Obama account retweets Lennon bloody glasses image

(CNN) - The striking image of John Lennon's bloody glasses, tweeted by his widow Yoko Ono on Wednesday, was resent to President Barack Obama's 28 million Twitter followers Thursday as the debate over gun control continues.

The image shows the round lenses splattered with blood and the text: "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980."

Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman outside the New York City apartment building where he and Ono lived.

Ono later tweeted "The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him."

Obama's Twitter account is run by Organizing for Action, the political group formed from the president's re-election campaign organization. One of its first major initiatives is promoting Obama's gun control proposals, which were unveiled in the aftermath of December's deadly school massacre in Connecticut.

One of the measures Obama advanced – a ban on assault weapons – was not included in a bill introduced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday. That legislation would expand background checks, improve school safety and restrict gun trafficking.

Yes, of course, it was "Obama's twitter account" that did it, not the man himself. In related news, Anthony Weiner's twitter account has confessed that it is indeed the guilty party.

Yes cars do kill thousands of people...but we also regulate them, create fines for breaking certain safety rules regarding them, limit it who can drive them, remove that right occasionally. We even restrict high power cars like "Formula one race cars" to the racetrack and keep them from being driven on our roadways.

If anyone dares ask this same regulation of guns, people lose their minds...
40% of guns sold now arent required to have a background check of the owner...40%

Actually it is the comments on here from liberals that validate conseratives position that any means of control is a first step is taking away all guns from citizens except the government. Not a very good way to get what you want. Bull in a China shop.

I think it's truly ironic when the liberal thought police try to purvey their twisted rhetoric while attempting to discredit their opposition by claiming themselves to be evolutionally superior. How hateful and immature of you all. Grow up and get over yourself. You only bring further shame to yourself and your cohorts by being so utterly pretentious and arrogant. "Humility is the guiding light of every other ideal essential to a free and open society."

Mind if run a background check on you?
Can i learn if you got a divorce, how old your kids are?
Where you live? What trips you have taken?
Your credit report, how many cars you own?
Can I also get the information on when you leave your house and what time you come back?

I'm not sure how far it goes, but a background check is a very nice term to be abused for "Spying" or "Stalking".
    --------

Absolutely. Check with my local police station anytime you want. Fact is, no doubt it's already been done numerous times. Bought a house ... had a few job applications ... bought a few cars ... over the years. You know how it is. All those things folks need in order to get to know me better to see if I'm who I say I am and whether or not I'm a responsible sort of lady. Etc. Etc. Etc.

You'll also find I don't hide under my bed at night, either.

You fraudulant, social media, popcorn pimp.Still just a smarmy little punk. You are fooling most of the people most of the time -but you arent fooling me.

Did you know that if you install a pool in your backyard that the chances of you drowning increase by 80%?
Time to put restrictions on pool installation I think. You must be certified to swim in that deep of water and get a permit to purchase that will be regulated by the government.

"Except that's not what he said...not in any way, shape or form...and you just mischaracterized his argument to give yourself a straw man to knock down."

Well, to be fair. When all you have is a straw man to knock down ... you end up with nothing but straw to push around all day.

The Administration is getting desperate. Assault weapons ban – FAIL. Background checks – DOA. Even some Democrats aren't supporting the Administration's madness. That should tell them a lot.

So that means, out of the millions of deaths since 1980, only 1% to 2% of those deaths were caused by guns...and that includes suicides and people shot by the police. If you really care about the general welfare of this country, try going after something that has more of a negative impact on society...like tobacco, for example. In my opinion, the gun debate is just a distraction from all of the fiscal issues and scandals that are going on right now. Wake up, America. This gun issue gets people arguing with each other instead of organizing against the big money players that are robbing us blind.

The lobbyists own and run Washington. The politicians work for them, instead of serving the American people.

The US is the number producer of arms.

    Do the math.

Greedy and self-serving politicians + corporations with big money = selling out the American people.

Moral of the story: What a shame our country has become so corrupt and has lost it's way.

I like the victimhood ploy too.......when you can't compete intellectually, play the victim. A now infamous and stale rightwing tactic, since rightwingers haven't competed intellectually for quite some time now.

Boo-Hoo to the rightwing victims, today's self-styled conservatives.

Background checks does nothing to prevent a criminal fr getting a gun. All of these control would not have stop any of the massacre that took place. To say that it would is pure speculation. Giffords shooting could have been prevented if they had proper security. I called personal responsibility people! Sandy Hook could not have been prevented. The owner had legal permit, had background checks, and the shooter was her mentally ill son. Background check will not prevent another one. None of it is common sense and none of it will stop the criminals. They are feel good policies for the weak minded liberals. As for the restriction on ammno. It cuts both ways. Now of u r threatened you better be a good marksman and be able to drop your aggressor in 15 shots or less. Nice huh? but it does not bode well for the mom protecting herself and kids for the 3 burglars hopped up on meth or crack. Nope her life and kids are protected within the realm of 15 round ammon clip. After that their lives are worthless.

Oh my gosh, "1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980." That's almost as many as Libs like Yoko Ohno advocate for aborting on a yearly basis in the US!

The background check is worthless until the laws allow the background checks to search your medical history. It's mental illness and mental instability that seem to be the ones who randomly start mass killings. All others are personal relationship issues or blatent criminal acts (robberies), which won't be caught by the background checks.

But, once they open your medical records to checks, it will be the reason for exposing your medical history to the world for other purposes. (That job applicant just applied to buy a gun (not) but, guess what they found...)

"1.3 million people killed by automobiles from January 1981 through 2012. That is more than firearms. Let's regulate car sales first."

Ummmm...we do regulate car sales. We regulate them heavily. We keep track of every single vehicle sale, who sold it and who the new owner is and we don't allow any of them to be on the road without having that information registered with the gov't. The system has worked wonders for reducing thefts and helping hold people accountable for crimes committed with their vehicles, not to mention making sure they have insurance for any accidents, etc. What freekin planet have you been on that you missed all this?

Amazing what ends those CLAIMING to be LIBERALS go to just because guns offend them! So called LIBERALS/LEFTISTS?PROGRESSIVES are -NOT- any of the aforementioned. If you don't agree with them the do this kind of thing!
They REFUSE to ACCEPT responsibility for the violent society we live in DUE to their LIBERAL/LEFTIST promotion and acceptance of VIOLENCE in movies and video games!!!! They CANNOT SEE how someone dressed as BATMAN and MURDERS theater goers and someone acting out a VIDEO GAME to KILL CHILDREN has to do with ANYTHING but controlling guns!!! AMAZING!

The gunman behind the shooting massacre at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School reportedly compiled extensive research about previous mass murders into a spreadsheet containing roughly 500 people

The Connecticut police believe that he picked an elementary school because he felt it was a point of least resistance, where he could rack up the greatest number of kills.
