(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.
The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"
Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.
"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.
"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.
Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.
Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.
A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.
So it would appear that freedom of speech and freedom of the press mean very little to Mr Carrey, unless of course it's his press or his speech. Kim Jong Un would support his message.
Heston's stint with the NRA was rightfully lampasted in Michael Moore's 'Bowling for Columbine' for his stunning insensitivity in arranging gun rights rallies in cities immediately after horrible shootings of innocent people, including children. Most people defend reasonable gun ownership laws but for some reason the radical right and conservative pundits seem incapble of any sort of decent empathy to the hundreds of thousands of victims of gun violence that plague the nation. Incidentally, Jim Carrey's "outrageous" statements pale in comparison the stock in trade of the pretend jjournalists at Fox News.
Carrey is an washed up moron who is just trying to create a liberal buzz (libs love good drama) to save a starving career. What a pathetic loser. MSNBC with the likes of Rachel MadCow and Ed "the wack job" Shultz aren't bullies??? The left is SOOOO hypocritical!!! Emotional, knee jerk morons.
All he is trying to do is get his name in the news. He hasn't had a good movie in years and he is just another has been movie flunkie. He couldn't wear Charleton Heston's jock strap. He has been married more times than he has made good movies and quite frankly, this put his name in the news. He knows nothing about gun's because as the president he is trying back, they know nothing about the military or doing anything good for their country. The one movie that was close to good was "Liar Liar", which seems appropriate for his article.
Carey is a high school dropout. That says it all.
Best laugh of the week...Jim Carrey has done it again.
For those who are still complaining that they lost the last two elections...may I remind them it was not the main-stream media. The actual main stream media is the ultra-right wing Fox News that wants to claim the worst president in modern history G. W. Bush as some type of symbol of greatness. YUCK!
Let us look at both Charlton Heston and Jim Carrey.....Carlton Heston won an Oscar for Ben Hur and he received a Razzie Award for "Planet of the Apes", Jim Carrey has won 4 Golden Globes one of them for "The Mask" ... Carlton Heston played rolls in b-rated camp classic movies one being "Planet of the Apes" and "Soylent Green" : Jim Carrey played the "Riddler" in "Batman Forever", and the Grinch In "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" both classics for which he received awards...he received a Razzie Award for."The Number 23". Currently Carrey is self-publishing a children's metaphysical book about a wave "How Roland Rolls" which means he is smart enough to know that by self-publishing he will receive 70% of the royalties as compared to the 12-15% standard if someone else publishes the book.
Carrey on the issue of the NRA is right....period...Heston on the issue of the NRA was wrong then and now.
Why doesn't Carrey attack Mrs. Lanza, mother of Adam Lanza (Newtown). If you must blame someone or something for the Newtown massacre, she is the sole causative factor. She is the one who gave her mentally ill son access to the firearms – even taught him how to use them. Guns and the firearm industry did not cause Newtown. Had those guns been locked up in a gun safe (As they should have been), Adam would never have had them to use in his rampage.
"Almost forgot, Jim Carrey dropped out of School when he was 16. Maybe he should have finished!"
You also Hannity dropped out of school, but he is a conservative Pundi while Jim Carrey is no liberal Pundit.
@ Progressive7
What about "the stock in trade of the pretend journalists" at MSNBC?
Heston's greatest roll was obviously Planet of the Apes! ... Ben Hur Indeed.
look at all these Jealous Conservatives. You all wish you could have Jim Careys life, because it's far better than yours.
I am indifferent on the video as I am on the speeches etc from the NRA and other pro-gun ownership factions. I am a gun owner and have no intention of giving up any of my weapons. I view a person's right to say what they want as just that...their right. We have a powerful tool in America....it's the remote or mouse.....if you don't like....click away. Heston probably would have thought that nonsense was funny.
Right on Jim!
Charlton Heston the person may well be deceased.
But the character he played( slightly demented, then severely demented champion of gun owners rights) lives on and as a public figure in the gun debate is an appropriate target for rebuttal.
"From my cold dead hands" was a haunting phrase and his memory is marred by it. If you're against unlimited gun purchase rights then you hate America . Was that it?
This was not a "nice-old-man minding his own business, leave him alone" situation.
He was a tool and was compensated for it.
He wasn't really Moses or Judah Ben-Hur either.
if a wheel comes of a car and kills a innocent by stander you can sue the manufacture ,the same with gun manufacture,s if a bullet comes out and kills a innocent by stander they should get sued to
Jim Carrey got exactly the result he was looking for, every gun totin' nut job is riled up from Florida to California. His quote made me laugh out loud. Nice job Jimbo!
"g"
Somehow, your logic escapes me.
Jim Carrey is a big "Sally"..........
The number one bully in all of media is Bill Maher – hardly a conservative.
FYI – the kid had mental problems and the mother gave him access to guns and ammo. Did that have anything to do with this tragedy?
Blah, blah, blah. Stick to acting Carey. The idea that Hollywood has some kind of grip on how the average American thinks is absurd. Many a goes, if not most are not educated and full of themselves... Not people we should be listening to by and large.
There is a time to be funny and a time not to be funny this jim carrey is not the time, and at least I get the truth when watching fox news. To make fun of someone who was a better person than jim carrey will ever be is disgusting,,I do not see him anymore making any great movies lately !.And to leave a legacy like his ,I do not think much of jim carrey anymore
carey deliberately put himself in the middle of a very heated fight, distastefully mocking a dead guy. If he can't take the response he is getting, then he should not have taken on the subject matter. I happen to remember MANY movies he has been in where he is crazy with guns... so how about the image HE as played as a role-model to kids?
"The Left hates ideas (which is fine!!!)...
... the Right, people"
-Moi
Problem with most left-wing folks is that they always want to justify their ideological point of view rather than listen/hear reason and logic.
