Sanford accused of trespassing on ex-wife's property

(CNN) – Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who's now running as the Republican nominee in a special congressional election, has been ordered to appear in court two days after the May election over allegations that he trespassed at his ex-wife's home.

Jenny Sanford confirmed a report about court documents she filed claiming she saw her ex-husband leaving her Sullivan's Island home on Feb. 3, roughly three weeks after he announced his bid for Congress.

The Associated Press first reported the court documents.

"I understood [the documents] were to have remained part of the sealed divorce docs. This is a private matter and I have no further comment," she told CNN.

In the documents reported by the AP, Jenny caught Mark leaving her property out of a rear door, using his cell phone as a flash light.

A spokesman with Sanford's campaign declined to comment.

The couple were divorced in 2010 after the then-governor admitted he was carrying on an extramarital affair with a woman from Argentina. He finished out his term in 2011 and has since become engaged to the same woman.

Seeking political redemption, Sanford won the Republican primary this month in a race to fill the 1st District seat left vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Tim Scott to the Senate late last year.

It's the same district Sanford represented in Congress before becoming governor.

I'm sure the people in Boston really care about this NEWS(?) while we need to focus on finding the people that caused the horrific incident at the boston marathon...

So Sanford does not even obey the laws. Jerry, why do you blame others for making republicans look bad? They say and do it themselves.

South Carolina has chosen a man who accurately represent them to the world. I bet every third guy in SC has been caught sneaking out his ex-wife's back door.

"If Clinton got re-elected, so will Sanford."

Clinton was in his second term when the Lewinsky scandal happened. Nice Try!

Hey Jerry, If he disobeyed a court order to not go to his ex-wife's house and he did then he broke the law. It doesn't matter what the crime is, he did it. And I'm sure the GOP will try to cover this up before the election so you won't have to worry. The backward people of SC will still probably vote him in.

If he has his way, he'll once again be an elected conservative GOP bloviating moralist passing regressive laws to defend 'traditional values'.

Why is it you people slamming this poor man can't connect the dots: He was using his cell phone as a flashlight? No, he was using Apple Maps trying to find the Appalachian Trial. Or maybe Buenos Aires.

    @Jerry-
Keep in mind that CNN cannot make someone look bad. That comes from their own actions. I don't care what his political affiliation is. The fact remains that he cheated on his wife. Now she has filed a trespassing charge against him. He obviously cannot be trusted.

Hmm, interesting he can break laws and it is OK? He is a liar and a cheat...What makes the people of SC think he will not do this again to the State of SC. Please get real people. Once a liar and cheat, you will do it again. I do NOT trust this man and I am a South Carolina resident. I cannot believe this is still a "Good Ole Boy" state!!!

He gets elected as the best gop has to offer even though he defied his State Constitution by lying about being out of Country and then his religion by committing Adultery. Really? For the party that hides behind the Constitution and Bible, just another example of what a joke Republicans have become.

Brad...wasn't trying to do anything, just making a statement. If you reember, Monica wasn't his only excersion. Many others were way before that. I'm not voting for either one of the candidates. My vote will be a write in.

Boy, Mark Sanford doesn't respect any laws does he. Civil, marital or any. He is a typical republican politician. These guys like Newt and Rush just don't care.
