Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

I've always liked Jim Carrey and it's just a normal cycle of life that a career starts to wane/level off in any profession and Jim's career has clearly been following that course over the the last 10 years.

There's just this incredible sadness that occurs when a comedian, actor, performer on the down swing who has always been light hearted and funny, starts to vent harsh, mean, twisted and brutal humor towards people they have some frustration with regarding politics. All of the studies show that the most successful humor is always self deprecating, very "un-funny"/dark and twisted humor directed at people who are dead, old, vulnerable and etc., is always so destructive to those who use it.

Always without exception(Bill Maher, Al Franken, Michael Richards and etc.), that behavior leads to the person using that humor for frustrated political ravings, simply irrelevant. Charlton Heston has living relatives and Jim's skit had to hurt them, would Jim want people making fun of his dead father, FOR ANY REASON?

    Just so incredibly sad!

Mr. Carrey's a tool. never that great an actor (golden globes given by others of a similar ilk) and obviously doesn't have much on the ball re: gun rights, either.

He was funny at one time, but now he does nothing but stupid stunts to get attention. He made fun of the deceased Charlton Heston who was a great actor and humanitarian who marched for civil rights before it was fashionable by Hollywood. Just a cheap shot by a cheap has been.

The idea that even the smallest percentage of celebrities should be taken seriously would be laughable if it wasn't so scary. The fact that Jim Carrey decided to mock a person that does not have the ability to rebut is just sad. Let's make fun of dead guy and be praised for it... sickening... And shows a real lack of wanting to have an honest discussion.

Another person who made a fortune being funny, inappropriate, and acting stupid... now acting as a commentator on political discourse. Jim... loved your movies dude... but no one cares what you say off screen. Making movies does not give you any keen insight into the correct path for societal evolution. Now, if you want to sit down and shoot the breeze over a beer like a couple of guys... I'm there dude.

I didn't read this article, but I did watch this video a few days ago and I found it hilarious. Charlton Heston made his own bed.

I think Jim Carrey has overstepped his bounds. He had that TV sitcom about Cleveland a few years back that was funny but he really hasn't done anything since.

What's funnier than Jim Carrey on his anti-gun drivel? That there are still people in this country that believe it's only conservatives fighting gun control. As a life-long dem I assure you all that isn't the case. Continue to think the progressive approach on gun control is going someplace. In reality it is going no where. The EPIC failure of Senator Feinstein's bill in the Democratic controlled Senate proved that.

Jim Carrey puts out a video ridiculing gun owners and those against gun control. He makes fun of gun owners using insulting stereotypes. Then he has the nerve to say that HE is being bullied by Fox News. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Fox, but look in the mirror when you cry "bully" Jim! Nice job being a baby, bully and hypocrite all at the same time.

To the guy that says "Carey is a high school dropout. That says it all."

Maybe this will help you understand "Jim never finished high school because he worked full-time to help his family survive the severe economic hardship, and also helped care for his mother who battled a severe, chronic illness.[13]"

Well you can tell we have a bunch of repubs who's heads are in the sand...yet again. Is there no other way for you guys to communicate than to "bad mouth" someone for their opinion. Mr Carey's is a very funny comedian. He has won awards for his work and rightfully so. Yes, he may have not graduated from high school, but he has done brilliant for himself. Can any of you say the same? There are many journalists on both side of the fence that are well respected. They actually confirm the information including the source they are given, not once but usually twice or more. Unlike, FOX who only throws out junk and never do they confirm a source. They scream at you one day and the next it is as if it never happened. More like a reality news station then a serious one. Aren't you tired of being lied too? Or at the very least wouldn't you like to have trust in the person reporting the news (or so called news)? I would.
Next time any of you make a comment, please pull your head out of the sand, get your facts straight and stop bad mouthing someone with disagrees with you. There is a respectable way to disagree. Maybe you all should have listened to you Mom's when growing up.
