On a call about guns, Biden reacts to Boston explosions

(CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden was on a conference call about legislation to combat gun violence Monday when he heard about the apparent bombings at the Boston Marathon.

"As I'm speaking here, they just turned on the television in my office and apparently there has been a bombing– I don't know any of the details of what caused it, who did it–I don't think it exists yet but our prayers are with those people in Boston who have suffered injuries," he said. "I don't know how many of them there are. I'm looking at it on television now."

Meanwhile, a White House official said the president has been notified of the explosions.

"His administration is in contact with state and local authorities. He directed his administration to provide whatever assistance is necessary in the investigation and response," the official said.

Wow – HORRIFYING NEWS !! My utmost heartfelt condolences go out to the victims of this tragedy and their families. In addition, my prayers go out to all of the victims that sustained injuries and all the great people of Boston, MA. I hope and pray this is not terrorist-related...

(Okay, okay, yes, I am a lifelong, diehard, NYY Fan, but this is hardly the time to be making any silly wise-crack remarks about NYY vs. Red Sox nation...{:o(

Can we wait until the debris clears and the story unfolds before this just becomes a political talking point? Who cares about the gun debate right now? Get a clue people.

"Biden talks before our President, golf course? Sadly this would have not happened if Holder-Obama had allowed the Agency to have its nice little chats with a comfy bench and bucket of nice cool water At Club Gitmo."

What a crappy, stupid statement. Biden talked before Obama because he was already on a call where the press was involved. It wasn't a prepared statement. At least he didn't keep reading a pop-up book. Meanwhile you don't know that this has ANYTHING to do with Gitmo.

Do you think Biden knows that there are strong government controls on bomb material. They don't work. It is time to jail criminals and stop taking guns away from the innocent. The people will need to defend themselves against the criminals Obama puts back on the street or fails to jail for gun violations. Put criminals in cages now!

    @true justice
Don't be silly. Biden did not make any official statement. As the article clearly states, he was on a conference call when he got word of the bombings and his words were spoken to the people on the call. To turn this into some stupid political rant is pitiful. The President will issue a statement when he has gathered the facts. The last thing we want is a rash, uninformed response from him.

Why don't they ban explosions? Make it illegal, for God's sake.

Every time someone in this country blows something up or kills someone, we plaster it all over TV and the Internet. Then it happens again and we wonder why people keep doing it.

Since Obama is not running for president at least this time we might find out why the explosions happened instead of the bogus reasons the Democrats came up with for benghazi.

Well since all of this stuff happening about N Korea and stuff, wouldn't be surprised that they are linked to this or terrorist attack. Prayers and thoughts go out to all who was involved!

To true_justice... just shut up. No one can say what, if any, kind of pre-emptive measure could have stopped this. At a time like this, you engage in Obama-bashing? You've provided a very good indication of the depravity of your kind.

You can read the mentality that has caused this violence posting here already in jokes and humor. No concept of anything but themselves and their distorted views. Nothing is as sad as this tragedy, but they come close.

Whew!......thank God those universal background checks, low blast radius restrictions, and 10 day waiting periods really paid off for the law abiding citizens that purchased these explosives to harm other law abiding citizens....Jesus Tap Dancing Christ!!...yet MORE proof that putting laws into effect that restrict and punish good people and are suppose to "protect us" from bad people, do absolutely NOTHING in actually protecting us from bad people. Laws or not...if a person wants to hurt others, they will find a way, no matter what explosive's laws, knife laws, or GUN LAWS are put into place.

I hope they do not start spouting the word "Terrorism" just to start a news frenzy. Good God...if so what a pathetic display...only a few injured, less than 4 seriously or dead? My commute home is going to be more dangerous than that. They are already going to drag this out for days....sigh!
