(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus linked the women's health provider Planned Parenthood to the killing of newborn children in an op-ed article published Wednesday on the conservative website RedState.com.
His article - under the headline "Media Covers up Democrat-Backed Planned Parenthood's Support for Infanticide" - blasted the media for not covering the recent testimony of a Planned Parenthood representative in Florida, who provided veiled responses to questions from state lawmakers on what should happen to a baby born after a botched abortion.
"That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider," the Planned Parenthood representative, Alisa LaPolt Snow, said during her testimony. Priebus does include a section of the back-and-forth where Snow acknowledges "[t]hat's a very good question. I really don't know how to answer that."
"Not once in her testimony did the Planned Parenthood representative say the newborn baby has a right to life," Priebus wrote in his opinion piece. "Not once did she say anyone has a duty to care for the child. Whether the living, breathing child survives is up to the adults in the room because, as we now know, Planned Parenthood doesn't believe the baby has rights."
In a statement, Planned Parenthood wrote the lawmakers in Florida were inquiring about a "vague set of extremely unlikely and highly unusual medical circumstances."
"Medical guidelines and ethics already compel physicians facing life-threatening circumstances to respond, and Planned Parenthood physicians provide high-quality medical care and adhere to the most rigorous professional standards, including providing emergency care," the group wrote. "In the extremely unlikely event that the scenario presented by the panel of legislators should happen, of course Planned Parenthood would provide appropriate care to both the woman and the infant."
Long the focus of Republican ire, federal funding for Planned Parenthood arose during the 2012 presidential election when GOP nominee Mitt Romney vowed to "get rid" of the organization during an interview with a local television reporter in St. Louis.
That remark prompted an angry response from Democrats, who claimed Romney was aiming to eliminate an important source of women's health care – including mammograms and cervical cancer screenings.
In his article, Priebus recalled the Planned Parenthood barbs from last year's race, and said Democrats – including President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz - should be held accountable for their support of the organization.
"In the last election, Republicans were repeatedly asked about whether they supported cutting funding to Planned Parenthood. It's time Democrats are asked whether they still support funding an organization that refuses to care for a newborn," he wrote.
That reminds me; I need to rinse my prepuce.
'Infanticide? That really shows who is working at bringing our country together. '
yep, and not forgetting Romney's 47% comment.
but the repubs will keep telling you that Obama is being so divisive.
The name calling just points out the GOPs don't know the real issues of parenting and don't care. They only know how to throw money at it, without money for it or just ignore the issue. These is the politicians who say they have "family values"? When will they, the GOPs, start talking to people about how much money, time and emotions it takes to raise a child and if people need help doing it.
Liberals killing liberals. Can't get any better. Keep up the good work liberals, soon you will kill yourselves into extinction.
Wonder if I can pay to watch you fks kill each other off
Wow, that's pretty heavy stuff from someone who can't even construct a coherent sentence!
Failing to report on a story that is not all that interesting and of limited news value does not amount to a "media cover up." Did Fox News cover the story? Did the editors of the New York Times and Washington Post conspire to "bury" the story. This is typical of Republicans misuse of language.
If the baby is of the age for an abortion, what are the chances this baby is breathing? Are we supposed to sit on the egg and wait for it to hatch? I mean, really Rance what are your options here?
masturbation IS ABORTION
The man who ordered an autopsy of his party, and concluded that they had too many people making stupid comments that put women down.. and he comes up with this statement. You just can't fix stupid and he is stupid.
no gun no manhood....Period!!!!!....freaking cowards UGH, PHEW
I wish Planned Parenthood would go away – anyone who gives an organization who would support killing a child after a botched abortion is sicko

Hey Julie, then you take what is left and raise it as your own!
I would like all the GOPs who are so anti-abortion explain to me why God killed so many women in childbirth and so many babies and children before the age of 3 before modern medicine? Man is keeping more humans alive with medicine!!! Man is playing God all the time.
Liberals killing liberals. Can't get any better
Yeah, cause we all know that conservative women never have abortions.
If the baby is far enough along that it can actually take a breath in a botched abortion.
Then I'm sorry. The abortion itself is ALREADY attempted murder. Letting/making the infant die just turns it into actual murder.
I am pro choice to a point, but absolutely against abortions after the first trimester, and believe it should be outlawed. Late stage abortions are tantamount to murder. A live baby born during a botched "abortion" becomes the patient and should be allowed all protection under the law. Many of you posters here avoid this issue altogether, calling those who speak out against late stage abortions troglodytes. The true troglodytes here are those that would stab a living baby in the head with a sharp instrument.
TO: owenj > How can it be called infanticide? A fetus is not an infant. The term infant is only applied after the birth process."
Read the line "what should happen to a baby BORN after a botched abortion".
They ARE talking about infants. Therefore, infanticide is correct.
TO: the dude: this guy is a joke– :"yea not once did anyone say there was a duty to care for the baby" REALITY CHECK_ who is going to care for the baby mr. republican? hmm... wouldnt that be socialism.
hmm.... How about adoptive parents? Or maybe the REAL parents stepping up? After all DAD is a better label than KILLER, don't you think...??
Keep it up Republicans! Your stupidity continues to show! And you'll continue to lose elections!
Keep it up Republicans! Your utter stupidity is showing! Why oh why do you allow this guy to be your spokesperson? elections will be won by Democrats for years to come! You deserve to lose with this kind of mantra!
I consider myself a republican, but the GOP chairmen is an embarrassment to us all! This is why last time I voted for Gary Johnson! I watched in disgust what they did to Ron Paul's delegates at the convention. I will not support this guy at all. So until he is either fired or steps down never to return to the political arena I will not support anything the GOP does.
"EVERY human life on this planet began at conception"
Nope, sorry, but it began when the mommy's ovaries made the particular ova that got fertilized and when the daddy's testes made the babymissle that eventually won the hoohoo triathalon.
Why is this guy still RNC chair. If the GOP wants to change their party don't you think they would change the chair?
"There's only one reason a nice, christian girl like her goes to Planned Parenthood..."
"She's planting a pipe bomb?"
Clearly the GOP has left no stone unturned to find as many politically and fiscally constipated narrow-minded twits to spread their taliban-like vision of a woman's place in the national scheme of things – barefoot and pennyless surrounded by a large brood of offstpring to send off to the military recruiting offices as soon as they come of age.
This is more GOP nonsense. A PP rep was blindsided with a question about an obscure and unlikely event. She might have provided a better answer, but the answer she provided WAS accurate, if not complete. The decision is between the parent, who now has decision making responsibility for a living infant (and is bound by federal and state law) and the provider, who cannot treat a minor patient without permission (within the bounds of federal and state law). PP then added to the response – notice they really did not change the response – to address the issue raised by Mr. Priebus. Mr. Priebus then completely distorted the responses in a shameful attempt to appeal the the GOP base and potential donors. This is utter nonsense.
"55 million murders in 40 years for the convenience of a majority of women who want the ‘freedom’ to screw their brains out, at taxpayer expense, and suffer no consequences. Most commendable!"
Sounds like someone is jealous and hasn't gotten any in 40 years....
It will never be said that the democratic party stands for personal responsibility, accountability, principle, or faith.
Priming your party talking points for those much needed national votes, are you? Let us know how that works for the GOP come 2014. You all might just as well concede the 2016 presidential election now.
