Washington (CNN) - A majority of Americans still oppose the nation's new health care measure, three years after it became law, according to a new survey.
But a CNN/ORC International poll released Monday also indicates that more than a quarter of those who oppose the law, known by many as Obamacare, say they don't support the measure because it doesn't go far enough.
According to the poll, 43% of the public says it supports the health care law, a figure that's mostly unchanged in CNN polling since the measure was passed in 2010 by a Congress then controlled by Democrats and signed into law by President Barack Obama. Fifty-four percent of those questioned say they oppose the law, also relatively unchanged since 2010.
The survey indicates that 35% oppose the health care law because it's too liberal, with 16% saying they oppose the measure because it isn't liberal enough.
The wide partisan divide over the law remains. Nearly three quarters of Democrats say they favor the Affordable Care Act. That number drops to 16% among Republicans.

"Not surprisingly, the Obama coalition is most supportive of Obamacare," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "A majority of younger Americans favor the new health care law; support among other age groups falls as low as 31% among senior citizens. Only a third of whites support the law, compared to six in 10 non-whites. Obamacare also wins majority support in urban areas and in the Northeast, the bluest region of the country."
The CNN poll was conducted May 17-18, right after the GOP-controlled House voted along party lines to repeal the entire law, the third time House Republicans have voted to overturn the measure over the past three years. As with the previous attempts, the bill is expected to die in the Democrat-controlled Senate.
The survey was conducted by ORC International, with 923 adults nationwide questioned by telephone. The poll's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

It needs to be like "Medicare for All". Except with means testing. Some folks making minimum wage just cannot afford as much as someone making $100 thousand or more per year. Do you think wealthy people are worth more than the poor? I've got news for you. Some of the most selfish, most hateful people in the world are the wealthy, and most poor people tend to be care-givers.
The problem is, in this country, only the bad poor people get press time. The majority that live really good lives are ignored and called names.
i support it if for no other reason IT keeps me alive.. i guess i am biased i like life.. and staying on top of the dirt as long as i can be usefull in this life.
"Only a third of whites support the law" – those are the worst racists, uneducated/homeschooled and mentally challenged, brainwashed by pastors and the GOP into believing things that go against their own interests.. those are hopeless cases which just need to die out..
I would have No self interest if i failed to support the healthcare act.. as id likely be dead within 4 weeks of ending healthcare. i am an ESRD patient. Odds are Cheney supports it too if he has to pay for his anti-rejection meds out of picket then even he would go broke in a few years.
This Health Care Law was long time over due. Shame it took this long to pass by black president. I opposes bribery, lobby. Hence I support with all my heart. We Leeds to straighten legal system too it is flawed. Watch crooky attorneys too that are unethical overcharge and greedy idiots. God bless, u USA.
If ObamaCare is so good, then how come the President is not leading by example and signing himself and his family for it?
The 46% who favor Obamacare can be divided into 1) insurance companies, 2) big companies who will save money by dumping insurance coverage for their employees, and 3) low-information voters.
your headline is very misleading – the 16% who 'oppose' the law because it doesn't go far enough should hardly be lumped with those who do not favor the health care plan at all!
Rather you can afford healthcare or not, this is just another hand-out that middle-class tax payers are forced to purchase and pay for. Since the government is in control of Obamacare, it will be totally mismanaged like Social Security.
Doesn't go far enough? That's the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard in my life. Just wait till the bills start coming due, then you will have 100% against it.
Too bad nobody cared last November...
Do not support Obama care....I will vote for anyone that will kill the Obama care..can"t wait till Obama out of office...he raised taxes on everyone rich or poor.
The initial bill was just what the country needed... Until we stop seeing drug and pharma commercials very day and night the costs will continue to bankrupt individuals and the nation alike..Repubs have now wasted something like 45 sessions in Congress trying to repeal this, so where is their plan, other than stock price and profits? Present something you DO like to get these costs down. My healthcare premium for me and family is now as much as my house note.
BHO is the worth thing that ever happened to this country !
Worst. President. Ever.
Thank you, CNN, for finally publishing the results of a poll that clearly demonstrates what we already knew......most folks are against Obamacare and want it repealed.....
So, what percentage of the 54% opposed to Obamacare already have adequate healthcare? If the survey didn't find out that bit of info, it's a meaningless survey.
Obamacare is simply us paying for those that wont, cant and dont want to pay. Include 13 million illegal aliens too. People will take plane fliights to come here for free care. Expect 30% hikes for your primiums.
healthcare is our new revolution, the industrial revolution is gone, because computer systems robots and cheap Chinese workers have taken over the assembly lines in America. healthcare will not be leaving our shores like most of our factories have since a decade now. this healthcare is hiring and helping folks, and still bringing down our massive debt, so why is the repubs trying to destroy it, they've tried 38 times to destroy it. yes i know many folks does not think the law went as far, but the law is not set in stone, it can be tweaked to perfection.
How can these polls be accurate when nobody knows what's all in it?? I believe the Dems that like it, profit from it.
Should have asked the 54% who oppose Health Care Reform specifically what they don't like and I would bet the farm 53% can't answer the question because most people do not know what the bill actually does.
Not at all do I support it!
Saying Obamacare is good because of the few good things it does is like saying the Iraq War was good because it got rid of Saddam Hussein. Obamacare puts less people shopping for healthcare and strengthens the insurance companies. Prices started going up much higher than inflation when Congress back in the 70s created the tax subsidies that pushed everyone into employer sponsored health insurance. Insurance systems aren't good price controlling systems. There are many better ways to have a health safety net for this country that would have also have a more positive impact on controlling price.
Same poll: 99 percent can't describe why they oppose it
That`s nice to see but has anyone considered how many of the 32% supporters would oppose health care reform if it did go far enough and say was similar to Universal Health, of some European or Canadian programs. I am sure you would round up enough to balance that quarter percent of the 58% percent who don`t support because it does not go far enough!
