RNC chair suggests Democrats support infanticide through Planned Parenthood

(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus linked the women's health provider Planned Parenthood to the killing of newborn children in an op-ed article published Wednesday on the conservative website RedState.com.

His article - under the headline "Media Covers up Democrat-Backed Planned Parenthood's Support for Infanticide" - blasted the media for not covering the recent testimony of a Planned Parenthood representative in Florida, who provided veiled responses to questions from state lawmakers on what should happen to a baby born after a botched abortion.

"That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider," the Planned Parenthood representative, Alisa LaPolt Snow, said during her testimony. Priebus does include a section of the back-and-forth where Snow acknowledges "[t]hat's a very good question. I really don't know how to answer that."

"Not once in her testimony did the Planned Parenthood representative say the newborn baby has a right to life," Priebus wrote in his opinion piece. "Not once did she say anyone has a duty to care for the child. Whether the living, breathing child survives is up to the adults in the room because, as we now know, Planned Parenthood doesn't believe the baby has rights."

In a statement, Planned Parenthood wrote the lawmakers in Florida were inquiring about a "vague set of extremely unlikely and highly unusual medical circumstances."

"Medical guidelines and ethics already compel physicians facing life-threatening circumstances to respond, and Planned Parenthood physicians provide high-quality medical care and adhere to the most rigorous professional standards, including providing emergency care," the group wrote. "In the extremely unlikely event that the scenario presented by the panel of legislators should happen, of course Planned Parenthood would provide appropriate care to both the woman and the infant."

Long the focus of Republican ire, federal funding for Planned Parenthood arose during the 2012 presidential election when GOP nominee Mitt Romney vowed to "get rid" of the organization during an interview with a local television reporter in St. Louis.

That remark prompted an angry response from Democrats, who claimed Romney was aiming to eliminate an important source of women's health care – including mammograms and cervical cancer screenings.

In his article, Priebus recalled the Planned Parenthood barbs from last year's race, and said Democrats – including President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz - should be held accountable for their support of the organization.

"In the last election, Republicans were repeatedly asked about whether they supported cutting funding to Planned Parenthood. It's time Democrats are asked whether they still support funding an organization that refuses to care for a newborn," he wrote.

These ridiculous comments by RNC chairman Priebus exposes the lack of credibility to rebrand the party. The Republican Party leadershiip is still pandering to extreme social conservatives. Expect their presidential candidates to do the same in 2016.

I was unaware that a child struggling to survive on a table after a botched abortion had any politcal affiliation. What is clear is that the Democrat Party and their far left supporters would let that poor defenseless baby die on the table rather try to provide it aid as is required by law. I simply do not understand how any human being could possibly let such a thng happen. But these same people would scream in outrage at an animal being abused. What is wrong with people today? Has life become THAT cheap and disposable in our "advanced progressive society"?

Democrats supporting infanticide, eh, Priebus? Good luck promoting THAT agenda nationally. (Yeah, I know ... it's all for show and donations.)

I wonder though. Is the damage to the GOP rebranding effort worth more - or less - than the actual dollars such foolish talk will bring in?

Isn't it ironic that the lefties were the ones shouting "Baby Killer!" at our troops returning from Viet Nam? And now we find out who the REAL baby killers are. The lefties and their abortion on demand birth control.

Really now. I believe that the GOp is promoting rascim big time, but they keep deying it. Pot meet kettle. Priebus and the rest of the Gop/TP party needs to stay out of peoples bedrooms. If they do not want an abortion that is your coice, but quit spreading lies and hatred to win votes. The rest of America is on to their game. 2014 can't get here fast enough to vote these clowns out. I don't care who you are or where you live, we must vote to get America back on track and the only way it is going to happen is to vote out the houe tea partiers who are talking crazy. I hope they do build a colony on the moon, just so long as they disappear period. They don't even read the legislation, just doing what the lobbyist tell them to do and say. Such hypocrits. Sarah Palin has really dumbed down America and it is a shame.

I might have some respect for "Pro-Life" Republicans if they actually supported programs that could help decrease the number of abortions (e.g., availability of birth control, more resources for families). As someone who is pro-choice I have always found that incredibly frustrating. Helping to create situations where fewer women feel they need to consider abortion as an option could be common ground for both pro-choice and pro-life sides of this debate. Instead it seems that many Republicans just serve up rhetoric and more abortion restrictions, which just create different issues rather than solving anything.

