(CNN) – Real estate titan Donald Trump was all over the map Friday in his speech to conservatives, criticizing a range of Republicans from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to former GOP nominee Mitt Romney–and arguing that the country "is in a total mess."
The billionaire also cooked up a plate of his own solutions for fixing the economy while speaking to the audience at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Among his advice: Immigration reform could be a "suicide mission" for Republicans and taking oil from Iraq could help reboot the country's economy.
As the conference this year serves as a hub for Republican soul-searching, Trump had his own two cents worth of advice. Without mentioning his name, Trump took aim at Jindal, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, for saying at the Republican National Committee winter meeting that the GOP is acting like "the stupid party."
"When I heard that statement, I said what a horrible statement to make," Trump said. "What a horrible statement, because that's the statement that's going to come back and haunt you when the Democrats start using it."
The media mogul also took a swipe at Romney, saying the GOP nominee and former private equity CEO should have talked more about his success during the campaign.
"People really want success. They want a leader who is successful and Mitt has done a great job and I just feel that the Republicans and Mitt–and I told him this–didn't speak enough about the things he did," he said. "The great things. They were on the defensive instead of taking that offensive."
Trump, known for his fiery opinions, further lamented the Obama administration, blasting the country's immigration system, lack of manufacturing and fiscal problems.
"The fact is we're run by either very foolish or very stupid people. What's going on in this country is unbelievable," he said. "Our country is a total mess. A total and complete mess and what we need is leadership."
One of his ideas to boost the economy included a suggestion to take Iraq's oil and "pay ourselves back" for the war.
"What the hell are we thinking? For those soldiers that were killed, I said we should pay those families money," he continued. "They lost their sons and their daughters and a million dollars to a family is nothing compared to the kind of wealth that you are talking about over there."
Trump added that the leader of Iraq-"we don't even know who the hell it is"-is likely building palaces and a kingdom of wealth now that the U.S. has left, while the American people got "nothing out of it," referring to the war.
He also addressed recent calls from Republicans to create a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in the U.S.
Trump said if Republicans support such a plan, they'll be adding millions of vote into the Democratic column.
"You can be out front, you can be the spearhead, you can do whatever you want to do, but every one of those 11 million people will be voting Democratic. It's just the way it works and you have to be very, very careful because you could say that to a certain extent, the odds aren't looking so great right now for Republicans, that you're on a suicide mission. You're just not going to get those votes."
Iraq should pay us back.... for what??? We invaded THEM!!
I love the Donald, always good for stand-up comedy laughs!
Oh!... We wouldn't want Chris Christie to speak at this meeting, we only want serious GOP leaders. The Stupid Party is as the Stupid Party does.
Trump is only for Trump and money. Why blame the guy for doing what he does best...YOU ARE FIRED!
There he is again, Mr Arrogant Dunce. Because paying oil money to the families who lost loved ones because of a lie is going to help? And when he questions "who's the leader in Iraq", he should direct that to George W Bush and Dick Cheney, the two clowns who orchestrated that fiasco. Yeah, let's invade a country, topple the leadership without having a contingency AND keep a spare amount of troops to keep the peace. What an idiot.
Lets try to eradicate the plague called..'Republiklanitis'...It requires a mass herding and then having Cruz leading the entire party over a cliff somewhere in Idaho..or just into the desert in Arizona.. Once they are eradicated America can breathe a sigh of relief and then get to being a Nation of thinkers and doers as opposed to fighting off this disease called GOP.
I do like the idea of Iraq paying something to cover the expense of what it cost to have our armed forces be there along with the cost of equipment and travel expenses.
Someone should tell Trump that people can't vote unless they are citizens so those eleven million illegal immigrants he is referring to CAN"T vote for anyone.let alone the Democrats until they become legal AND a citizen . Think that may take a looonnng time.
I'm certainly no fan of his, but Trump made some good points.
As a lifelong Democrat I say, "Preach Don Preach !" Nothing could be better for the Democratic Party than The Donald running at the mouth
Of course he is a tower for the CPAC....he's a billionaire!
Ya! Let's make Iraq pay reparations like we did to Germany after WWI !!! Because a war torn Germany played no part in Hitler's rise to power right??... Seriously...?
Did anyone take his blood alcohol level before he talked?
Thank GOD this man did not run for and win the presidency.
Jeez O Pete, where does one begin with this guy? I'm waiting for the bipolar diagnosis.
Trump needs some ratings for his New Apprentice Season. Its free advertisement.
The CPAC is the gift that just keeps giving. The comedians will have a field day. There is just endless material to work with. Bring back the Jerry Springer show.
Trump has diarrhea of the mouth......the kind GOP enjoys!! Let them have their fun th e world is watching the CPAC speaker choices
You have GOT to be kidding me. The whole reason the Iraq war was unpopular is because so many people thought we lied to go to war with Iraq so we COULD steal the oil, and now he wants to go and turn it into a self fulfilling prophecy? Man this guy is an idiot, how did he make so much money when he lacks basic intelligence?
I can't believe any body even listen to this IDIOT.
Republicans, I have 5 words 4 you. ....You reap what you sew! ...(or Trump)!!!
Too funny that Trump goes on about what we should do in Iraq – when it was GW Bush & Co who started that debacle.
BTW, if the GOP's policies are so great, then why was it after 8 years of Bush – and decades of Reaganomics – that our economy was in the toilet, every year except when we had a Democrat as President?
@S.B. Stein E.B. NJ; "I do like the idea of Iraq paying something to cover the expense of what it cost to have our armed forces be there along with the cost of equipment and travel expenses."
If we're going to start compensating families for their loved ones killed in the Iraq war, we need a fund to compensate all the IRAQIS that were killed, too.
Can't wait until Trump endorses someone next election, only to have them lose 100% of the hispanic vote because of this stupid statement of his!
This man is so wise and intelligent. I think the GOP should nominate him right now to get a jumpstart on the campaign.
i want to see the certificate certifying d/t's hair from the hair club for men....a republican president invaded a soverign nation based on false inteligence.....who the hell is d/t anyway....like the gov said....the very stupid party
