Biden ribs boss for teleprompter use

(CNN) – He’s often chided by Republicans for his frequent use of a teleprompter during speeches, but on Tuesday President Barack Obama got some friendly teasing from his number two.

Vice President Joe Biden, speaking at a reception honoring Jewish American Heritage Month, asked for the teleprompters in place for his remarks to be taken down.

Immigration reform bill clears key Senate hurdle

Washington (CNN) - The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bipartisan "Gang of Eight" immigration reform bill on Tuesday, sending the measure to the Senate floor for further consideration and giving the bill's backers their first major legislative victory.

Members of the Democratic-controlled panel voted 13-5 in favor of the measure.

White House officials discussed IRS communications plans

Washington (CNN) - White House press secretary Jay Carney acknowledged Tuesday that senior Obama administration officials discussed when and how Lois Lerner, an IRS official, should roll out news that the tax agency had improperly targeted political groups.

At the White house briefing, Carney revealed that Deputy White House Chief of Staff Mark Childress twice discussed communications strategy with Treasury Department officials.

Obama against prosecuting journalists, White House says

(CNN) – Following revelations that the Obama administration has launched investigations into journalists from both the Associated Press and Fox News over national security leaks, the White House said Tuesday that President Obama does not believe journalists should be "prosecuted for doing their jobs."

"I can tell you that in our conversation yesterday, [President Obama] reiterated just how important he believes it is that reporters, that all of you and your colleagues, are able to do your jobs in a free and open way," said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney at Tuesday's press briefing.

LATEST FROM OKLAHOMA: Stephen Eddy, city manager for Moore, told CNN's Jake Tapper that “everyone has been found” who was believed missing because of the devastating twister. He also expressed optimism that his central Oklahoma town would rebound. “We've been through this before,” Eddy said. “We've come back stronger than before every time.” Twenty-four people have died as a result of Monday's storm, nine of whom were children, according to Amy Elliott of the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office.

DISASTER AID:Facing questions on his position about federal disaster aid Tuesday, Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma confirmed he would want to offset any relief money with cuts to other parts of the budget but quickly added now was not the time do be discussing such matters. – Dana Bash

IRS official to plead the Fifth at congressional hearing

(CNN) – The official in charge of an embattled Internal Revenue Service division will invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during a Wednesday appearance before a House oversight panel, a spokesman for the committee said.

Lois Lerner, who oversaw the IRS division handling requests for tax-exempt status, made her intentions known in a letter to the committee's chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa. Lerner was the first IRS official to publically admit that the tax agency was using extra scrutiny on conservative groups applying to become tax exempt.

GOP donor's $1 million tornado victim donation challenge

Washington (CNN) - Major conservative donor and multi-millionaire Foster Friess is planning to donate $1 million to help the victims of the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma and is challenging others to match that amount.

In an email to supporters Tuesday Friess announced his donation. He said he and his wife haven't decided exactly where the funds will go but hopes to have some answers in the next 48 hours.

Chelsea's Clinton's new gig

(CNN) – Chelsea Clinton has taken on yet another job, this time at a New York University institute designed for multifaith discussions and leadership training.

She's now listed as a co-chair and co-founder of NYU's Of Many Institute, which describes itself on its website as a "a groundbreaking academic and programmatic model for multifaith education at the university level."
