Obama account retweets Lennon bloody glasses image

(CNN) - The striking image of John Lennon's bloody glasses, tweeted by his widow Yoko Ono on Wednesday, was resent to President Barack Obama's 28 million Twitter followers Thursday as the debate over gun control continues.

The image shows the round lenses splattered with blood and the text: "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980."

Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman outside the New York City apartment building where he and Ono lived.

Ono later tweeted "The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him."

Obama's Twitter account is run by Organizing for Action, the political group formed from the president's re-election campaign organization. One of its first major initiatives is promoting Obama's gun control proposals, which were unveiled in the aftermath of December's deadly school massacre in Connecticut.

One of the measures Obama advanced – a ban on assault weapons – was not included in a bill introduced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday. That legislation would expand background checks, improve school safety and restrict gun trafficking.

Yoko fails to mention that 80% of all those deaths were from unregistered firearms.

This is morbid and gross. Does he think this makes him cool? Oh, that's right – he's always about agenda.

Fact check? 1,057,000....in 33 years? I don't think so. 'Gunless' Chicago has the most of any city annually at about 500.

You are right Freedom, the results of uncontrolled gun violence is gross. Know whats worse? The GOP supports it and expects us to accept it as a cost of their doing business with the radical NRA.

It is only 4 months since the Newtown Massacre and America has lost almost 4,000 to firearms from all across the nation. The math would seem to check.

Yaw. Another anti-gun article on CNN. Is Piers Morgan the new Editor-in-Charge?

And THAT is precisely why we need to do full background checks, register, and license firearms and the people that own them.

It's not just the GOP supporting gun violence. Harry Reid and a number of other Democrats are also complicit. The legislation they are currently proposing is pathetic and weak, just like the gun nuts who need those weapons to give them courage.

That would be the delusional and psychotic Mark Chapman for whose actions millions of law-abiding and legal gunowners paid and continue to pay a price. Witness this silly Tweet.

Wow... fail. Obama is the Great Divider in Chief. He will simply go down as the worst president in American history. I have never seen a man so incompetent for a position and so careless and drunk with power. Disgusting.

1,057,000....in 33 years. A firearm didn't kill a single one of those 1,057,000. A PERSON killed each and evey one of them!

In the same 33 years, drunk drivers have murdered over 350,000. Do we blame the car? Or course not, we blame the drunk driver. So why do people blame guns when a Person uses one to kill someone?

Yeah, that happens soooo often in the U.S. I bet you think the DMV is coming for your car because it is "registered" too.

Ono, and CNN, fail to mention that 56% of those are suicides. Banning guns won't stop those people from finding another way of taking their own lives. Mental health is an issue, not guns
