(CNN) - Mark Sanford knows first hand the experience of picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, and trying again.
Just like what Candice Glover–the newly minted "American Idol"–faced as she failed to make it far in the singing contest the first two times she auditioned.
She also happens to be from Sanford's home state of South Carolina.
In his first week back in Congress, Sanford congratulated Glover on the House floor and pointed to her resilience.
"I think that her story ultimately is inspirational because what she does is she teaches and reminds every one of us of the importance of this simple notion of trying, trying and trying yet again," he said.
Sanford made a major comeback of his own recently, winning a special election in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District after tarnishing his reputation with a controversy which included a 2009 extramarital affair. He was governor at the time finishing out his second term in 2011.
Trying to re-enter politics, he faced a tough battle in this spring's special election but ultimately pulled out a win against his Democratic opponent, Elizabeth Colbert Busch.
Read his full remarks about Glover below:
"I have the pleasure of rising today to congratulate Lowcountry native and St. Helena Island's own Candice Glover on winning the title of American Idol. She is the daughter of John and Carol Glover and Candice is a graduate of Beaufort High School and I think that her story ultimately is inspirational because what she does is she teaches and reminds every one of us of the importance of this simple notion of trying, trying and trying yet again – because it was in fact on her third attempt that she actually made it and it made all the difference. I was there for a hero's welcome just a couple weeks ago in Beaufort, South Carolina and I can only imagine the welcome she will now receive. She was then one of 3, she won this week. Her career is one that started at Oaks True Holiness Church back home at the age of 4 wherein she was singing literally to the lord. It was only the beginning and as South Carolina's new Congressman from the 1st Congressional District I speak for many who could not be more proud of Candice for indeed the way she reminds every one of us of the importance of trying, trying and trying yet again. Congratulations Candice."
Do you all realize that:
Every time the House gathers to vote against the ACA it costs approximately 1.3 Million taxpayer dollars.
They've done this 38 times now, so they've wasted approximately 49.5 million taxpayer dollars.
No wonder this country is going broke.
And they've been ordered by Heritage to do NO Legislation - just keep the investigations going until next year.
What a government !!
What a great role model he is for his sons.
What a joker this Eloper is!!!
Apparently, the boy's think more of their fathers money, position and perceived power than they do about their Mother? Shows the real republican mindset.
Mark Sanford is the final proof that Republicans have no moral underpinnings. They are more than happy to tell you how to live your life in a so-called moral fashion, but when one of them is caught not living their lives in that fashion, well, that's all right, he's just human, forgiveness is divine, blah blah blah. Mark Sanford is an adulterer, and Republicans elected him to office. If they have any sense of decency they will never again cast stones about somebody's morals. But that's not going to happen, because hypocrisy rules the day.
Sanford, if you ever have any trouble in congress, just ask David Vitter of Louisiana for advice.
Same could be said for all the trumped up crap, dished out by republicans trying to sneak into political office. But, it's this point where the American people, need to be a little more intelligent than they've been in the past. Like that's gonna happen.
Yes, because if at first you fail S a father and husband but succeed as an adulterer why not keep trying.
Sc people are brainless
I would hardly call the re-election of known/proven liar, thief and adulterer by a bigoted group of right wingers as "picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, and trying again.".
So much for the Party of family values... but then, it is SC.
Great, Sanford is a media darling now?
Guy went AWOL as a governor of a State. AWOL.
He is the luckest person in the USA to be living in South Carolina. They would vote for anybody. Morals mean little to them. Even an axe murder would have a good chance of being elected.
Well, I think that Mr. Sanford deserves second chances just as anyone else. But I wouldn't have chosen to elect him as my representative again. Surely, we can find someone with a better record.
Sanford made a mistake, but he is exactly what we need from an economic standpoint.
No morals, no conscious, no shame. That should be the GOP mantra. I never want to hear a right-winger use the term "party of family values" ever again.
Wonder if the boys consider what their Mother went through? I doubt if it's ever thought of. After all, we've been programmed to worship winners, regardless of how they won.
Sanfords election is an embarrasment to the entire country. Talk about stupidity becoming a virtue.
If you value a person who lies, cheats, and steals other people's hard earned money then Sanford is your hero. I personally wouldn't trust him to pick up my garbage, but I guess people in s Carolina don't have any actual values.
