Extra IRS scrutiny on conservative applications shows 'corruption,' Palin says

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said the Internal Revenue Service's recent scrutiny of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status is a sign of "corruption at the heart of big government" in Washington.

"So many Americans knew this was happening, but many felt defenseless and even helpless against a government that seems to roll along without accountability or sense of obligation to the people it's supposed to serve. These Americans were mocked for being concerned about this, but now we see light shining on the truth, finally," she wrote in an online posting shortly after the IRS acknowledged it made "mistakes" in handling the applications of tea party groups.

Lois Lerner, director of tax exempt organizations for the IRS, said 75 applications were singled out between 2010 and 2012 for extended review because the words "tea party" and "patriot" were included in the groups' names. Those applications were part of approximately 300 which received additional scrutiny during that time.

"Americans should remember that this same corrupt IRS will be in charge of enforcing Obamacare," she wrote. "And this same inept and corrupt government will supposedly secure our now unsecured borders in advance of immigration reform and will implement a completely ethical and non-political IPAB panel to make life and death health care decisions for you and your family. Forgive me for not trusting these big government promises any more than I trust the White House's latest Benghazi spin or the IRS' fairness."

Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, further wrote, "I'm sure President Obama is grateful for all the help the IRS gave his reelection campaign, but, still, you have to wonder how the bureaucrats who tried to pull this off can sleep at night."

She called for "accountability and a full investigation" as well as a special committee to look into the Benghazi, Libya, attack last September.

The IRS is being smart for targeting OBVIOUS SOURCES OF CORRUPTION. You don't get more corrupt than conservative groups. They should be scrutinized for trying to rip off the government cause that's their ideology to begin with.

The IRS audited me penalized me and threatened me.. They said if I appeal they would be happy to go back to 1988 the last time I was audited.. What was written off was 100% legal and actually took less than half the deduction allowed.. The IRS is a joke. Oh and in 88' they found nothing still cost me over 20k in accountant fees. And to think part of obama's job growth was adding some 20,000 IRS auditors like a year or two ago.. What a joke. They go after and harass small legal companies while they make laws that make current illegal transactions and other actions legal for corporate giants then Obama has the audacity to say a small company is in the same class as a corporate giants with 10's of billions in capital all to make the less informed voter be on his side with the whole 1% BS. The gap in the 1% for capital earned is larger than the gap from the smallest earner overall to the smallest earner in that top 1%. Comparing a 250k a year earner to a 2 billion dollar a year earner is laughable. Either way in the end we all give way too much to this government to misspend!! Stop the democrats from taxing and stop the republicans from being stupid and making bone headed comments.

Oh my. The IRS is paying special attention to organizations that are against paying taxes. Wow just why would they do that? Perhaps that if the tax department did not investigate the motives of people against the tax laws the IRS would nor be doing their JOBS!

Enjoy your incompetent and useless government it provides a lot of entertainment and laughs for the rest of the world. Please keep it up! I love to laugh =)

Why is it that the toxic fumes that spew from the mouth of this worthless POS are still considered relevant? What low life would really go to see her speak. No I didn't read the story because I really don't believe anything she says is useful for any purpose. She is living proof that the rhythm method doesn't work. Oh by the way Sarah are those teleprompters beside your podium, do you not read your palms anymore?

Why would the IRS be interested in an investigation of a group which brings guns to rallies to hear people whine about paying taxes, carrying placards suggesting that the President should be killed and give speeches that the present Government should be overthrown because it does not represent their interests? Why investigate such "innocent" victims?

Sure, the IRS has its share of wrongdoing and corruption, but if it weren't the IRS as her point of "concern" as per big government, Palin would certainly find some other area in which to balk about, ahem, "Big Government." Then she goes on to create a fallacious slippery slope by saying this is the same government that will be in charge of Obamacare. Once again, unfounded scare tactics are on the loose. The IRS issue and Obamacare, as any thinking person realizes, are two different issues being administered by two SEPARATE areas of government. She's extrapolating things that simply aren't there. People, we need to join forces and get this complete waste of protoplasm/dimbulb out of the limelight. She should be a minimum of 100 yards away from the nearest public microphone....a restraining order of sorts.

I thought I heard an annoying noise; why does Sarah Palin still get in the news?
The various Tea Partys shouldn't be tax exempt. They are organizations through which billionaires try to buy elections and get tax deductions in the process.
The Tea Partys may love America, but they hate 90% of the population that disagree with them. I'd call them a hate group and take away their tax exempt status.

Certain governments have a history of persecuting those groups who expose or oppose their corruption or abuse of power. This move by the IRS directed at the Tea Party seem to indicate the government objects to their message of government restraint and integrity.

Corruption? The early tea party was heavily linked to groups that believed they had a constitutional protection to falsify taxes, groups the IRS has already had trouble with.

Profiling doesn't feel so great when it isn't being applied to your own people, does it?

Who cares what that lunkhead does or says? She voluntarily resigned from political office before her term was over. So why does she feel entitled to run her mouth. Her only goal is to amass as much money as quickly as possible.

Palin takes on corruption and the good-old-boys. Those that speak out against her are 1). Part of the corruption; or 2) Palin haters; or 3) Anti-thinkers; or 4) On the take from the government. Maybe all four.

It is not much of a scandal when the IRS admits it made a mistake. The mistake it made was only targeting the Tea Party groups trying to form illegal 501(c)(4) organizations and ignoring the other illegal organizations being formed by political operatives. None of these groups have social welfare and charity as their primary purpose. They are political groups and should be forced to pay their taxes.
