New York (CNNMoney) - Job growth was stronger than initially reported at the start of 2013, and U.S. employers continued to hire in April.

The economy added 165,000 jobs in April, according to a Labor Department report released Friday.

Even in the midst of sequestration, jobs are still being added. Congress needs to come to budget deal before the sequester has a bigger and more adverse effect on the economy. Private sector jobs are already being affected. Just imagine if their wasn't republican obstructionism how many jobs would be created.

I'm waiting for some comment involving the words lying, union toady, cooking the books, and then a cry to the heavens as to why Mitt Romney was not elected.....cue the idiots on stage right. These people would complain about the Savior's swimming skills if he walked on water to save them from drowning, then would have supplied the nails and the wood at the Crucifixion.

Just imagine if the GOP were willing to help the average Americans and work with the POTUS to negate the effects of the sequester. Instead, they work for the rich and as Sen. Toomey stated, they do not wish to be seen as helping the POTUS. The economic recovery would be well advanced, but the GOP desires the European style austerity, which has been an utter and complete failure with record unemployment, falling living standards and the rise of right wing facism as a result. They based their ideology off of the R&R thesis, which has been totally discredited for the piece of lying garbage it is. The wealth gap continues to increase which is exactly what the GOP P.I.M.P.S desire. What a sorry lot, they are going the way of the Whigs.

If your job dissappears the Nanny State will take care of you. And if you make below $250,000.00 your txes will not go up one thin dime. You may not have a job but your Taxes Will Not Go Up!! The National debt will go up but your taxes will not. You believe that don't you ??? Obama Care has no money to operate. Please. Send money.

Job growth the last 3 months:
Feb: 138,000/revised up by 50,000 jobs.
Mar: 332,000/revised up by 64,000 jobs
    Apr: 165,000 jobs
The last months of the GWB presidency and repub congress:
    800,000/month jobs lost.
That averages out to a net gain of a million jobs per month!!!
Dems to the rescue again. Not to mention the resurgence of the housing and stock market, winding down two 2 trillion dollar wars on the govt credit card, the PPACA, which will provide more middle class jobs because more people will have healthcare, the killing and decimation of Bin Laden and Al-Quaeda, and the rebirth of the American auto industry and their middle class jobs. Way to go President Obama and Democrats. That is the way to move this country forward despite the GOP's only policy, obstrubtionism.

Well, you believed that by cutting taxes and increasing defense spending the budget would be balanced, right? 3 decades of deregulation and no political will to enforce the remaining laws helped to produce the mess we are currently climbing out of. Who came up with those wonderful concepts? You guessed it, your sainted Ronnie Reagan and his cheerful disciples. Nobody wants a nanny state, only a decent chance at making a living where everything is not weighted against working people, and we can hopefully retire with dignity. Thanks to the nonsense the Right keeps pushing, that task is made infinitely harder.

@ Republicans: not here to help the middle class, just here to stir the crap
Your moniker has become another one of my favorites, right up there with "Blah, blah the wheel's off yoru trailer".
Although I must admit that I read it this way: Republicans: not here to help the middle class, just here to START SOME CRAP.
I'm finding myself more interested in the "names" that people use on this board than on the actual "stories" written for our consumption and to further divide us.
A great and safe weekend to one and all.

Congressional Republicans have one, and only one, goal. They must work to ensure that President Obama fails to pass anything that will help the U.S. economy. The only possible way to create jobs, find middle ground on the budget, and move the nation forward is to get rid of the Republican majority in 2014. They don't care about senior citizens. They don't care about women. They don't care about working class citizens. They care about, and ONLY care, about corporate donors and power. Understand this: Republican representatives have even blocked legislation that they support if the president supports it too. You cannot get much clearer than that. Voters, get off your duffs and go to the polls! Your vote will never count if you don't cast it.

The pathetic GOP can not stomach positive news. 2014 can not come soon enough.

Since the borrowing rate of interest is so low, I say that we can borrow some money to build/rebuild the bridges, roads, tunnels and ocmmunications networks. Without that, then things will become more of a problem making it harder to compete. If we also get money to county/community colleges to retrain workers to work on more advance manufacturing systems, then jobs will either stay here or come back.

The job situation is sooooooo dismal, with so many people who have simply given up looking, that the Dem socialists are grasping at anything that makes the situation look better than it really is.

The job situation in America will take years to recover. Literally. If it ever does.

"The drop in the jobless rate reflected a gain in employment, rather than people leaving the workforce. The workforce actually expanded, while the labor force participation rate – the share of working-age Americans who either have a job or are looking for one – held steady at a 34-year low of 63.3 percent."
