Obama likes the look of California's attorney general

(CNN) – The crowds are apparently getting better looking at President Barack Obama's California fundraisers.

Singling out the Golden State's Attorney General Kamala Harris at a Democratic National Committee event in Atherton, Obama noted, "She's brilliant and she's dedicated, she's tough… She also happens to be, by far, the best looking attorney general."

"It's true! C'mon," he continued, according to a pool report. Harris is considered a rising star within the Democratic Party.

Obama is in the Bay Area on a fundraising swing for fellow Democrats. He attended two events for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Wednesday night which raked in $3.25 million for the organization.

While no one argued with Obama about Harris' status as the "best looking attorney general" Thursday, a colleague back home might take issue: Vice President Joe Biden's son Beau is Delaware's attorney general, and his name means "beautiful" in French.

On social media, reaction was mixed - some though Obama's remarks were inappropriate, particularly for the commander-in-chief.

But others simply though Obama was offering a compliment - and the truth.

Was Obama being inappropriate in his remark? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Well, it was. Looks are not important here. If I was her, I'd be embarrassed. Especially since he's a married man. But, I have to say that Obama always says the wrong thing. It's like he's in high school, and not a full grown man with a mature sense of what is appropriate behavior in society.

I just don't know. Is it inappropriate to compliment someone's appearance and level of attractiveness at work when introducing them at a conference or meeting of sorts? I guess it depends on the setting and the event. It also depends on how friendly the two are with each other. If they know each other then who am I to judge?

Not surprised that only women seem to have an issue with this. A girl once told me...we don't dress up for the men, we dress up for other women. So true.

Usually the ones who is objecting to when a complement is being given, looks like CRAP! He said she was alot of things, why only the complement about her looks mattered? That is why there is WARS, people pay too much attention to stupid things, that has no bearing. If he was talking about droping a Bomb, it would make a difference, get a damn life.

Really guys...come on! The POTUS did highlight her strenghts and he also commented that she's beautiful. He's a guy...that could not help himself because she is very pretty. Was he out of line, maybe a little. He just said what he was thinking (what everybody was probably thinking) and kept it real. But will the world come to an end because of it, I don't think so!

He's the President of the United States of America. He can say whatever it is he feels like. He is currently serving his second term, so he doesn't need to worry about another election. So, whether or not you think it's appropriate or inappropriate is of very little importance. In this case, it was a simple compliment, so stop whining about nothing.

Him being the POTUS, a leader, a commander and chief has absolutely nothing to do with it...He made a comment and said that the AG was good looking....SO WHAT? after having to look at a bunch of old, half crippled dead all day every day...a beautiful sight doesn't hurt a thing. Now had he said anything beyong that then maybe we there's an issue. However if we pull the record of all the AG prior to her then maybe she is better looking. Its not a slight against her accomplishments, her educations, wit, ambition, or any of the like...It was a simple compliment....Even if you had record where this is like the 6th time he's said it then...ok....but something that simple to cause such an uproar is simply....STUPID and in my opinion small minded. No one said nothing when wacky Sarah Palin was admired for her looks, clothing, smile and style by McCain and the others that was pushing her empty agenda....

I'm democrat, black, female and southern. It was inappropriate! He may not of thought so, but it was not professional. I would not have appreciated it said of me in such a setting, especially by someone married. It has an ick factor, though he often has done this to his girls, TMI. Still admire him a great deal though.

This is utter stupidity...He made gave a compliment to a woman who is actually good looking or attractive...SO WHAT....after having to look at the same old, sobby, dead heads every day all day...I'm sure its a sight for sore eyes. It does not take away nor add to her ambition, education, accomplishments or credentials...she just so happens to not be hedious while having all that....No one said nothing and made no uproar when McCain and Repubs were gloating over the Wacky Sarah Palin with her nice shape, smile, clothing, glasses etc...McCain and others were literally drooling everytime she stepped up to the podium...Who opened their mouth to scold them for being inappropriate? Im waiting?

C'mon people. He said that she was brilliant, dedicated and tough BEFORE he commented on her looks. He knows that what comes out of her head is more important than the way she looks.

Was it offensive? I don't think so. But I also know, with every fiber of my being, that had George W. Bush made the same comment, the liberal blogosphere would be going crazy on him.

I can't believe we have gotten to this point in society. So he made a comment about her beauty, are you now saying that men can no longer complement a woman on how beautiful she is, come on we need to get a reality check. I am not a big fan of Obama, but even the President should be able to give out a compliment

So i'ma need folks to pipe down on potus, there is not a single thing wrong with his comments. it does not distract from her achievement and quite frankly is not even as important as you all are making it. it was a very nice compliment, that i am 200% sure she appreciated. Nothing like a beatiful, strong woman doing her thing in a male dominated society. At least, if anything it tells our young girls, that you can be beautiful and well accomplished too and the preseident will compliment you for all your blessings...GOSH, SALTY AND CRITICAL FOR NO REASON.

Oh good heavens – we women spend lots of hours and dollars just so we look a certain way, then when a man mentions that we've succeeded in our efforts he's criticized. Lighten up! It was clear the President admires Ms Harris for her brains and her professional achievements.
