Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Mr. Carey obviously can't indulge himself in intellectual dialogue with those that oppose his views, how unfortunate for him.

People are narrow minded. The issue here is Gun Control, not Heston. His views on Gun control should be respected . Jim Carrey has brought laughter to millions of people. He is a Comedian. In a world that is full of turmoil ,laughter brings joy to all families. All you people are Judgmental and Jim Carrey has his right to express his views the issue of Gun Control. Humor is very healthy, so keep up the good work Jim so all the Men, Women, and Children can smile through Adversity or turmoil.

Jim Carrey hit the nail on the head, again! Why is it that it takes a comedian to make serious points about politics in America these days? He, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, George Carlin, etc. are all way more conscious than most of the nay-sayers above, and they certainly are better informed and more clear-headed than most of the politicians we have now. If you're offended by Jim Carrey, then you are probably a Fux News-watching ding-dong yourself, not to mention your lack of a good sense of humor. Pointing out the lack of integrity of News Corp and their brainless leaders is like pointing out that the sky is blue. It's pretty hard to miss.

If people took just as much offence at all the gun crimes maybe something would be done...

I have never liked JIm Carreys so called humour and now I know why. The video he made borders on a hate crime under section 319: Public incitement of hatred in the Canadian criminal code. The guy acts like a bigot or racist when he slurs and defames millions of non-violent gun owning citizens who he holds responsible for viscious crimes. This is the exact same logic that racists or terrorists use. Jim Carrey should be boycotted by all decent people.

America: Where guns are sacred and life is cheap.
Please look up the 2008 ruling by the Supreme Court....You might learn something. Statement made by Justice Scalia.....please look it up.

Carrey doesn't like 2nd Amendment protections, especially since he can afford his own armed guards: just freedom of speech as in the First Amendment. Let's be real, is there anyone who thinks Carrey isn't more thana bit off in real life? And surely we know he's a selfless narcisist who really, really loves all this attention.

John I agree with you, sounds like Jim can't handle criticism but can dish it out in large doses. I do find it interesting that foreigners like Carey and Morgan get so heated over US issues, but ignore the issues in their own backyards. I've been travelling to Canada recently and there are plenty of deaths reported everyday from guns that Mr. Carey could spoof, but then that wouldn't bring him the kind of entertainment buzz that it does in the US now would it. Oh, and I do listen to that certain channel but I'm not a redneck, a racist, a millionaire, pro-lifer, or a gun owner. Go figure...

Well, Mr. Carry, as a left of center citizen, and a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I just have to ask to who is the bully.
You use the NRA as does the anti guns as the poster child why my franchise of citizenship should be change.

But you fail to point out the NRA represent less than 1% of gun owning American's.
But you bully people into falsely believing if you are pro 2nd amendment you are a NRA troll

Nice using your 1st Amendment rights to lie , fear and fool people.;Just what Fox news does.

If Foxnews is so terrible, how is it that it consistently leads the in ratings? The bottom line is that Foxnews is where the majority of Americans gets their current events. Don't these celebrities understand how disconnected they are from the common person....sheesh...they need to realize there is a whole country between the West and East coasts that don't buy into their freak agendas.

Jim Carrey is another celebrity who needs a dose of reality and some common sense. What world is he living in?
What a gutless, clueless, cowardly way to make his political point. Celebrities like him don't deserve the time of day and I will make sure I never pay to see any of his work again.

All of you pro-fox news conservatives need to get over yourselves. Although I don't agree with mocking someone who is now deceased; he has a good point about the conservative media. You guys (especially deacon) need keep your ultra-conservative "all liberals are against freedom" nonsense to yourselves.

Carrey is the bully by picking on a dead man. Never mind his ignorance and harmful words. Just like his ignorant talk on vaccines this too will cost lives.

Why do I even bother coming to this site? Your article states that Charlton Heston, "Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003." which is to completely ignore the fact that he was political in other ways such as being vocal about civil rights before it became popular to do so. Omission and misrepresentation can border on lying.

I agree with Jim Carrey about Fox News–I'm sick of Republican bullies in general. And I thought the Hee Haw spoof was hilarious–especially Carrey's dancing!

Jim Carrey can make whatever political statement he desires. This is America and he is free to do so. I can choose to deny him and the networks playing his movies my financial support and that's exactly what I plan on doing.

I could not care less about the gun control debate but personally i found it amusing. LOL "and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart"...Hrehe at least it was original. Now as or one of the posters that said

"Since when do these so called stars opinion really matter. So sick listening to their their political opinions. What a shame for the young people today to have to look up to these people as so called role models."

...i would ask wouldn't Heston be any less considered as a so-called star with a political opinion? Can't have it both ways. Why we listen to ANY of them or consider their opinions any more worth than yours or mine does a disservice to all of us. In more formal streams of logic it is referred to as a logical fallacy, an appeal to authority. But it does not make it any less illogical.

Willy Nilly...I guess it's ok for Obama and the democrats to exploit the death of 20 kids in Newtown to advance a their leftist political agenda isn't it? None of the proposals undo the inexcusable defense of the mentally ill at the expense of the safety of society. The highest crime areas have the strictest gun laws and are all run by unchecked liberal leftists. It's not about "gun control" with your ilk...it's about "free people control". Leftist live and breathe on telling others what they can't have, what they can't say, what they can't do and are willing to lie, decieve and stoop to any low necessary to impose their will. Keep your "morally self righteous", bigoted and misguided hands off of my private property.

I agree with Jim Carrey about Fox News–most Republican are insecure little bullies who need big guns and a loud mouth to compensate for their shortcomings. And I thought the Hee Haw spoof was hilarious–especially Carrey's dancing!

His comment may be true about Fox, but he conveniently gives a pass to other major media outlets. Sounds pretty one-sided to me.

Chris: "If [Carrey] likes gun control so much why doesn't he move back to Canada[?]"

Yes, this is the mindset of ultra-conservatives: if you don't agree with me then you don't belong in America. You give yourselves away. With comments like this you make it plain that you do not see America as the land of the free, but the land of the sheep, where everybody has the same opinions.

So sorry to burst your bubble, but the 1st Amendment gives us the right to speak our minds. If you don't agree, that is fine, but that doesn't make you any more patriotic than anybody else.
