Poll: Pelosi least liked congressional leader

(CNN) – Republican candidates running for office sometimes use Nancy Pelosi's name like a curse word.

Perhaps they've seen polling that indicates the House Democratic leader is the best known but least liked congressional leader, as indicated by a new Gallup survey released Wednesday.

According to the poll, 48% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Pelosi, while 31% view her in a favorable light.

Former Gov. Mark Sanford, for example, plans to solo debate against Pelosi's positions Wednesday as he campaigns for a special congressional election in South Carolina, saying his opponent, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, has only agreed to one debate.

"Because my opponent is refusing joint appearances to answer questions about where she stands on the issues, all we can assume is that she is going to be a reliable vote for the Pelosi-Obama agenda, were she to be elected," Sanford said in a statement.

Colbert Busch's team responded, saying the Democratic candidate is "spending her time with real people who support her campaign."

Of the people surveyed for the poll, 79% have some knowledge of Pelosi, while 21% either have no opinion about the congresswoman from California or because they have never heard of her.

According to the poll, none of the other three congressional leaders have particularly strong marks. In fact, none of them top 31% in their favorable ratings, and all four have higher unfavorable ratings than favorable.

House Speaker John Boehner has an unfavorable rating of 41%, slightly below that of Pelosi, his predecessor. Thirty-one percent have a positive opinion about the Republican from Ohio. Twenty-eight percent have no opinion.

On the Senate side, just over a quarter of Americans–27%–have a favorable opinion of Majority Leader Harry Reid, while 38% view him unfavorably and 35% have no opinion. Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who's up for re-election next year, has a 26% favorable rating and a 34% unfavorable rating. Forty percent have no opinion on the lawmaker from Kentucky.

For the survey, Gallup interviewed 1,012 adults by telephone from April 11 through April 14. The sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Funny thing is that she's probably shocked that people don't like her or her absolutely looney positions. Poor Nancy... they had to take the poll so you could see what was in it, you know.

She is more unliked than John Boehner – somehow I find that suspicious. Even as a democrat, for the most part, I find all of Congress completely out of touch with us "troops in the field."

Oh CNN Political Unit & the rest of the MSM, why aren't you reporting on CISPA(Cyber Intelligence Sharing & Protection Act) being passed in Congress? Can we get some real journalism please? WE, THE PEOPLE will not be dumbed down with articles of polls and favorability ratings.

Boehner is jealous because she is a stronger leader than he. The rest just follow him in goose-step.

Dutch....just got caught up on CISPA. How could a bill like this pass the House? Allowing companies to share information, without consent, to the government?

She should be disliked! The nerve of a mere woman to push-back against the strong and manly leadership of the right-wing leaders in the Congress. Like all women, she should be grateful for the protection they provide – especially in the areas of women's reproductive rights, employment rights, and healthcare. They know what's good for the little ladies and since so many decisions are now based on science and math, we all know women shouldn't worry their pretty little heads on that stuff...

I do believe right-wingers are more likely to have strong dislikes and radical opinions about politicians and humanity in general – hate is a big part of their lives. This is especially true when so much of their political awareness comes from hate media like Fox News.

As long as the U.S. Constutition is corrupted and too many people want special benifits the Constutition was-is not supposed to provide. Polls like this mean nothing. It is time people started to understand it is they that need to provide their own welfare. The Constutition provides everything. The Liberal's want to expand the welfare state to the point that the Government provides everything as espoused by the likes of Pelosi. That was already tried in the Old Soviet Union. We have a nearly 17 Trillion dollar Federal debt. Are we past the point of no return?

According to Gallup, Romney had a 7-point lead over Obama. Gallup has as much credibility as Fox News. OK, that may be a little bit unfair. Gallup has a tiny bit more credibility than Fox News.

Nancy Pelosi.... "We have to pass the bill (Obamacare) before you can see what is in it."

Yes, this just epitomizes the Democrat Party. Trust us, we know what is best for you little children, now go away and let us do whatever we want, including running almost every aspect of your life, after of course, we destroy your healthcare system.

I am very surprised this imbecile is that high in the polls.

It isn't a real shock to me because those conservatives out there have been bashing her name for a good long time. That doesn't mean that she doesn't deserve any critizism but not all of it. I don't think the GOP leaders have done a better job.

    This from a conservative,

I don't think she cares. Really, the only poll that counts is from her own district and on election day! I don't like her either but that don't matter much!

democrats love to say the alternative is somalia, like there is nothing in between a massive controlling bureaucracy and total anarchy. they just love to lie and decieve people.

At least they haven't jammed through a 2400 page bill that destroys our healthcare system, WITHOUT READING IT. That Obamanation needs to be renamed the Obama-Pelosi-Reid-Healthcare-Disaster-Bill.

    Meanwhile...

Congressional Approval is at about 13.3%.
Dem Congressional approval is at about 33.3%.
Republican Congressional approval is at about 21.3%.

Dem favorabiliy is at about 41.6%.
Republican favoriability is at about 34.2%.
Congressional generic ballot gives Dems a lead of 4.5%.

All of you armchair statisticians trying to crow that this one little poll from one of the least accurate polling outfits about one lone individual somehow extrapolates to the big picture: silly.
