Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

This monster, that will never be superior to a legend and a patriot like Heston, bullies a dead man and now he is the victim? You are a pathetic excuse of a human being, Carrey and we crushed you!

Planet of the Apes was also one of Mr. Hestons movie roles (and one of my favorites). Is there a reason why this one is never mentioned?

Just because one's job involves a script and a camera doesn't mean that they lack the capacity to think beyond lights and glitter. To everyone that says they don't care what Carey's opinion on the matter is because he's "just" a liberal entertainer searching for another 15 minutes, you are obviously unaware of his serious work. Jim Carey doesn't hesitate to talk about the bigger issues... Youtube him. We're all citizens of this country (yes, even Canadians if they go through this process called immigration), and there are many issues that are, thankfully, our right to discuss... regardless of you who are, famous or not!

Poor Jimmy. He open his mouth and can't handle the response. I'm sure there's a few bleeding hearts ready for Jimmy with some tissues. I guess he's going to have to live on the money he's already made, because his career is over. Who would want to see anything with a whining, spoiled Hollywood big mouth that can't keep his political views to himself? Bye-Bye Jimmy. Have fun with your future bankruptcy.

I watched the video expecting to laugh, but it is much like most of his material, not funny. Jim Carrey has not been relevant for 10 plus years, and has become very very creepy, especially toward younger women. I think this is his attempt to get some publicity, and it worked, but unfortunately, everyone who sees the video agrees it lacks anything to even crack a smile, and I support gun control.

They did not mention he was active in the civil rights movement. I saw a picture of him and Dr. King at the Lincoln memorial.

Hooray for Carrey! Fox News is a joke, and has done considerable harm to the national image of the USA.

It seems Mr. Carey can dish it out but he can't take it. Didn't he use to be some kind of comedian?

Carrey is clown. Never liked him before his attempt at senseless humor and he is still a no body in my life. It is notable that Carrey didnt have the guts to pick on a live person and then cried bully when it is himself attempting to bully gun owners. What a wimp.

Hye, Jim, you should spend a little more time polishing your oscars.....oh wait!

Somehting else the honourable Mr Heston has that you don't. Too bad so sad.....as is your career, now on the downhill side of a molehill.

Succinct and well phrased Mr. Carrey. Couldn't disagree with a single point. I too await the day Fux is a thing of the past. Never in our history has there been a more divisive group of people passing themselves off as journalists.
