Bachmann's presidential campaign under investigation by congressional ethics panel

Washington (CNN) - Former GOP 2012 presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann's campaign is under investigation by an independent ethics panel on Capitol Hill, according to a statement from an attorney representing Bachmann.

William McGinley, a partner at Patton Boggs, a Washington law firm, released a statement to CNN on Monday confirming a story that first appeared in the Daily Beast that the Office of Congressional Ethics is looking into the Minnesota congresswoman's presidential campaign.

But McGinley insists Bachmann did nothing wrong.

"There are no allegations that the congresswoman engaged in any wrongdoing. We are constructively engaged with the OCE and are confident that at the end of their Review the OCE Board will conclude that Congresswoman Bachmann did not do anything inappropriate," McGinley said in a written statement to CNN.

According to the Daily Beast, several former Bachmann campaign workers are being interviewed about the potential improper transfer of campaign funds. One of those quoted in the article, Peter Waldron, is a former campaign aide who filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that Bachmann's illegally used money from her political action committee to pay a campaign consultant.

The Office of Congressional Ethics is a separate entity set up in 2008 as a nonpartisan panel to screen potential instances of misconduct by members of the House of Representatives. If OCE decides a matter warrants additional review if can refer it to the House Ethics Committee, which determines whether an official investigation will be launched.

As is the custom, the Office of Congressional Ethics declined to comment on whether it was reviewing any alleged impropriety by Bachmann.

How about the Obama's sending off their daughters to the Bahama's for spring break but they just had to fire the Easter Bunny and shut down the WH tours!

What part of Obama has "his own money" do you not understand? He is not sending his daughter's off on a political mission, so he is not using tax payer money. Do you expect him to finance the entire U.S. government out of his pocket too? He does make a salary that he does not have to justify every expense he uses it for. If that is the case, then congress should be transparent with their living expenses also.

Heck, I think I 'll run for an office. Just looking at all the GOP you certainly don't need any brains for this job. I can always buy a clown suit.

Ahhh, why can't she just fade into the sunset like Palin? We go for a while not hearing anything about her, and then she surfaces at CPAC, goes crazy about Obama's dog walker, etc. When questioned by the press, she dodges the comments and says something inane about Benghazi. It makes my head hurt to listen to her.
And by the way, at CPAC, all they did was have speeces by losers, losers preaching to other losers who are hopeful that they don't become bigger losers. The Donald, Palin, Bachman, Ryan, etc. The actual intelligent members of the GOP, who have a chance to turn the party around and become more inclusive aren't listened to, they don't listen to their own report, they just keep doing the same old thing. Talk about insanity.

"Michelle Bachmann has simply outlived her usefullness. Her hatred is no longer needed as Barack Obama will be leaving the WH in Jan. 2017."

Well said. I agree 100% with your entire post. It's rather funny watching them try to slip slide away from the reality of the utter hate folks such as Bachmann nurtured and fed (for votes and power) in 2010. I'm still shaking my head over her compassion and her good will towards others. She quite takes my breath away.

She lied over and over during the campaign apparently no big deal. What kind of ethics is it to lie over and over all while standing on a stack of bibles. Now its a problem since money is involved. This country needs to take a good look at itself!

wiseup: just last week she was pointing finger at the president about what he was paying for. Seems she had four more pointing at herself. Bachman, Rand Paul, Gohsmer and Graham all like to talk just to get publicity but never have anything worth listening to

Just keep it stirred up so the GOP can smell it and know she's still around and willing to shill.

I sure hope she finally loses that seat in 2014. The IQ level of DC would immediately double. Have you really listened to WHAT she says? It's mumbo jumbo idiocy.

Anytime any of the Obamas (or the Bidens, or any of their staff/advance teams) goes anywhere, they are spending taxpayer dollars.

Just don't expect this woman to tell the truth about anything. For those into the truth (I know this excludes the GOP) look up politifact.com and research it because they are one of two unbiased folks reporting on the truth or lies in politics and Bachman is always a pants of fire liar.

OK, so I think Bachmann is dreadful excuse for a human being, but we have to suspend judgment. Just because an ethics panel is checking up, doesn't mean anything illegal or unethical happened. Wait for the report.

I want to know who are the people voting for this delusional lunatic? Are the people of Minnesota saying they don't have any other candidate to represent them but her? Having her as congresswoman from their district says lot about Minnesota.

So do you. You cost the taxpayers for wear and tear on bridges, highways, and roads, and don't forget about the police protection to keep it all safe for you. The people that you cite just happen to cost a little more.

But, if you think what they spend is too much, then how come you didn't complain about the Bush administration, which spent on average $200 million more per year than the Obama administration.

    "Nice try, but we gotcha."

So he is paying the secret service agents out of his pocket that are there with them? Don't think so. He could have kept the WH open so that the school kids could have tour for months on what we are paying to "protect" them.
