CNN query prompts O'Reilly to censure Bachmann

(CNN) - CNN's attempt to question Rep. Michele Bachmann about her claims that President Barack Obama is enjoying an over-the-top lifestyle were used by a fellow conservative Wednesday to sharply criticize the Minnesota Republican.

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly - a vocal conservative - said Bachmann had made a "trivial mistake" in harping upon the so-called "perks" of the presidency, including a refuted claim that Obama employs a dog walker. Bachmann made the claims during her speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference last week.

When CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash attempted to ask Bachmann about those claims, the lawmaker argued the questions were a distraction from the portion of her speech focused on the attack in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead in September.

"Dog handlers and there's four Americans killed?" Bachmann asked, before walking rapidly away from CNN's cameras down a hallway.

The backing Bachmann would provide for her charge the president is living a lavish White House lifestyle is a book, Presidential Perks Gone Royal, which itself doesn't provide specific sourcing.

"Michele Bachmann is playing small ball with the president, can't back up her criticism, and actually trivializes a huge problem, irresponsible spending by the federal government," O'Reilly said on his show Wednesday. "Two words: Not good."

"This would be much ado about nothing if not for the fact that trivial attacks on President Obama are obscuring serious problems in this country," O'Reilly added. "Does the president live well in the White House? Of course he does. Is there money wasted there? You bet there is. But every other president in history has lived that way."

"This is a trivial pursuit, and Michele Bachmann made a trivial mistake pursuing it," he continued.

"Shame on you Minnesota voters for electing this woman to represent you!"

Shame on you 6th District Minnesota voters for electing this woman to represent you.

Just to set the record straight. Unfortunately, not all of us are given the opportunity to vote her out. ; (
Beyond her little GOPerville community here in Minnesota, she is as much a laughingstock to us as she is to all of you. ; )

This is one time that I will agree with O'Reilly. Bachmann is a loose cannon; thank God she has been put in lock-down by her handlers!

ghags, you should blame Bachmann for making unfounded statements......again....See, it's these comments that conservatives focus on as well. If you read that particular article, you would see post after post screaming that Obama is living it up while the country suffers. Maybe if your side wasn't attempting to make every little issue an impeachable offense, maybe these comments would be magnified.

BTW, what don't we know about Libya anyway?

Minnesota wants to be remembered for giving us great leaders like Michelle Bachmann, come on Minnesota, can't you do better?

"What is more important to CNN and its viewers. To finally find out what happened in Libya..."

Hint: we know what happened in Libya. Our brave foreign service offices and staff were killed in a fire set by an angry mod, with no civilian help, and no immediate help from Libyan authories, while our closest aid was more than a half mile away ON FOOT. Here's another tip- we know more about the 4 deaths in Bengahzi than we do about the start of the Iraq war. As long as the Right insists that somehow the less than unique deaths of 4 Americans in a turbulant foreign country is somehow a greater mystery than an illegal war against a soveriegn nation that killed 125,000 innocent civilians outright; caused another 100,000 to die from disease and starvation; turned 2 million into refugees in other nations; and killed 7500 American soldiers and contractors- you fools have ZERO credibilty. Get it?

As the Congresswoman ran away from the reporter, she was overheard saying, "Who's been painting my roses red?
Who's been painting my roses red? Who dares to taint with vulgar paint the royal flower bed? For painting my roses red
    someone will lose his head."

Yeah I agree with Bachmann. Gone are the good old days when president GWB was in office and forgo the white house lavish lifestyle and moved into a log cabin with no heat or air during his presidency. Drove his own car to work and paid for all his own expenses and never took a dime in salary.

Michele clearly never uses her brain. Might be wise of her not to use her mouth either. What's wrong with the people in her district? I would take a 500 mile detour to avoid passing through there.

Come to think of it that must be why he spent so much time in Crawford at his range. He was able to live a more comfortable there.

Fell for her tirade, did you? I thought all you folks got her out of your system yesterday. She is a nobody going nowhere. I wouldn't be so eager to follow in her footsteps were I you. Even good old Bill O'Reilly understands she is on her way out the political door of relevance.

This is the kind of double standard this president has had to deal with since being in office. What was good for all former 43 presidents all of a sudden is not good for 44! The voters of Minnesota should have voted her out of office when they had a chance, she is a silly woman who makes silly comments often. It is so hard to take her serious about anything, I can't believe she is suppose to be an educated career woman because she acts like a grade school girl!

RS, as usual, right on point.

These same fools fought against even having a hearing on 9/11, Iraq altogether. Said democrats were playing politics. Obama, in all his graciousness and at the disapproval of democrats, let it go. In retrospect, he should have pressed them the way they have pressed him now.

Hearings on Fast and Furious.......not a single accusation proven, no one charged.....
Hearings on Solyndra.....not only was every accusation disproved, Paul Ryan was caught trying to get the same funds, from the same program, for HIS donors....to start an energy company.......Only republicans could overlook that.

How much time and money has been spent on republicans attempts to pin something.....anything on the president? But of course, to republicans, spending money is fine as long as they are the ones spending it.

Lynda, be real and open your mind back to see your comment truthfully. Can you claim a fraction of the accomplishments and gutsy challenges of this congresswoman, business owner, philanthropist and faithful mother of many children (biological and foster)? Debate issues she raises if you'd like, that's certainly fair and I would do the same...but blindly criticizing in a juvenile way won't advance anything in a productive way (nor does it show you in a decent or intellectually strong manner).

Btw, both of these reporters–perhaps too caught up being defensive about biased journalism–somehow completely missed the point here (it seems you did also). Bachmann highlighted how our country's leadership can be so misguided as to have slacked on Benghazi (a travesty that caused murdered Americans and remains improperly addressed...just ask the families) while prioritizing personal luxuries like dog walkers and celebrity golf outings (with an outrageous wife-cheater no less, a choice that clearly would have been avoided if a political election were still at stake...which makes it that much more shameful).

My questions are why does she keep winning her race, she has lied from day one about everything, and lives off the goverment her whole career, Why are the republicans so concered with 4 Americans that were killed in a country with civil unrest and severe problems, and never mention the 20 babies that were slaughtered in Conneticut by someone who can buy weapons of war.!

Right wing media isn't telling you that the Obama administration is actually spending $200 million less per year than what the Bush administration did. They're also not telling you that 90% of that budget goes towards security and the Secret Service.

Bachmann meets the right wing definition of a true welfare queen, for collecting government checks from every available program.

Rep Bachmann consistently misrepresents facts. She also indicates she is devoutly religious. Apparently the commandment of not bearing false witness against thy neighbor does not apply to her. She would have done well in the Bush-Cheney WH.

Lynda, it really sounds like you may have a deeply personal issue against her. Raising needy kids, successfully running a business, employing people and working hard as an elected official with a willingness to speak out (while managing to stay fit and healthy, in a committed relationship...which most of this country cannot claim). That's about as opposite of 'phony' as it gets. Maybe you could stake a claim against someone on a single one of those dimensions but not all combined. Not a likely case to win at all. I'm open to her input, yours and others. We all should be–that is the American way–and when you take a different stand, do it for good sound reason while disagreeing respectfully.
