RNC chair suggests Democrats support infanticide through Planned Parenthood

(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus linked the women's health provider Planned Parenthood to the killing of newborn children in an op-ed article published Wednesday on the conservative website RedState.com.

His article - under the headline "Media Covers up Democrat-Backed Planned Parenthood's Support for Infanticide" - blasted the media for not covering the recent testimony of a Planned Parenthood representative in Florida, who provided veiled responses to questions from state lawmakers on what should happen to a baby born after a botched abortion.

"That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider," the Planned Parenthood representative, Alisa LaPolt Snow, said during her testimony. Priebus does include a section of the back-and-forth where Snow acknowledges "[t]hat's a very good question. I really don't know how to answer that."

"Not once in her testimony did the Planned Parenthood representative say the newborn baby has a right to life," Priebus wrote in his opinion piece. "Not once did she say anyone has a duty to care for the child. Whether the living, breathing child survives is up to the adults in the room because, as we now know, Planned Parenthood doesn't believe the baby has rights."

In a statement, Planned Parenthood wrote the lawmakers in Florida were inquiring about a "vague set of extremely unlikely and highly unusual medical circumstances."

"Medical guidelines and ethics already compel physicians facing life-threatening circumstances to respond, and Planned Parenthood physicians provide high-quality medical care and adhere to the most rigorous professional standards, including providing emergency care," the group wrote. "In the extremely unlikely event that the scenario presented by the panel of legislators should happen, of course Planned Parenthood would provide appropriate care to both the woman and the infant."

Long the focus of Republican ire, federal funding for Planned Parenthood arose during the 2012 presidential election when GOP nominee Mitt Romney vowed to "get rid" of the organization during an interview with a local television reporter in St. Louis.

That remark prompted an angry response from Democrats, who claimed Romney was aiming to eliminate an important source of women's health care – including mammograms and cervical cancer screenings.

In his article, Priebus recalled the Planned Parenthood barbs from last year's race, and said Democrats – including President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz - should be held accountable for their support of the organization.

"In the last election, Republicans were repeatedly asked about whether they supported cutting funding to Planned Parenthood. It's time Democrats are asked whether they still support funding an organization that refuses to care for a newborn," he wrote.

v_mag, sperm is alive but it cannot grow into a human being on its own, therefore, killing it does not kill a living and growing human being.

Hey, Reince, call the NRA. Pretty soon they'll want to have the doctors and nurses carrying guns under their gowns. Then they can just shoot the kid.

This isn't even about abortion. This is about a report where the Repub Chair tells everyone what someone means by what they DIDN't say. In his eyes I can answer the question that "the dog is green" which really means I hate everyone and will attempt to blow up the world.

The Republicans, have not gotten over they lost, You spent a lot of money to try and buy thi electon, but we the people did not fall for that. We did what we wanted to do at the ballot box, so get over it. It is a shame, that any person in America is hungry especially a child. and Republicans want to refuse food to a child. The way I feel about aborition, it has gone on since time began, but this is between a woman and her doctor.God forgives all things. What the republicans want is for woman to be kept at home, barefoot and pregnant. They refuse funding for Planned Parent hood which is a shame. Of course you have lying Ryant at the budget head, eric cantor the look alike for the wolf in little red riding hood, he wouldsteal from anyone that he could his hands on their money. We have to many good for nothings and these two are biggestliars and do nothing people. of course they are teaparty people. these people need a course budgets for stupid people.

Seriously....I wish the republicans worried as much about the welfare of children already born as they do about a fertilized egg.

I'd like some R to explain to me why he thinks a sperm is not alive. If it is alive, then life begins before conception, and he should be calling for laws against killing them. Arrest every teenaged boy in the country!
    -------–
Doesn't really deserve a response... but oh well...

I mean really????? Why stop there? According to your very warped logic, isn't a skin cell alive? Should dentists be sentenced for murder every time they extract a tooth? Do you know how fully obtuse you sound by making such a statement? Here's the deal, "v_mag"... a sperm cell is not a human being. Most sane people know that. Now if you don't believe life begins at conception, that's you're perogative. But I will guarantee you this – EVERY human life on this planet began at conception. Argue that, mmmmmkay?

After reading the article and the posts, I am completely baffled about what has happened to our education system. The blatant mis-information on both sides is mind numbing. Planned Parenthood does MORE than abortions. For many women and their children it is the only source of medical care they can receive. And this was before Obamacare went into effect for the person who is going to insist that their lack of medical care is because of Obamacare. That is why you will find Planned Parenthood in economically depressed areas - to provide care for those who cannot afford it. As for claiming that the founder of Planned Parenthood was racist - a majority of Americans at that time were racist - that was then. Times have changed. Let's try something novel and move forward instead of pointing fingers. As for the allegations that the Democrates covered up infanticide perpetrated by Planned Parenthood. I have learned NEVER EVER to believe a word coming out of ANY politicians mouth. I ALWAYS double check and very rarely have I found that they presented to whole truth. So before you buy his spiel hook, line and sinker - verify, verify, and verify once more.

I wonder if Alisa realizes that Dr. Gosnell is on trial right now for multiple counts of this very same "extremely unlikely" event. She doesn't know if a live born infant can be legally killed or not? Wow.

So Preibus, who is going to fund the care for the child if resources are not provided to Planned Parenthood? Either way something has to be funded, the abortion or the child care....again the RNC misses the point.

It is so amazing to me how far the right has gone. After all it was Goldwater's wife who found Planned Parenthood... and Reagan signed the abortion bill into law. Priebus is just an idiot!! It's the Republicans who once a child has been born oppose any services to help them and their parents. First, they tell you NO! you can't have an abortion and then they tell you it's your responsibility to raise the child... But you say, I really couldn't afford the baby, but you didn't let me get an abortion... Well... too bad!!

I don't understand a large segment of Conservatives: they (pro-lifers) protect the innocent, who they no doubt believe would go to Heaven if/when killed; but they (gun-rights supporters) support capital punishment and the use of lethal, deadly force by citizens upon each other, even though that person might not be, as they say, saved.... most likely going to hell if/when killed.
