – Hillary Clinton was pictured on the cover, and Laura Bush was profiled along side a Leibovitz photo.

The editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, was a major fundraiser for Obama during last year's presidential campaign.

- CNN's Alina Cho and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

I shudder to think of all the vile comments Fox-Lite will allow to be posted about our First Lady.

    Congratulations Mrs. Obama!

Cute picture. Conservatives are sure to complain about first ladies of Republicans not making the cover of Vogue. Well, I think Laura Bush did make it. Who else is "Vogue material"? Barbara Bush? Nancy Reagan? Betty Ford? Pat Nixon? Mamie Eisenhower? Most were simply too old during their years as first lady to fit the image of vitality that Vogue seems to want to convey. To be fair, Eleanor Roosevelt was not my idea of "Vogue material", either.

Is it inappropriate to say the First Lady is smokin -:) She looks really good in bold, vibrant colors; and those bangs have grown on me. Keep up the good work Mrs. Obama – you do us proud!!!!

More celeb orchestration. The Obamas want to be complete and total celebrities, more than leaders of the country.

Michelle is in superior shape and is such a beautiful and graceful woman and First Lady like no other.

The President is a very lucky man and America is very proud to have Michelle as our First Lady in the White House for two terms.

    Go Michelle!

So what??? CNN has been trying to get a reaction on this for two days now. Are you deliberately trying to bait the teapartiers into insulting the first lady?

If the First Lady is such a shining example of successful females in so many areas, why not present her to represent womanhood?
It's not like she uses her vast power to get her pic on a magazine cover. lol

It's not like the First Lady of the USA isn't bigger than a mere magazine?

Those are deluded enough to think that this 'Vogue Cover' is for Michelle Obama, and not for the magazine, its 'bottom line', and for women in general, they certainly do not think much, if at all.

We don't have leaders we have celebrities. The obamas are more arrogant than Kardashians!

right... because we live in a black and white world right? people who likes her must be democrat and people who don't must be republican.

ever thought there are people in the grey area, of many probably think this is the stupidest news amid the real issues in America and how a 1st lady should present herself?

She's the wife of an elected official, she's should stop acting like a Kardashian.

Some of you right wing critics need to realize that Ann Romney could have made the cover if her husband hadn't blown it for her. So, don't blame Michelle for her husband's success, and Ann's husband's failure. As Herman Cain said, " .... It's your own fault." Practice what you preach about taking responsiblity. For round 2 of practicing what you preach, accept the will of the American people, who have spoken at the polls.

So, they can have an article about Romney eating fluffernutter cupcakes on his birthday and that's fine, but an article about the first lady inspiring people is not?...Rrrrrrrright.

I pay attention and KNOW why the rest of the world is laughing at us and it has nothing to do with the First Lady or her husband, and everything to do with the intransigence and downright hatred on display by the reichwing over the last 4.5 years with their voting against their own bills, spending inordinant amounts of time pushing through laws desinged to punish women and attempting to repeal laws the USSC has decreed Constitutional that's to be expected.

And before you even think of spouting that tripe about the voters electing rethugs to congress in order to do what said voters wanted them to do, remember; Dem Congressional candidates got over one million more votes than the rethugs who are ONLY in those seats now thanks to gerrymandering.

It is truly amazing what we celebrate in this country. I agree with other posts in that the potus is more concerned with celebrity status than doing a job. "Hey Time", please take a picture of my beautiful wife. Please..

When did Michele Obama become President? What year is it? Did I fall asleep and wake up in the future?

I wonder how much it cost for security and the wardrobe on the backs of taxpayers? The inquiring minds of the laid off boarder agents want to know.
