Boehner on Obama quip: 'So much for the charm offensive'

(CNN) – President Barack Obama may be joking about enjoying his break from congressional gridlock, but House Speaker John Boehner says it's just a sign of mutual endearment.

"I'd rather be heckled than ignored. Or as I like to say, you only tease the ones you love," Boehner told CNN's Jake Tapper in an interview set to air Wednesday at 4 p.m. on "The Lead."

Earlier in the day, Obama quipped that "It's good to get away from Congress" as he deplaned in Tel Aviv, the first stop on his Mideast trip. The joke elicited a big laugh from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was greeting Obama at the airport.

"So much for the charm offensive," Boehner joked Wednesday, referring to the recent outreach from Obama to members of Congress as they continue to haggle over spending cuts and taxes.

Boehner said the comment wouldn't have any real impact on the relationship between lawmakers and the president.

"The president's meeting with the president of Israel. He's got his legislative issues, the president's got his. Comes with the territory," Boehner said.

I think the President was laughing at the irony of going from the frying pan and into the fire.

Boehner's got no complaints. Besides, Congress is composed of BOTH parties, and his party still has the idiot birthers and the racists TEA Party who still call the duly elected President of the United States: Muslim,Communist, Socialist, Islamo-Facsist, "Dear Leader", and more.
    Go get a drink Boehner.

That is actually one of the sanes things I've heard the Drunkard of the House utter.
He could've gone totally stage right on this one and fanned the cray-crays into all out nut-frenzy, but he chose to joke instead. Thanks Boo-Hoo.
However Netties' Congress has nothing over the should-be-in-an-asylum nutjobs that THIS President has had to contend with.
Speaking of which, let's ask Crazy Eyes Bachmann what she thinks....

I congratulate Boehner on not getting so bent out of shape over a simple joke, like right-wingers posting today about it are.

You'd rather be in a bar or on the golf course getting wasted. The President can't help that Congress rubs him the wrong way.

Obama has spent far more time golfing, vacationing, attending celebrity events, campaign fund raising than he EVER spent with meeting members from Congress. He just deosn't know how to deal with people. His leftist community organizing skills of confrontation is all he knows. Maybe he should stay in Israel and do everybody a favor?

When it comes to Republican members, you're probably right. None of them wants to be caught on camera entering or leaving the White House. Boehner has been known not to return phone calls, which is an inexcusable breach of protocol.

The President has never vacationed as much as Bush. Did you complain then or is goofing-off okay for a white guy?

We should all note that Boehner, and the rest of the GOP haven't a clue about charm, so maybe they shouldn't comment on the subject.

There is no phone in the Presidential golf cart, which is where Obama spends a vast majority of his time.

The president without Congress = progress. As far as the "charm offensive" goes, he's the POTUS not a 16 year old girl trying to get into her parents good graces and go to the prom. Why not try giving this president some respect CNN by using words such as more aggressive in his outreach to republicans? You might get more credibility.

Your motto seems to be IOKIYAR. I know your not talking about vacation time when that shrub spent more time on the ranch & Camp David than he did in the Oval Office. Please get your FACTS together.

Too funny.... uneducated libtards don't know the difference between working from home and golf games, vacationing in Hawaii/Florida/Colorado, celebrity events and campaign fund raisers. Not surprising though, since most have never worked a day in their lives and don't know what it is.

Shouldn't be a problem for Boehner. He can attach little notes to his golf balls and send 'em on up to the President one ball at a time.

Boner needs to get over himself he's not all that and a bag of chips. Still very ashamed he's from Ohio where everyone is basicly willing to have give and take he should be replaced with Mike Turner at least he is one GOP who is willing to listen to his constituants.