@Donna – What Randy is saying is that only the extreme right wing would believe that ANYONE is supporting infanticide. In other words, the RNC is pandering to the baseless fears of the GOP base. The only people trying to claim that such a disgusting thing has a political affiliation is the RNC. So, maybe you should read the article and use some of those critical thinking skills that seem to have left the republican party floundering.....

Wow. Now we are taking the What If game to special new heights. Taking the game of far-fetched scenarios and thinking it will fly as legitimate poltical argument. And claiming you "get" it now, your party "understands" what they did wrong recently. Even moree unfortunately for you any real position you had for a discussion on abortion has been blasted by your dumb choice of how to purse your point.

Gotta hand it to the Republicans, though. They're really concerned about improving the economy. They're addicted to socail issues like it's crack cocaine. Who cares about jobs when there's more abortion clinics to put out of business?

Well, if all of these pro-birthers would take care of all the children that come about based on no woman having an abortion, then I am fine with no abortions. To call it infanticide is going way to far.

It's amusing to see the power brokers continue to manipulate social radicals with hot-button issues. Most of you have absolutely nothing in common with that top 1% but they must have your votes to retain power. You dance like a monkey on a chain over issues they care nothing about and cost them absolutely nothing. Gays, guns and god. The billionaire's tools to hold their GOP Puppet Show.

Wow...[R]s are the gift that just keeps on giving! This is just Priebus putting out more red meat for his dwindling rightwing base....even as he alienates more and more Americans. It seems that the [R]s just can't gracefully exit their clown car. [D]s couldn't spend their own campaign money any better than this stuff they are getting for absolutely FREE from the [R]s! And this is just further evidence for the fact that the average IQ of the remaining [R]s must be at least a good 30 points below the [D] average.

  18. Romney is Still NOT My Hero

This rat-faced little boy is trying to paint a picture of some nurse ratchet type going around killing babies. He fails to see the need for PPH and its other services (sex education, contraceptives, FAMILY planning, cervical cancer screenings, etc). Plus, women want these services. NO ONE is making them do anything against their will.

    ---

Well when the paid spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood could not bring herself to state that the child should be rendered medical aid to survive, it was pretty clear what the desired outcome was for this newly born US citizen. Death. That is infanticide and there is a doctor in Philadelphia on trial right now for doing the same thing and worse, actually killing them. So please don't act like this is not happening because it is, all under the guise of "planned parenthood".

This perpetual myth that the GOP "cares" about life is such bull hockey. Sure, they want to know what you do in your bedroom, and if a pregnancy results- that's tough. Despite Roe v. Wade making abortion safe and legal, the GOP is determined to not only make women bear those children (regardless of the means by which they became pregnant, or what it costs the women in regards to their health or their life).
Really a bizarre stance for the party of "little government".

    But this whole "life" thing:
    1. The GOP overwhelming supports the death penalty
    2. They have the stains of the two most recent misguided wars on their hands
    3. The openinly advocte for the end of Social Security and Medicare that would radically affect the quality of life for the poor, the sick and the elderly-IF NOT result in many un-neccessary deaths
    4. They are against the ACA and any form of universal or pre-emptive health care- with obvious results
    5. They are against education, kindergarten, school lunch programs
    6. They are against Childhood immunizations
    7. They are against Pre-natal and infant care

In other words, the GOP is "pro-life" until you are born. If you aren't instantly rich- then they work their hardest to make sure your life is not easy, or in fact can be ended economically.

    These peope are mentally disturbed!

Murder via abortion should not be the solution to your social and sexual irresponsibility regardless of political affiliation. Obviously there are cases of rape, incest etc which should not be included but all others should be banned.

Life is not bringing a child to earth and feed it grass and water. Your party and yourself are always screaming about food stamps, those who get help from the government you call them names of every kind, without forgetting your favorable saying: 47%. Where is your stand? and what do you stand for?

    O'drama ya Mama
babies dont have rights. children dont have rights. as a matter of fact you dont really have rights until your 18. If a child had rights they wouldnt need permission slips from their parents. Up until your 18 every decision of your life is made by your parents. why should this be any different?
    ---–

Can you point to that age qualifier in the US Constitution? Lefties love to misinterpret the Constitution to create rights where none exist while at the same time denying the most basic of human rights to our most defensless citizens.
