Obama to attend memorial for victims of fertilizer plant explosion

(CNN) - President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will go to Baylor University in Waco, Texas, on Thursday to attend a memorial service for the victims of last week's fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters Monday.

Obama, along with all the living former presidents, will be in Texas celebrating the opening of the George W. Bush Museum and Library in Dallas. He'll also attend a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee while in Texas.

About time. They didn't vote for him and he's pretty much been real quite. Boston, on the other hand, supported this guy so he was out in force with them.

    Great gesture by our POTUS.
The TX politicians that voted against any relief for Sandy should be ashamed right now since they have their hand out requesting federal aid....
Since cowboy Fonzie and his ilk wanted out of the US, they should pull themselves up by their bootstraps and not expect tax payers to help them in their time of need.
Sadly this is par for the course for the hypocrites known as the GOTP.

There is no way that you can compare the these two tragedies. Boston was an act of terror committed by disaffected individuals. One is an American citizen and the other was married to and a father of an American citizen. West was the result of lax Texas state regvlators who allowed a corporation to commit the criminally negligent act of storing 270 tons of ammonium nitrate when any quantity above 400 lbs is to be reported to DHS, which they did not do. The West tragedy could have been prevented if the rule of law had been followed and the POTUS would not have to comfort those first responders and others lost in this criminal act. By the way, the POTUS has mentioned this tragedy several times, selective hearing, huh. Try practicing the principles from the Sermon on the Mount as the POTUS does on a daily basis. Love those who hate you, it is a really liberating experience, we can rise above our own pettiness. God Bless.

Thanks, I will do just that.
As a Texan, who does not live near West, I am glad President Obama will attend the Memorial ceremony.
And, since you think people should speak for themselves, maybe you should allow the people of West to
decide if they "give a flip". They need all the help they can get, and this could be an opportunity for
    President Obama to help them.
BTW, we don't have to live near West, to support them.

People who ridicule President Obama for taking the time to honor the dead and wounded are simply showing how ignorant and hateful they really are. Thankfully, the right wing will die out and be replaced by more thoughtful, compassionate people.

Zerubbabel. Are you saying the bombing could not been prevented? You might want to check out a few of the stories out there. It could have been prevented if the criminals also known as our government had done their jobs.
