Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Carey, the fool, being taken seriously by anyone? Anyone taking him seriously has to be as much of a fool as he is.

Geez . . . so many Jim Carrey haters! I agree with you, Mr. Carrey, and apologize on behalf of all Americans for the nasty comments about you when they turn right around and purport that Heston was somebody to admire! NOT!

Carrey stands for nothing except comedy. Heston was a real man who stood for something to respect.

I can't help but notice "brave" Jim Carrey went after a dead old man - Heston - rather than a live one a little closer to Carrey's age. Like maybe Ted Nugent?

The "bully" is easy to spot here: he's the one who goes after someone who can't defend himself, rather than attacking someone who might stomp the bully into a greasy smear on the sidewalk.

Jim is right. And he is correct about his satire as well. It is remarkable how religious insanity, and gun violence go so hand in hand with each other. The Conservatives are ancient dinosaurs, anti Logic, anti Science, they want to cling to their guns out of fear and ignorance, and it is getting children killed across the country.

Jim Carrey is a clown and not a very good clown at that. He certainly is no actor...so, essentially he's a nothing!
He's accomplished nothing in his life and yet he dares ridicule one of the greatest actors Hollywood has ever produced.
Carrey is obviously an ultra liberal and he will do anything and everything to attack conservatives...he's not fit to clean my shoes let alone criticize me or anyone else.
What an absolute waste of a human being...ewww!

why didn't you let my comment yesterday go through?? it was not ugly or anything, just that it must have hurt poor Jim's feelings that we didn't laugh at his stupid comment.

Jim Carrey isn't an American, he is Canadian. If does not like the freedoms provided to us as Americans he should go back to Canada.

Carry is a has-been who never was. This is probably the most publicity he's ever enjoyed, and he's clearly enjoying it a great deal.

This man became famous for silly faces, impressions, and talking with his butt. No one should care about his views on politics. Why does anyone listen to Hollywood actors/actresses when it comes to real life issues? They don't live or work in real life.

I tried to find the video, but all I could find was a hundred different FOX News videos from different hosts blasting the video. I guess Carrey accomplished what he wanted. He stirred up all the FOX people into a frenzy. One guy keeps claiming that Carrey has killed more people than all guns combined somehow.

So let's recap. Carrey, who has a history of depression if I remember correctly, thinks he has an oppinion on gun control judging by what people want he can't even own a gun with a mentally disturbed past!. Biden gives advice that will get you arrested. Shoot through your front door with a shotgun! Really. Frankenfienstien has many pictures of her with her finger on the trigger of a gun in front of a crowd of people. Bloomberg spends millions to make commercials that show horrible gun saftey practices from " life long hunters" so the people that know NOTHING about guns are smart enough to decide laws for me and know what works to stop gun violence? What a Jjoke these people are. Carrey being the biggest.

Typical Jim Carrey. Stick to acting, no one cares about your political beliefs. This sounds like something my 13 would write. It's really hard to take anyone seriously who references farts and colostomy bags while trying to make a political statement. Seems like he was drunk when he wrote that, but that's par for the course for him.

@hmmm – such bias!! First, when it comes to their acting career, apples and oranges. Carrey is a comedic actor, while Hestor is dramatic. Next, the words of the quote you used: Heston – "rose to fame as an actor"; Carrey – "starred in movies". And finally, they used Heston's two biggest movies, putting up two of Carrey's early "crazy" movies instead of his dramatic roles – Number 23, Batman Forever, The Truman Show. Sounds like they are trying to push their agenda, instead of being a neutral News agency.

    Sounds like a bias article.

Fox "news" has a strange format. When they interview a guest they spend 90% of the interview lecturing the guest about their right-wing politics. When the guest starts to say something they butt in and won't let him finish the sentence.
