NRA's LaPierre slams Obama administration over gun proposals

Washington (CNN) – Proposed universal background checks of firearms purchases won't stop gun violence, but would serve agendas of people "bent on destroying the Second Amendment," a top National Rifle Association official told a conservative political conference on Friday.

Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the influential NRA, received repeated cheers and prolonged applause at the Conservative Political Action Conference when he took on proposals to toughen gun laws in the aftermath of the Connecticut school massacre that killed 20 first graders last December.

    LaPierre's paranoid ravings are the best argument FOR gun control anyone could make. This guy needs to take his meds.

    To the NRA supporters: how does sponsoring a NASCAR event help make the case for the organization? Its like preaching to the choir.

    If anything, this guy should be outraged about all the people that have criminal records, due to nothing more than possessing small amounts of marijuana.
    There are millions of people that could pass background checks and have better lives, if the government would get out of the marijuana business.

    Hey,Wayne. It's ttime for you to show everyone pictures of what an AR15 or similar assault rifle will do to human flesh. Joe Public has no clue that some of teh Sandy Hook children were dismembered from the bullets. But Wayne is a pu$4y and won't do it. He hasn't figured out that his comments compromise the 2nd Amendment arguments. I'd love to meet him in person. . .and see how tough he is.

    The 2nd Admendment says nothing about the type of "arms" the "well-regulated militia" might own. Our country needs to operate with common sense rather than the radical ideology of fear-based lobbies – like the N.R.A. If I can build a weapon of mass destruction should that be legal? How about a nuke? Common sense is always better than fear-mongering. The irrational behavior of the N.R.A. is putting all of our "arms" at risk because gun enthusiasts are portrayed as seditious, anti-America extremists.

    The only thing Wayne is worried about is that background checks may slow gun manufacturing down in which he may not get much donations. Wayne is a work of art. I cant wait until the Dems take back the house in 2014 and see regulations on those high capacity magazines go bye, bye. Keep the AR15 but ban 10 plus round clips, so you guns lovers wont cry. about 2nd amendment being taken away.

    The more paranoia this guy spreads, the more money to be made from gun and ammo sales. The gun makers love the short term profits but are playing a dangerous game by allowing the dialog to even reach this level. And I have no problem with the 2nd Amendment, but I have a problem with people who can not reach common sense solutions. I have a problem with people like LaPierre who can not acknowledge the proverbial elephant in the room!

    You are a classice example of the sheep that believe everything you hear from your conservative 'friends'. Your statement does not make sense and this issue has nothing to do with Obama (but I know thats a trigger word for you to salivate) – your thought process needs a lot of work. The NRA has the interests of gun manufacturers at heart and herds its members to make a point that does not benefit them

    Article number 2 from CNN about LaPierre's CPAC demagoguery in which they have sanitized the quotes and selectively removed the portion where he rants like a lunatic about wild imaginings and paranoid delusions of newspapers publishing lists of gun owners to shame them and give all the criminals and ne'r-do-wells their home addresses, Chinese hackers trying to get all the registry information so they can confiscate everyone's guns when they finally invade and take over the US and the US gov't handing over all the registry information to Mexico just because Mexico asked for it nicely. It's all an effort to bolster LaPierre's credibility by hiding just how unhinged and absurd the doomsday p-rn and revolution fantasies he is selling really are.

    Guns themselves are taking away our freedom as we know it. Really, think about it. Specially you neo-con gun lovers. We are a gun society and demons like LaPierre want every shopping mall, corner store, and school to have guns, and that fear put among us for everyone to have a gun is freedom lost. Somebody should shoot La Pierre. Yes, I said it!!

    ===========================
    Ahh... so "sport utility rifles" is the new sound-bite for what people call "assault weapons". I'd make the law more clear: "Ban the importation or manufacturing of all weapons of any loading mechanism that have a capacity of more than ten rounds and are not loaded by placing individual cartridges in an integral and fixed tube, magazine, breech or other loading device. All current weapons failing to meet this criteria can be sold between individuals if the transfer is processed through a FFL dealer". Does that satisfy your need for clarity? And yes... I'm aware of (and own) the traditional rifles, pistols, and shotguns this would include. When you make your whole argument about semantics you relinguish the right to participate in a logical debate.

    can someone tell why I should not be able to own a AR-15 if I want to use it for target shooting which I enjoy doing. I have no criminal record, never been arrested, not even a traffic violation in the last 15 years.

    If you really want to use the logic of the gun control crowd, you should make driving and alcohol have background checks. I can get in a car drunk and drive through a crowd of people just as easily as grabbing AR-15 and running in and shooting them, it actually might be easier.

    As for Sandy Hook, that was a horrible tragedy, but no one points out that if the mother had the gun stored properly, he would not had access to them. People need to understand, that if a criminal wants to get a weapon of any kind, he/she will and banning them from law abiding citizens will not stop them.
