White House: Obama can't take position on Gosnell trial

(CNN) – President Barack Obama is "aware" of the Philadelphia doctor accused of murdering newborns and one woman, but can't take a position on it since the trial is ongoing, his press secretary said Monday.

The trial of Kermit Barron Gosnell has garnered renewed attention in the past week as some conservatives have protested the lack of coverage of the case in the mainstream media.

Gosnell has been charged with murder and other offenses related to illegal, late-term abortions. He's accused of causing the death of one of his female patients and killing seven viable babies in illegal abortions. The babies were born alive in the sixth, seventh and eighth months of pregnancy, but their spinal cords were allegedly severed with scissors.

Asked about the case Monday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said while Obama was "aware" of the case, "the president does not and cannot take a position on an ongoing trial."

"Certainly the things that you hear and read about this case are unsettling but I can't comment further on an ongoing legal proceeding," he continued.

Let him be presecuted to the fullest extent of the law: if he's guilty, I hope he fries. However, the righties should be asking themselves about why they were outraged about this, when there are equally gruesome crimes that don't benefit them politically go unreported in their media outlets?

This man is sick and should suffer the worst punishment possible. Death.

That said. I'm for a womans right to choose. No man should make these laws. I'm also a firm believer that if you wait too long, IMO, past 14 weeks, no termination should be performed. I do not support late term abortion. A matter of weeks makes a huge difference. I also don't understand how a woman can have an abortion after feeling it move, which typically happens around 20 weeks.

That's the problem. You see, there is no hard and fast period of time to "wait". Personally I believe life begins at conception. But even for those that don't, when does "viability" come? Is it different from person to person, as it is for so many other things?: Does a one-size-fit-all approach work?

Obama has taken a position on everything from women's contraceptives to the Boston police doing their job (remember the stupid beer summit?). He has stepped out of his proper role as president so many times, we can't even count them. Why is he stopping now?? Maybe because the acts described in this article will be mandated to be covered by Obamacare??

Well fair, we all have opinions. I don't believe that a tiny organism is a viable person, especially after my daughter delivered a 14.6 oz baby that COULDN'T make it outside the womb.

If anybody needs to understand why the right-wing is coinsistantly losing favor with Americans just read the posts from this person. You'll see childish, unfounded comments and sense a deep-seated hatred for anybody who isn't a fearful, white, evangelical Christian.

FACT: President Obama supported and voted for late term abortions when he was in the Ill State asembly. Most Dems support abortion at any time for whatever reason.
The main stream liberal Media did not report on this horror simply because it sheds lightt on the extreems of abortion in this country and therefore they decided we did not need to know.

@Fair is Fair: "Still voting present, I see."

President Obama is not involved in the case, nor does he have access to all the evidence in the trial. It's appropriate for him to not comment.

Too bad all you righties care about is bringing our President – and our country – down, instead of actually using your brains before you open your pie holes.
