NRA's new beat: Meet the young guns

(CNN) - The National Rifle Association introduced new "commentators" for its news website, where a trio of young adult gun owners aim to debunk what they consider common myths and misunderstandings about firearms.

In a highly-produced video segment released Monday on NRA News and perhaps aimed to break stereotypes of gun owners, the organization showcases a blogger who writes about guns for women, a former Navy SEAL, and an "urban gun enthusiast."

NRA News features video segments and shows, including "Cam & Co," which also airs on the Sportsman Channel.

The new video is interwoven with footage of the three shooting at a gun range and talking about their passion for educating people on guns. A trendy, modern beat can be heard under visuals of the personalities shooting different types firearms, with shells and casings discharging in slow motion.

The new video in particular takes a swipe at "politicians, media elites and celebrity puppets" for being what they describe as ignorant of guns and proper terminology.

"They have no idea what the difference is between a shotgun and an AR-15, and then they think AR-15s are fully automatic, which is completely false," argues Natalie Foster, who runs the website "A Girl's Guide to Guns."

A number of celebrities have indeed used their platform to call for more gun control. Dozens of A-listers took part in a December ad for Mayors Against Illegal Guns, calling for a plan against gun violence.

On Monday, actor Jim Carrey released a parody video on the comedy website "Funny or Die," in which Carrey mocks Charlton Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands." The late actor and former NRA president made the statement in a 2000 speech to NRA members.

Wearing a New York Yankees hat, another NRA commentator Colion Noir, the "urban gun enthusiast," praises the practice of shooting as a peaceful and tranquil experience.

"There is something about going out into the middle of nowhere that is so awe-inspiring, so relaxing and you hear nothing except the sound of a gun going off," he says. Noir, who joined NRA News slightly earlier than the other two, says he was not pro-guns until he went to a gun range for the first time.

Dom Raso, the third personality and former Navy SEAL, talks about his frustration with some people perceiving guns as nothing but lethal weapons.

"The killing machine is here," Raso says, pointing to his head. "It's not in your hand."

He also takes issue with Vice President Joe Biden, the administration's leading voice on the push for tighter gun laws. President Barack Obama and Biden have actively advocated for a ban on semiautomatic rifles modeled after military-style weapons, as well as a limit to magazine capacities.

Biden drew criticism for advising in a Facebook town hall to use a shotgun and shoot twice in the air as a way to fend off intruders. Critics argue that's simply a way to waste ammunition.

"It's ridiculous to hear our vice president trying to tell me or anybody else what they should be doing to defend their home, period," Raso says in the video.

The video comes days after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid formally introduced gun legislation to expand the background check system and create tougher laws for gun trafficking. The powerful NRA has been fiercely opposed to any restrictions on current gun laws and Washington is gearing up for a showdown when the Senate returns for debate on the bill in two weeks.

Would we find those nice young folks so wholesome and inviting if their "toys" were scythes? Maybe guillotines? Vails of life-ending drugs? How about electric chairs? Landmines? Poisons?

No, I rather think were a bit odd, and maybe even a bit dangerous. The NRA in treating weapons of war and death as toys (for everyone!) has created a far, far worse problem than TV shows, movies or video games- they expect us to accept and embrace mindless death.

The NRA won't make an ad of Lil Wayne rapping about letting his "chopper" off. They won't make an ad with French Montana singing "My chopper goes tadow." Is that sending the wrong message NRA?

You could let them have a hundred guns and ten thousand round clips, and they would still scream foul, i believe in the 2nd amendment but limits proposed are not very limiting, yet all the nut job conspiracy theorists are having a stroke over it

"Urban gun enthusiast" is a black dude whose last name means black?

BWAHAHAHAHAHA...yeah, there's no "token" shenanigans going on here. I can see the strategery meeting with LaPierre now....

Stooge: "You know, all them "urban" people are always shooting each other...I bet we can appeal to them and open up a whole new market segment! After all, gun control might mean they have a harder time getting guns for their "urban activities" right?"

LaPierre: "Now you're talkin'. Find me an "urban" person to sell them memberships and guns, stat!"

It's little different than Rubio getting chosen by the GOP/Teatrolls as their "face of immigration reform."

@Sniffitt, How are you different than "they" are? You admonish them for poisoning any attempt at rational discussion, and at the same time you spew your bile at any belief that is different than yours. I don't agree with the NRA, but I sure as hell don't embrace your pomposity either.

To quote Thomas Paine: “To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead."

There's no point trying to reason with the NRA. It's like having a battle of wits with unarmed people.

