Jobs report: Hiring slows severely in March

New York (CNNMoney) – Hiring slowed sharply in March, with the economy adding only 88,000 jobs, the lowest monthly gain since last June.

The unemployment rate slipped to 7.6%, according to a Labor Department report released Friday. But it's not good news: It's because nearly 500,000 people dropped out of the labor market.

Manufacture and infrastructure. Needs a focus. National progress not wars but Jobs to its citizens first.

The increased payroll taxes took effect on 1/1/2013 and January and February job numbers were great, yet sequestration takes place on 3/1/2013 and the March jobs report is the worst in 6 months.

Please, explain to the class, via that tortured logic found ONLY in the rarified air of the Fox bubble, how this poor jobs report for the month of March is due to payroll tax increases and NOT sequestration or perhaps, even the anticipation of the effects of sequestration?

This should be an amusing exercise.

These are very good news. Adding and at the same time subtracting you get = ZERO. Hiring and at the same the sequester taking place, you end up getting nothing BUT they managed to get jobs to some people. It is not so bad.

The reason for slow JOB growth is GREED of top management. Pay the people a livable wage. Then you will not have to have Section-8, food stamps, obomaphones, medical care from the government (local, state, or fed). Who is doing the thinking in Washington anyway. All lobbyest in Washington should be put in Jail of brivery!
The last time we had full enployment in this country was during SALVERY. Gods' word says, the only job man will have in the last Days is bruy of the DEAD!

I'm sure the glue sniffing Obama sheep will be defending Obama. We all know that if Bush was president now, he would be held accountable. Oh well, let's go ahead and blame Bush anyway. It's what we do.

We got hit by the one-two punch of the 2% increase in payroll taxes and the realization of businesses of the impacts of Obamacare. Don't even try to blame this on sequester cuts, government payrolls were only down very slightly.

Exactly. Financially troubled J.C. Penny cut the pay of its' CEO by a whopping 97%. Now he'll only make $1.5 million per year.

Sequester can have that kind of effect on the economy. This is yet another self inflicted wound inflicted on us by Congress.

This Job Report is the very first sign that the sequester has started to be in full swing. Wait for the next Report, it will be even worse than this time. I can't wait to hear from the Fox Well & Balanced in Lies News what they will say. They have been claiming that the President was planting fears about the sequester. You don't feel the relief of the pain until you swallow the painkiller which takes time to show its reaction.

Welcome to the GOP/Teatroll Sequester that they triggered in hopes of blaming it on Obama. Next up: House GOP/Teatrolls will try to reach a 40th time voting and failing to repeal the ACA and will enact symbolic legislation they know won't pass the Senate on some domestic social issue like gay marriage or abortion.

How many of those who "dropped out of the labor market" are baby boomers who reached retirement age and started collecting benefits? It's gonna continue happening for the next 16 – 20 years so get used to it.

Two unfunded wars with Halliburton-type corruption. A cut taxes & yet keep spending economy. No supervision on Wall Street. Over 150 filibusters from Republicans in the Senate. A House full of Tea Baggers who only vote about pledges and political theater. Boehner only fights to preserve tax loopholes and low taxes for the rich. Those things are America's problem – but a problem we'll fix in 2014 & 2016.

Accountable? Bush started the Iraq War with purposefully falsified intelligence data – cherry-picked from a ridiculous source. Over 4,500 Americans and countless others died in that War. Unlike Bush and Cheney those who died weren't draft-dodgers but served with honor. Bush should be in prison with "Uncle Dick". Accountable?
