Gun control debate intensifies as Grassley crafts new bill

Washington (CNN) - A top congressional Republican is drafting alternative gun control legislation that threatens to undermine proposals now under consideration by leaders of the Senate's Democratic majority, CNN learned Thursday.

A spokeswoman for Iowa's Chuck Grassley refused to give CNN details of the senator's plan. In the past, however, he has backed measures to deter "straw purchases" to clamp down on gun trafficking. He also supports new safety provisions for schools.

It's amazing he managed to do so while his face was in LaPierre's lap.

"He also supports new safety provisions for schools. "

Translation: "He supports lifting the gun free zone restrictions around schools."

    STOP. EUPHAMIZING. CNN.

Now this legislation will make sense. It will be based on logic and provide real, positive change.

The left can stuff it, their emotional driven drivel made no sense.

"Throughout history, governments have wanted to shut up those who would criticize government, to suppress unpopular religions, or to disarm people,"

Wow...almost lost count of the dogwhistles embedded in there. Let's break it down, shall we?

    "those who would criticize government"

Translation: "they are coming for you Tea Partiers and trying to silence your dissent...be very very afraid and angry"

    "to suppress unpopular religions"

Translation: "Obama is a muslim born in Kenya who wants to subject the nation to "creeping Sharia" and turnt he USA into a socialist caliphate and his gun control efforts are part of his plan to increase the persecution of Christians and force them all to wear condoms and get abortions."

    "or to disarm people,"

Translation: "He comin' fo' yo' gunz, all you nice law-abiding white people, because he doesn't want you to be able to defend yourself when the race war starts and all those urban minority criminals who don't obey the laws anyway are all still armed to the teeth!!!!!"

Do-Nothing Democrat Harry Reid won't allow it to come up for a vote so not sure why he is wasting his time.

If it were actually designed to do something other than appease the gun-huggers and the death-dealers they support, it might. Would you prefer to have Mitch " one-term president" McConnell running the show, with all fo his wonderful accomplishments? 30 years in the Senate, what has he done? What is the GOP alternative to everything? Do nothing, except subsidize the wealthy even more at the expense of the middle class.

Grassley in an ineffective puke. Iowans ought to be embarrased. Come to think of it, Iowa is an embarrassment.

An NRA member with a concealed carry permit who was armed could have stopped that little maggot in Newtown. Ask yourself, in the same situation what could you have done? Throw your iPod at him? Try to reason with him?

Indeed. I'd like to see some polling that gets at the opposite end of the spectrum with respect to all the idiots that love to yammer about secession: who supports just getting rid of states X, Y and Z and booting them the hell out of the union? Ask it CNN. Or do you not think the results will jibe with your current efforts to swing towards Faux News market share?

But only if he was wearing his cape and tights, right? Real life =/= cartoons. Lanza popped off approximately 150 rounds in less than 5 minutes AND most of those were hitting children that were already dead.

"The bill is still being written, so we're not able to share it at this time."

And, who pray tell, is "writing this bill"? No. Don't answer, I already know. Grassley's fax machine must be on overload right about now.

Gun manufacturing lobbyists pulling double shifts as I type.
