Extra IRS scrutiny on conservative applications shows 'corruption,' Palin says

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said the Internal Revenue Service's recent scrutiny of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status is a sign of "corruption at the heart of big government" in Washington.

"So many Americans knew this was happening, but many felt defenseless and even helpless against a government that seems to roll along without accountability or sense of obligation to the people it's supposed to serve. These Americans were mocked for being concerned about this, but now we see light shining on the truth, finally," she wrote in an online posting shortly after the IRS acknowledged it made "mistakes" in handling the applications of tea party groups.

Lois Lerner, director of tax exempt organizations for the IRS, said 75 applications were singled out between 2010 and 2012 for extended review because the words "tea party" and "patriot" were included in the groups' names. Those applications were part of approximately 300 which received additional scrutiny during that time.

"Americans should remember that this same corrupt IRS will be in charge of enforcing Obamacare," she wrote. "And this same inept and corrupt government will supposedly secure our now unsecured borders in advance of immigration reform and will implement a completely ethical and non-political IPAB panel to make life and death health care decisions for you and your family. Forgive me for not trusting these big government promises any more than I trust the White House's latest Benghazi spin or the IRS' fairness."

Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, further wrote, "I'm sure President Obama is grateful for all the help the IRS gave his reelection campaign, but, still, you have to wonder how the bureaucrats who tried to pull this off can sleep at night."

She called for "accountability and a full investigation" as well as a special committee to look into the Benghazi, Libya, attack last September.

If this airhead can find Benghazi on a map, I'll support her "special committee." The Tea Party is full of bigots and religious extremists who have been oppressing and even lynching people for generations. Go to a Tea Party meeting and ask the rank and file what should be done about gays or "illegals." It won't be long until concentration camps are mentioned. So..., the IRS (what does IRS stand for again Sarah?) just wanted to make sure all these extremists had all their t's crossed and i's dotted before granting them tax exempt status. They have named themselves after an anti-government, destructive, anti-tax act, so maybe someone wants to make sure these people aren't terrorists...

The words tea party and patriot bring images of groups trying to take "back" the government. Their comments, not mine. So why shouldn't they be scrutinized to make sure they are a legitimate group and not some wannabe militia "preparing" against the government...such as a Timothy McVeigh group?

suspect many will attack the messenger, "GO AHEAD SARAH" "NO ONE CARE WHAT YOU THINK" "YOU ARE AN IDIOT SARAH", yet when they do, none will actually talk to the issue at hand, what the IRS did and how it abused it power for what appear to be political gain. But then again that is the Obama way. No address the issue head on and what to solve, just attack, blame, distract and divide.

Oh, what hypocrites the left are!!!!! If this had been a left leaning group, it would be perfectly fine. Don't give your opinion, yours does not matter. Let's give mr bomber man the same rights as us. As a result, he shuts up. Let's give everyone health care, free phones, free housing, free food, subsidies, free everything!!! No one cares!!!! Free for everyone except those who work for it. Things are great in America. Stock markets up to its highest level ever!!!! Housing markets starting to come back. BUT, where are the jobs mr presdident???????? I know, let's spend money like we have it. We will just give the debt to the next person, then the next person!!!! Where does it end???? No one cares!!!! That is the problem. Just blame the next guy. That seems to work.

To make such a divisive figure as Palin the voice of outrage is the perfect way to marginalize the importance of this story. As Nixon's "enemies list" garnered special harassment from the IRS, so too, should all Americans be outraged that this has occurred again.

The Tea Party and Palin is the most disgusting thing that happened to the US in resent history.... The funniest think that one of the top directors of the IRS that knew what was going on... was Bush appointee.

If the IRS scrutiny was politically motivated, ask yourself, what party benefits more from the weakening of the group?

I guess Sarah was still in diapers when Tricky Dick was using the IRS to spy on his "enemies." Did he apologize? He resigned, but that was just so he wouldn't give those enemies the satisfaction of seeing him impeached.

" it abused it power for what appear to be political gain..." How was there a political gain here? I mean leftists groups were specifically targeted by the Bush era CIA for extra scrutiny but you won't hear a peep from Palin about this. You mentioned to Cheney that you didn't like his Iraq policies, you get a special visit from the CIA. As well, given that they were granted their tax exempt status I don't see the issue.

Go ahead GOP and keep making caricatures of real politicians like Palin as your spokesmen. It has worked really well for you so far. The best thing for the dems now is the Tea Party. People see them for what they really are, a fringe group of the GOP who couldn't debate themselves out of a paper bag much less the real issues facing the country.

Palin is the worst. The extremist gop should be targeted. The GOP put us in a ten year war over lies. Now we are trillions in debt because of it. Fight the GOP!

When LIBS go cross eyed about someone you know they feel threatened. Why fear Sarah Palin.? Because she calls it just like the way the right sees it. So get over it LIBS. We have a right to be paranoid.... I have this overwhelming urge to go oil my firearms.
