(CNN) – Former Rep. Allen West, who lost his seat in November, compared the end of President Obama's term in January 2017 to perilous points in history that Americans had to endure and overcome.
"When British tyranny besieged our colonies, we survived. When flames danced from the White House windows in 1812, we endured. When the union split itself into two almost perishing from this earth, we rebuilt," he said Thursday at the Conservative Political Action Conference outside of Washington.
"When the soup lines of the Depression stretched down shuttered city blocks, we recovered. When an unstoppable Nazi regime and war machine threatened to extinguish the light of free nations, we triumphed," he continued. "And, ladies and gentlemen, when Barack Obama packs his bags and beats a hasty retreat back to Chicago, we will persevere."
Elected in 2010, the one-term former congressman has been known for his fiery rhetoric and sharp criticism of the Obama administration. His speech Thursday was laced with advocacy for conservative principles and scorching rebuke for liberal policies. Compassion, he argued, stems from values on the right, not the left.
"California's falling victim to the same snake oil that President Obama sold America during this past election. We were told compassion comes not from generosity, but from compliance," he said. "We're told kindness means raiding a man's hard earned wages and sending it off to Washington, DC, so that they - not you - may dole it out in courtesies and indulgences."
Allen West LOST. He is not in government now. Who care about his stupid opinions?
What really scares me about this guy is that he was a relatively high officer in the USAF. I hope there aren't too many more like him.
