How McCain's daughter found out her dad was in Syria

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain slipped into civil war-torn Syria Monday to meet with rebels battling Bashar al Assad's regime.

So how did his daughter Meghan learn about her father's visit?

On Twitter, of course.

Meanwhile, one of McCain's top allies on Capitol Hill, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, poked some fun at his friend.

Mouaz Moustafa, with the Washington-based Syrian Emergency Task Force that helped plan McCain's trip, said the Arizona Republican entered Syria through Turkey, and remained in the country for several hours.

While in Syria, McCain met with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. He spent about an hour meeting with Free Syrian Amry commanders from various parts of the country including Aleppo, Homs, and Idlib.

McCain is the leading voice in Congress for a greater U.S. role in ending Syria's civil war, which has been waged for more than two years. He has suggested establishing "safe zones" for Syria's rebels and taking out the regime's air assets, along with providing lethal weapons to Syria's opposition.

Meghan... Nobody that I know challenges your father's patriotism or courage
I challenge BOTH as well as his mental capacity.

Coming from a looser on welfare your opinion means nothing to smart and sucessful people!!! Go back to the welfare line and wait for your check!!!

Hard to take the man seriously, when he shot his presidential bid in the foot with his completely idiotic selection of Palin as his running mate. John, Vietnam ended 40 years ago. The US folded, with a republican the one that ended our involvement. Quit trying to prove republicans are tough. We already know many are just plain stupid and you have done nothing to prove me wrong.

So the republicans want increased border security, but their past candidate for President sneaks across borders. Oh... I get it! AMERICANS can sneak across ALL other countries borders (i.e. Seal Team 6 in Pakistan, McCain in Syria) but NO other countries can sneak into the USA! Thanks for clearing that up... for a minute I thought the Republicans were being hypocrites or something...

I suppose he figures he's 'TopGun' even after getting VIP treatment in North Vietnam while his comrades rotted. I'm thinking here that him & the United States are picking the wrong side – AGAIN ! ! !

I hope these freedom fighters/terrorists that McCain met with in Syria realize that McCain has no authority to authorize anything in the way of arms or anything else. I have yet to hear from anyone in our government saying that his trip was authorized by the State Department or anyone else. Still playing the loose canon...

Lighten up! I am a liberal but this girl is simply proud of her father. I dont agree with much that her father says or does but I am glad that she is proud of him. She should be...he is truly a hero and a good man. He is just wrong...not bad, not evil, just wrong. He deserves to be treated with respect and admiration...even if I do disagree with his views. Way to go Meghan! You are right!!!

McCain is a good man, courageous and honest. He still does good work; however, his judgement seems to be deteriorating as he ages. Its time for him to retire as an esteemed citizen and patriot before he embarrasses himself or the Senate any more.

Unlike the rest of you, I don't have an opinion about McCain or his daughter...

I question the wisdom of getting involved in yet another Muslim countries civil problems. They always seem to replace one regime with another that's just as bad.

    leave it alone.

So she finds out he's "secretly" in Syria, and her first brilliant move is to tell everyone on Twitter? Does she HAVE 2 brain cells to even rub together?

    Dear Libs,

Do you believe in equal rights for women? Do you believe all races should be treated as equals? Do you believe in religious freedom no matter how hokey the belief???? Or does that only apply to Americans? If so are you are bigoted against the rest of the world and believe that Syrian women and children are less of humans than we giving and accepting Americans are. This is what I don't understand about the Dems.... I would think black president and a former female secretary of state would be on the weak minority side in world struggles but they must believe as the rest of you do. That equal rights and freedom is only for campaigning for office..... Why is it that the Republicans go out and try to help the world only to be chastized by the groups that should support these actions the most?

Gotta love the posts from right-wingers calling Megan McCain a liberal. Comments like those are a real eye opener to those of us who know that moderate republicans are few and far between...a "dying breed."

Yes, Republicans – continue to cast out those moderates in favor of more right-wingers. But don't be surprised when the rest of us evolve and the term "republican" is a thing of the past.

John McCain is nothing more than a posturing, self consumed, bitter jerk. What he used to be and represent isn't relevant any more. Badass indeed. Sheesh.

This is why I rarely bother with "these people" my friend, but thanks just the same.
They conveniently forget their positions, they re-create facts, and they are generally uneducated, obtuse, and not familiar with reading comprehension.
Their card of choice is name calling and that is when they put their complete lack of education in full display.
    They crack me up.
Losers with no purpose other than to rant, hate, and shake their little internet fists on this site.
    God bless their little hearts.

I am seriously thinking of suing the US , British and French government. They harbour, fund and arm Islamist terrorists to kill their innocent compatriots back home without taking in consideration the opinion of majority of Muslims and when the terrorist hit London, New York or Paris every body blame Arabs and Muslim for hitting their countries. I think I have a very good case/
