Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Couldn't agree more. Don't care for Carrey, but can not see a flaw in his perception. The so called (liberal media), never existed except in the minds of those wishing to create chaos within the political system. Stinking republicans.

II always enjoy reading how intolerant and hateful the left are when they describe people with different opinions. I have read the articles about Mr. Carey on FOX News and at no time did they treat him with the hate and disrespect that he displays. This is typical for people in the "progressive" party. It only strengthens the fact that the conservatives are the better group of people.

The people in need appreciate you giving away the vast majority of your fortune like a good Democrat. It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't just like to tell people what to do.

This guy is off his rocker and knows his career is coming to an end and just wants people to continue to talk about him.

Good on you Mr. Carrey. Someone's got to take on Faux News and denounce their belligerant tactics. You are a great Canuck!

People watch Fox News for affirmation of their beliefs they are unable to support with logic. They also seek validation of fearful conspiracies about ethnic groups, religions, and opposing political viewpoints. Delusion and dishonesty are okay on Fox – an alternative reality for neo-cons.

Now you know the NRA is a cult when they idolize the dead. Heston was a celebrity and public figure open to criticism and parodying.

IIt is intolerable that this low-quality Canadian comedian, best known for making faces, insults the great actor Charlton Heston. Heston's films will be watched long after this lightweight's name is forgotten. If the comedian dislikes our laws he is welcome to return to his own country, Canada. We will do just fine without this over-the-top face puller whose humor is appropriate for a demographic of six-year olds.

I don't know about you Jim, but I'd rather get my news from Kim Jung Un as opposed to the likes of Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, David Gregory, Brian Williams and all those other 'fair-minded' journalists you admire.

Keep talking Jim, you are simply digging the hole deeper. It takes a brave man to attack the dead.......but who would expect anything else from you.

Unfortunately for Jim Carrey, he is simply a comedian and actor, not a great political mind. While he is partially correct about Fox News in that they can be "bullies" at times, he is neglecting to mention the hypocrisy of the other side. They pull the same stuff, and use shame and guilt as their weapon.

Why didn't CNN say that Heston was a big civil rights advocate and unlike other Hollywood or politicians members, he was out marching in the civil rights movements starting in 1963. CNN just painted Heston as a right conservative nut when all they say is he became President of NRA.
