Obama account retweets Lennon bloody glasses image

(CNN) - The striking image of John Lennon's bloody glasses, tweeted by his widow Yoko Ono on Wednesday, was resent to President Barack Obama's 28 million Twitter followers Thursday as the debate over gun control continues.

The image shows the round lenses splattered with blood and the text: "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980."

Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman outside the New York City apartment building where he and Ono lived.

Ono later tweeted "The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him."

Obama's Twitter account is run by Organizing for Action, the political group formed from the president's re-election campaign organization. One of its first major initiatives is promoting Obama's gun control proposals, which were unveiled in the aftermath of December's deadly school massacre in Connecticut.

One of the measures Obama advanced – a ban on assault weapons – was not included in a bill introduced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday. That legislation would expand background checks, improve school safety and restrict gun trafficking.

    A) The shooter was mentally ill, the libs support the "right" of the mentally ill to not be required to get treatment, or take medication.

Source for your lie please. Additionally, let me remind you that your hero raygun's Mental Health Patient Bill of Rights pretty much emptied treatment facilities of anyone who DIDN'T WANT TO BE THERE!!! The woman you see every day pushing a shopping cart overflowing with who knows what and shouting incoherently at passers-by would be in a mental health facility right now if it wasn't for raygun. A Tampa cop and his K9 partner would both still be alive if the disheveled guy pushing a shopping cart full of high-powered weapons down a city street had not been able to check himself out of a treatment facility, thanks to raygun's Mental Health Patients bill of rights.

The only radical this country should be worried about is in the White House. His name is Obama.

And who can respect or listen to a woman who broke up a lifelong friendship between John and Paul – and The Beatles. Those kind of women are only about themselves.

The celebrities all live in blue states, they are well educated, work hard and pay their fair share of taxes and they don't live on welfare and handouts like you people in red states.

Yes so that their mentally unstable, Prozac-consuming and soon-to-be criminal offsprings and realtives can have access to them to dismember 6-year olds.

Yes, that's right Mallory! Thanks for the reminder. That was part of "Who-Am-I" Raygun's legacy.

1st) Any mention of hunting or Traditions during a conversation about the 2nd Amendment, proves that the speaker knows nothing, and should remain quiet. 2nd) Just because people refuse to accept the reality that Human Monsters do exist, does not mean that myself or my family should be prohibited from defending ouselves from them.

The average American did not say "no" to the AWB. The NRA said it, and the Republicans obliged them. Polls show that 85% of Americans want an assault weapons ban.

If it's so popular, why doesn't Harry Reid bring it up for a vote? I'll tell you why – he is a pitiful political COWARD.

You know America has a gun and violence problem when people refer to their gun as "John Lennon."

The media should refrain from mentioning the shooters' names. Notoriety is what they sought in many cases, certainly in the case of John Lennon's murderer. We should not encourage other mentally ill people to think they will get the notoriety they seek by "immortalizing" their names in the media.

Seriously? You have a problem with Yoko Ono reminding America of how her husband was gunned down in America? Guess your freedom mantra only applies to you and your ideology. For those of us on the left ... not so much.

Golf courses are such a waste of land...
They would make a great outdoor shooting range.

Something I would like to know...
How is it that most Democrats know nothing about guns?
If they were so smart, don't you think they would know!
How do they avoid going in the armed forces?
If they really cared about our country, they should serve our country too!

BEN... Thank you for your comment. Very accurate and intelligent. Just wish some of these libs would learn from it!!!!!!!

Escape the echo chamber once in a while. He is bringing it up for a vote. Sen. Reid is playing a much more subtle game.

There a lot of Tea Party freshmen in the Senate and the House who have no NRA scores because they've never held putlic office before. He's going to give them all of the rope they need to establish the perfect aces with the NRA, for the express purpose of demonizing them down the road for having supported the NRA so faithfully.

That number seems WAY overblown. It's almost as high as the number killed in car accidents (around 100 per day) and we know that far far more people die in car accidents.

Even if it was accurate, it's a number that leaves-out all of the important details. Like that a huge portion of gun-related deaths are suicides. A majority that aren't involve illegally owned weapons. Only a tiny fraction involve assault-style weapons like the AR-15. Almost none involve true assault weapons that are fully automatic like the M-16. The most shocking cases (like Sandy Hook) usually involve mental illnesses...

Noone broke up the "lifelong friendship" of Lennon and McCartney. Years before John's murder, both men had reconciled, hung out together and even talked about getting the Beatles back together.

That figure is a lie. The FBI, who keep meticulous records on this category of crime, show around 8,000 per year. For the tally to be 1 million, Lennon would have to have been killed in 125 years ago.

You know what would be interesting? If a faction of Afghan troops surrounded by a batallion of U.S. forces were to suddenly whip out the Preamble and point to the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. Gee, Oops, my bad. Well, sorry we invaded your country and took away your guns. Game Over. Mission Acccomplished Not!
