John King: Benghazi investigation both legitimate and partisan

Washington (CNN) - It was late in the day with the House oversight hearing on Benghazi winding down. On social media and elsewhere, there was conservative grumbling that Hillary Clinton was getting off relatively unscathed.

Then came conservative Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina's second round of questions.

After that Boston bombing Mr. King, I think you should hold your opinion to yourself. There are legitmate concerns about Benghazi, and most of them have already been addressed. This "smoking gun" that republicans are looking for is completely partisan, irresponsible and a smear on Congress. They're doing a witch hunt when all the details have already been provided. Shame on you Mr. Issa.

It is not a partisan investigation when the Democrats refuse to ask questions but instead go into their canned dishonest counter attack and defense of the Obama administrations incompetence. They simply don't care about the truth if the truth a Democrat. You can be sure if this happened while a Republican was in the White House the LSM would have it front page every day and thousands of reporters would be hounding Republicans relentlessly. Instead they are participating in the Obama administration cover up of this fiasco.

You headline the article with your main thesis: that the continued witchhunt is both partisan and "legitimate." Then you write an article that expounds solely on the partisan nature of it all, basically just collects GOP/Teatroll talking points in one spot and broadcasts them at everyone and yet, strangely (or should I say "predictably"?), you never get around to any analysis of your claim that it's "legitimate." Fail.

It is legitimate and clearly a cover up, to suggest otherwise by extolling "partisan" nonsense is ignorant of the facts.

Benghazi,Libya is the Very Wild West. Amb. Stevens was too far from Ft. Apache(Tripoli) for the Cavalry to come to his rescue when the Natives got restless.

The public knows political grandstanding when they see it. These clowns in the House are wasting taxpayer dollars and time when they could be accomplishing something useful and beneficial to the citizenry. This will be remembered in November of 2014 when American voters through out the players in this theater of the absurd.

    @Guest:

So, you have all the facts? You should tell the Republicans since they can't seem to figure out what happened.
Be careful though, the facts they have aren't good enough, because nothing has come up for them to
    impeach the President.
Did the "dam break" like Lindsay G. predicted? Guess not.

ISSA LIED. He said he had invited Pickering and Mullens and HE DID NOT.

Not only that, Issa has a criminal record in California a mile long. He probably rigged the election to get in office.

John King lost credibility what he reported about the recent marathon bombing. He is only good playing on screen during election results. He better takes vacation until the coming elections are due.

"So CNN carries the Obama administration water and STILL you complain??!!! "

How is (a) serving as the GOP's talking point bullhorn and (b) claiming their witchhunt is legitimate without providing any analysis to back it up...how are those things "carrying the Obama administration's water"? Now, add in that CNN has carefully avoided any mention of the fact that two of the biggest partisan hack attorneys in the country were the ones representing yesterday's witnesses and no doubt were the people who coached them in preparation for their testimony.

Fact is, gov't should be responsibly looking into what went wrong so we can make sure it doesn't occur again...or at least put in place some procedures and protocol that might make it less likely. THAT would be "legitimate." What's going on, however, is not responsible, is not objective, is a three-ring show-trial circus that's not designed to get answers, but rather to manufacture talking points and political attacks. That's not "legitimate" in any way, shape or form and even suggesting that it might be, in some unexplained way, gives credit to the GOP/Teatrolls that is not due.

Yeah, cuz that's exactly what happened all 12 times embassies were attacked while Dubya was in office and out of concern for all 60 victims' families. I remember those hearings and investigations well. And, just so we all know that there's no hypocrisy going on...just like they're doing right now, the GOPers were so incensed about the Bush administration's failures to protect our 'Murikan diplomats that they held 12 lengthy investigations with numerous hearings and loud, angry yelling about "cover ups" and the MSM gleefully reporting about all of it non-stop. Yep, you're right...if happened while a GOPer was POTUS, it would be a total lynching and the record of it happening so often in the past proves it.

Its partisan because the American people and even most of the GOP have moved on. I know it harsh but you learn from the mistakes and move on just like 9/11. Its been 8 months and I know the GOP would like to milk this for the next 3 years to try to pin this on Hillary so the may have chance in 2016 but come on now its getting old.

the republicans are so worried about a Clinton victory that they will milk this thing for ever even if the state department refutes the claims. Hicks is a repo and out to help his party. Just like the stupid repos looking for a cover up or conspiracy. Same old smoke screen they use each time and the base is stupid enough to fall for it.

I obviously have a much higher expectation of our politicians than most of you here. I suppose I could look the other way too? No, I cant really. I'm tired of being robbed of my paycheck and lied to on a recurring basis.

How many Congressional Hearings did the Dems. have & for how long after Reagan's order, against MILITARY advice, resulted in 231 Marines being slaughtered in Beirut in 1983 ?

I did watch the initial investigation when SOS Clinton was questioned. She DID ask how many of you read the full report even McCann and many others had NOT read the report. One thing I do know THE CIA reports to the president and his close staff only. I am an American citizen I believe to publish everything could put more ppl in danger. There are certain things only the CIA/security should know. If Izza wants more information, read the report ask specific questions instead of throwing out a false guessing statement hoping something will happen. This is not the first time this insecure man has tried to get some attention by trying to start a war within this country (house/Senate). If he really wanted to do something CONSTRUCTIVE write a bill to create jobs. What is wrong with so many of our representatives instead of offering solutions to our unemployment, immigration situation, etc. they come up with all this BS. What a bunch of babies, insecure, thoughtless, non creative shallow men. They make me sick. WOW

Congress has heard testimony from Clinton, Dempsey and Panetta. They have the report chaired by Pickering. This is nothing more than an Issa witch hunt. The whistleblowers gave nothing more than conjecture and opinion, no bombs, just duds. John King needs to report for the fair and balanced network with his sensationalizing of this exercise in utter futility. The true story here is Hilary 2016, that is really what this is about. How disrespectful to the families of the 4 individuals killed. If they truly were concerned the GOP would not have cut funding for the embassies and missions, congress controls the purse strings. Mr. King, please do an in depth inquiry, looking at all aspects of this tragic event, then properly assign blame.
