RNC chair suggests Democrats support infanticide through Planned Parenthood

(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus linked the women's health provider Planned Parenthood to the killing of newborn children in an op-ed article published Wednesday on the conservative website RedState.com.

His article – under the headline "Media Covers up Democrat-Backed Planned Parenthood's Support for Infanticide" - blasted the media for not covering the recent testimony of a Planned Parenthood representative in Florida, who provided veiled responses to questions from state lawmakers on what should happen to a baby born after a botched abortion.

"That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider," the Planned Parenthood representative, Alisa LaPolt Snow, said during her testimony. Priebus does include a section of the back-and-forth where Snow acknowledges "[t]hat's a very good question. I really don't know how to answer that."

"Not once in her testimony did the Planned Parenthood representative say the newborn baby has a right to life," Priebus wrote in his opinion piece. "Not once did she say anyone has a duty to care for the child. Whether the living, breathing child survives is up to the adults in the room because, as we now know, Planned Parenthood doesn't believe the baby has rights."

In a statement, Planned Parenthood wrote the lawmakers in Florida were inquiring about a "vague set of extremely unlikely and highly unusual medical circumstances."

"Medical guidelines and ethics already compel physicians facing life-threatening circumstances to respond, and Planned Parenthood physicians provide high-quality medical care and adhere to the most rigorous professional standards, including providing emergency care," the group wrote. "In the extremely unlikely event that the scenario presented by the panel of legislators should happen, of course Planned Parenthood would provide appropriate care to both the woman and the infant."

Long the focus of Republican ire, federal funding for Planned Parenthood arose during the 2012 presidential election when GOP nominee Mitt Romney vowed to "get rid" of the organization during an interview with a local television reporter in St. Louis.

That remark prompted an angry response from Democrats, who claimed Romney was aiming to eliminate an important source of women's health care – including mammograms and cervical cancer screenings.

In his article, Priebus recalled the Planned Parenthood barbs from last year's race, and said Democrats – including President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz - should be held accountable for their support of the organization.

"In the last election, Republicans were repeatedly asked about whether they supported cutting funding to Planned Parenthood. It's time Democrats are asked whether they still support funding an organization that refuses to care for a newborn," he wrote.

What a vile and corrupt nation! No rights until you're 18????? So, I guess those children killed at Sandy Hook didn't really matter? The only difference is that a crazy person killed them w/o the permission of their parents? If he would have had permission to kill them, then it would have been ok? What a wicked and evil nation this is.

this guy is a joke– :"yea not once did anyone say there was a duty to care for the baby"

REALITY CHECK_ who is going to care for the baby mr. republican? hmm... wouldnt that be socialism. You support cutting the GOV and destroying social support nets, and yet you have this dichotomy where you want the state to have a duty for this kid.

If you expect people to care for the babies they have, you have got to allow them to decide if they want to keep the baby or have an abortion. – I suggest mr. republican, you worry about yourself, and keep your misguided morals to you, and your family. don't impose your religious morals upon anyone beyond yourself, and we will get along fine.

How can it be called infanticide? A fetus is not an infant. The term infant is only applied after the birth process. I am neither pro abortion or pro "life". Abortion should be a means of last resort, preferably used only due to health risk to mother, rape or incest. I AM pro prevention! As a society we should do everything we can to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Quit sticking your head in the sand believing that abstinance only is a plan that is actually going to work.

It will never be said that the democratic party stands for personal responsibility, accountability, principle, or faith.
And it can never be said the GOP as a party is pro-life.

HA...and people think the GOP is going to change. They won't win another election in my lifetime if they keep up stuff like this and might just vanish all together in a decade or so.

The GOP pretty much has the NRA, Anti Abortion nuts, the religious wingnuts and anybody with an IQ under 80 in the south. That's SOME base to have.

This leopard can't change its spots.

Even before the west coast election results came in, the GOP leaders were already talking about presenting a different face and message to voters to appeal to all the people that are repulsed by the relentless anger and hatred that flows from this party's rhetoric...but they just can't help themselves, can they? Implying that Planned Parenthood supports MURDER? Talk about throwing raw meat to your "base." And it's not as if this was some off-the-cuff statement in response to a question or something...it was a printed column!

This is all the GOP really knows how to do: condemn, denounce, and teach hatred. It's sad, isn't it?

Once a child can survive physical separation from the mother the child has a right to live. If the child can't survive without the umbilical cord and the womb, then the decision is the same as with someone who needs to be on a ventilator.

    Should we pull the plug?

Priebus is absolutely correct. The Democrats, with the full support of the far left media, attempt to mask the reality of their agenda through the use of misleading language. But they embrace many positions that are morally wrong and dangerous.

And of course none of the anti-abortion extremists and religious ranters will bother to note the fact about what Planned Parenthood actually says: "In the extremely unlikely event that the scenario presented by the panel of legislators should happen, of course Planned Parenthood would provide appropriate care to both the woman and the infant."

So as usual a top Republican tells a lie and then follows the patron saint of propagandists, Josef Goebbels: tell a big enough lie long enough and the herd will believe you.

Remember Romney's now famous 47% screed? That shows how much the GOP reveres life- half the nation could vanish as far as they are concerned (the only way they might ever win national elections).
What the hell does that display- hatred for alf of America?
    The GOP-sick AND twisted.

Here's another reason republicans are not trusted, or even liked. They never make a statement, that's not a blanket statement. They've never seen anything, they couldn't throw dirt at.

So, the chairman of the RNC actually believes that over half of Americans support infanticide. Just take a second to let that sink in. Can you imagine how stupid you'd have to be to believe that?

He is as dumb as his name. The GOP doesn't support a woman's right to have an abortion. They also don't believe in helping the needy and want to drastically reduce Medicaid and all forms of "welfare." So, who is going to pay for all the unwanted children that they would like to force women to have? They can't have it both ways.

Planned Parenthood is a wonderful organization that provides much needed health care to poor and rural communities. Therefore, by GOP logic it must be destroyed.

Chalk another one up for micro-intellect. How much much farther out there can the Republicn party get before they fall of the edge of the earth...? Sooner or later someone will come along to revive the viability of the conservative movement, who understands that it will be accomplished WITHOUT the continuing alienation of people of lesser means.

"I was unaware that a child struggling to survive on a table after a botched abortion had any politcal affiliation. What is clear is that the Democrat Party and their far left supporters would let that poor defenseless baby die on the table rather try to provide it aid as is required by law."

Where did you get that information from? Are you just parroting the RNC Chairman, who was misrepresenting the facts here? Did you not read the rest of the article? He quote mined one line out of context from one testimony, and Planned Parenthood clarified their stance later in a seperate statement.

This is why ya'll gonna keep losing elections. Make a bubble to protect yourself from the facts so you can keep believing that the baby killing communists are going to take your guns and put you in a FEMA camp. The republicans will keep exploiting you in your bubble for as long as they can by scaring you and lying to you. But lucky for us all too many Americans nowadays refuse to ignore facts and are immune to infantile tripe coming out of the Republican party, even if it's just 51% that's enough.