You'd be surprised at how many of us who "proclaim our unswerving love of life" are also anti-capital punishment... myself included. But that doesn't fit your narrative, does it?

Bull pucky. I cite things to back up my claims when I make them...studies, numbers, etc. Frequently, all it takes is some quck Googling to throw numbers or studies at your silly conservative ideological reality-denial. When I'm not citing things, it's usually because I'm just making fun of you rather than trying to make an argument haha. Cry about it.

I don't believe in the death penalty, Rudy... but I mean really – are you trying to compare someone paying the ultimate price for heinous crimes to a completely innocent, voiceless life who's only "crime", in the vast majority of cases, was to be conceived by parents who wouldn't own up to their responsibility? That's pretty sick.

In constantly changing world the use of gun might not be as important as it used to be when we lived in the jungle sharing life with predator animals.. The technology advancement (electronic security system) and our progress to solve conflict with dialoged and argument can enable us to feel secure and protected, unless we live in a war zone. The NRA and the gun industries are out dated like the cigarette companies but they are gasping their last breath before society changes in front of their eyes. Because, the unlimited gun is there means of economic survival.

I have a question for gun advocates in America: what if some of the gun regulation sought after in question was to one day avert another shooting tragedy and was to actually result in sparring one of your love one's from being another statistic, then tell me...is the regulation in question a bad thing or a good thing??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

And extremely dangerous... what goes up, must come down... Unless you're indoors, in which case you're shooting into the upstairs bedroom/apartment/living space where there may or may not be other people...

Joe clearly thought this out in advance.

For all you whiny m0r0ns out there that are anti-gun......who do you think commits the vast majority of gun violence? If you said criminally-minded people, you're right. Do you think these same people are going to abide by any kind of gun laws? If you said no, you're right again. Who do you think will be affected by gun laws? If you said law-abiding citizens, you're right again! Wow, see how fun this is? Gun laws will only create more victims. You might as well paint a bulls-eye people houses for the criminals.

You're wasting your time, Donna. They live in a world where there's no God. In that world, no God = no consequences. It's a very very convenient setup for them.
    ********************************
A world where those who pray in the public square so people can see them is a world without God. A world where the wealthy are defended at the the expense of the poor is a world without God. A world where we show no reverence for the planet we live on is a world without God. The NRA does not believe in consequences of their actions or the policies they promote, such as de-funding law enforcement, gutting gun buy-back programs, etc. By the way, can you honestly say that the death penalty has been wrongly applied? If you say yes, you are providing conclusive proof that the re-election of the president sent you over the edge. Would you help the children who are born out of wedlock, or would you just say its not your problem. If you have eyes, ears, and a soul, it becomes your problem. The NRA deals in death, and makes money off of it.

Gangs and drug dealers and the economy are the cause of people dying on the street. I spoke to guy who did a home invasion in Barrington,il. That stated there was a group of about twenty guys he hangs out with. He stated most have been to prison, but a few had not,but were out of work. The work was a main factor he told me that caused him and his buddy's to go out to the wealthy neighborhoods and rob people's homes while they were at home. This is becoming no common in the United States today as last week five guys robbed a home where people were gathered. They took money jewelry and wallets, this was in Joliet,Il. With three of the five on parole. The government gave to positive feed back to better protect people and only want to take the guns out of homes that will cause more rape, robbery and murder. The police have been under staffed for years and its to the point most cities make your call in the burglary to your home. We need about seven thousand police added per state. They let the drugs run wild and a drug addict needing another high would kill a person for ten bucks. The gun issue his being used a vote getter, gaining votes is all that matters to some politicians. There are ten times more deaths from drugs and drug related suicides, mental health and medical cost than from guns. I am not a member to any gun group, but have seen my 70 yr. old neighbor, beat, robbed and raped by two guys and let tied to a chair to die. The 19'yr.old girl across the street stabbed to death, another elderly woman raped by two other guys as ahe died from her beating. The janitor a couple blocks away at the church stabbed to death and a couple neighbors raped in other locations where I lived. The drugs are going to get most of the kids in America before a gun will.

We need to take back our country from these paranoid freaks. Don't bother talking to them or arguing with them. Just start organizing. To the rest of the world these NRA morons are becoming the face of America. How long are we going to be the silent majority in the face of people who essentially are still children with their toys and the black and white childish intellectual and emotional abilities??

What is the NRA's position on regulation and background checks? Their position on regulation and background checks is that it is a violation of one's second amendment rights. And what is the NRA's position on why they need to have guns??? Their reason for having guns is to protect and defend themselves against criminals with guns. Did I miss something here? Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
