Biden ties Boston and Texas heartbreak to Newtown

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden spoke Saturday about the loss of life this week at the Boston Marathon and the West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion, passionately explaining that news of one loss "brings home immediately, vividly the moment you learned of your loss."

After noting the deaths in Massachusetts and Texas, Biden recalled the December massacre at the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school, saying those instances showed the "incredible resilience, heroism, commitment and love of the people who responded to these tragedies."

"Whether it was a fertilizer plant in West, Texas or those folks in Boston, those innocent, innocent children who were mangled by a senseless act of terror, along with the adults who lost their lives and limbs," such deaths are tragic, he said at a dinner held by the Michigan Democratic Party.

After Newtown, he said the country was gripped by "So much carnage, so much pain, so much uh – so much uh – asking of ourselves what's happened? What can we do about all of this?"

The killing there of 20 young students and six adults at the school led him to spearhead the Obama administration's gun control effort.

Biden also chastized the Republicans behind ballot access efforts last year.

"We're never going to yield to the will of the Republicans throughout this country who want to suppress ... the continued attempt to suppress the minority vote in this country, which is the single most un-American thing any party has done," he said. "It is un-American to suppress the vote.

"And by the way coming out of the civil rights movement, you want to make sure folks vote, try to tell them they can't vote," he continued. "Think of what it's become if you think the only way you can win is stop people from voting or making it harder."

If you have never felt the pain from losing a loved one or suffered the hurt from it, then how can you " walk a mile in my shoes" ?

One more thing Joe it ain't just Republicans that don't like additional rights taken away that our 2nd Amendment has in place, their are some common sense Democrats that see the light also. Give the libs and inch and soon they will want a mile. Check the history books to see what happens then. Registration leads to confiscation.

Am I reading this right..."The Minority Vote"? LOL So now the so called "90%" who want all these changes that they keep beating that percentage they claim represents Amererica (more like a ten block section in long island) as a whole somehow are the minority? The only thing Biden has "spearheaded" is the obvious socialist agenda of Obama and his flunkies. They just dont get it, its not about guns or violence being the "spirit" of the issue. Its an issue of the ideals of individualism and the frontier spirit of those who wish to have the freedoms the constitution provides vs. the ideals of his group, the liberal socialists who wish everyone to trade freedoms for compliance and obedience. If anything these tragedies represent that the world is what it is, brutal at times, the very basis of what nature itself being survivial and at times harsh and not this make believe Obama land in some sort of vacuum of cute little bunnies, rainbows and everyone has the same and are happier for it holding hands singing KumBaYa. The reality is, in the end you and your brother are your best keepers, not "big brother" and I, like "90%" of Americans arent buying what this idiot and his boss are selling, sorry I can take care of myself and don't need this governments swap of freedom for security..

Our leadership performed admirably in each of those three events. We'll see what the Fox News drones can fabricate to say something hateful. It will happen.

The endless Democrat BS story about suppressing the vote. Democrats want IDs for everything on the planet except to vote. You need an ID for everything in this country, why not to prove who you are when voting? The truth is that Democrats are scared stiff that when illegal voting is stopped, they will not be able to steal elections with their election fraud. Dead people voting, people voting numerous times in different towns, illegal aliens voting, etc. The Democrat Party is afraid of honest elections and is the party of fraud.

Is he trying to tell us the explosion at the fertilizer plant in Texas was an intentional act and not an accident? Because if not, I'm not sure why he's trying to tie it all back to Newtown...

ummmm whos vote is suppressed? Last I checked it was Democrats that illegally forced Republicans inspectors out of polling places in Ohio and Pennsylvania for hours as they let only Democrats come in and vote and had them voting up to 7 and 8 times each. That is voter suppression. That is how you throw an election. Just hope Democrats don't get mad when you fight fire with fire one day.

He is so full of it. Criminals will always get guns. If you want to go after someone, go after criminals, not law abiding citizens.

    Great job Joe,

Once again trying to politicize two events, Boston and Texas, in which there was no politics involved so you can pursue your own ideological aspirations. Why didn't you just stick to praising the good of the American people rather than adding politics to the statement. This is disgusting! How about let people at least mourn for few days before you sully their good names for your own motivations.

these repubs wont do anything to help the Americana people, all they're going to do is scream we're spending too much, and when some other terrorist thing happens they find every excuse to blame Obama. these folks have been standing on the sidelines throwing bombs at at this president for every negative stuff that happens in this country for the past 4 years, and when something is suggestrd to solve the problem, they vote no. how can the American people put up with this crap for so long. i understand the repub represent a few country folks living in huge areas, but what happens to the masses of people that lives in smaller areas like the suburb and urban places. this is where 70 percent of Americans lives. dont they have a say in what we want in our country.

I wonder if CNN will ask if Pres.Obama missed warning signs, as they did with former Pres.Bush after 9/11? Pres.Obama's FBI had no follow up interviews over the years with the brothers. Mr. Obama's stated policy was to tone down the rhetoric towards terrorists. Of course I dont believe Pres.Obama could have stopped these attacks on Boston, just like I dont belive Pres.Bush missed warning signs. My point is compare how our media treats Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama. We see why Bush's poll numbers are low compared to Obama's.

Joe B. is absolutely correct. The "traditional" America I grew up in was one where nobody with any SELF RESPECT would CHEAT to win be the game H-O-R-S-E, Monopoly, Trouble, or Mother-May-I. The "Beav" and "Wally" would never do that. "Marcia Brady" would never do that. Even Alex P. Keaton, would have had more integrity than that. Today`s Republican party has come to realize that their product [born in those Alex P. days] does not appeal to the majority of citizens and so they have to try to restrict those CITIZENS from voting to win. That is un-democratic, that is un-American behavior. And yet this is the patry always touting it`s patriotism and wrapping itself in the flag. What an utter embarrassment to themselves they`ve become.

Joe Biden seems to be obsessed with standing on the bodies of recently killed people so he can score political points.

A person who seems to enjoy acting like a ghoul is NOT presidential material.

In what nations are guns legal without a permit? Where is this pinnicle of freedom where guns aren't restricted, where criminals are intimidated, the government makes wise and just decisions in fear of a "well-regulated militia", and all the people live in peace and security? Of all the nations on earth – where is this mythical place? Why doesn't it exist?

On voter ID, here's the rub; for most of us, it's nothing; we have plenty of ID. But if you get out in the boondocks you find folks, often older, female, and minority, who have lived all their lives outside of cities. The state may say they will provide free ID's, but the nearest office can be three hours away by car, and obviously they don't have a driver's license. The red tape in these offices can be nightmarish, and people are often told to come back another day after something has been checked or confirmed. The ID may be free, but the effort required is a de facto poll tax, and it has the same purpose that poll taxes, tests, and grandfather clauses have always had, the suppression of the vote of the poor and minorities.

Now, if the state wants to put an ID facility in every place that has a ballot box, it may be reasonable. I don't know about your state, but Texas sure won't do it.

Democrat Party, the party of divisiveness, deceit and lies no matter what the topic. Obamacare was a prime example. The way they have used every tragedy and disaster to further their far left cause. Wake up America.

It's sad when it's easier to buy a gun than to get a voter-ID. Guns can be exchanged from a legal buyer to an illegal user with no background check, but voter IDs cannot.
